L’eleganza dell’eros - The elegance of the eros

Despite sometimes almost excessively seri-ous, watchmaking, especially when topquality, has often ventured the “private”world of the Eros. Erotic watches, frequent-ly embellished by mechanisms, could al-ready be found in the past in pocket orportable models, as the spectacular “TheAlliance between Love and Wine” dated1810 and ascribed to Piguet & Capt, one ofthe watchmaking masters of that period;or “The Virtues of Perfect Governance”,dated the same epoch, attributed to theGenivan Isaac Daniel Piguet. From thenon, countless were the watches made withan erotic subject, created by expert arti-sans or famous manufacturers who in theCalvinist Switzerland not always used to

sign them. In any case, owing one of theabove creations has always been a distinc-tive mark, a more hilarious way to wear atyour own wrist not only a beautiful watch,but also your more or less hidden passions.Zannetti already managed to illustratesuch a delicate topic with great elegance inthe past, when more than 15 years ago hecreated the BrainOrgy, a model meant tobecome, between all, one of his best buy. Inthat case, little stylized figures representedthe erotic theme with their totality build-ing and resembling a brain. Once worn,the Brain Orgy used to loose any erot-ic evidence which could only be un-derstood with an accurate look ofthe dial.Today the Brain Orgy comesback in a new version with aMammuth Ivory hand-en-graved and painted dial, topresent itself even more exclu-sive and unique to the eyes ofthe lucky men who will wearit. The collection also broadenitself with the new Wheel Orgymodel where man’s two greatestpassions: cars, represented by astylised wheel engraved on the dial,with its rays (from the 30ies) and thebig central hub; and Eros, once againrepresented by infinite stylised figuresthat live and show the most unusualloving positions. orologi a tema erotico realizzati, frutto del-l’abilità di sapienti artigiani o di grandi pro-duttori, che nella svizzera calvinista nonsempre hanno firmato le loro opere. in ognicaso il loro possesso è sempre stato un segnodi distinzione, una maniera più divertenteche libertina per indossare al propriopolso non solamente un bell’orologio,ma anche la propria più o menonascosta passione. Zannetti aveva già dato prova diuna grande eleganza nell’affronta-re un tema così delicato, quandooltre quindici anni addietro realiz-zò la prima versione del Brainor-gy, modello destinato a diventare,in assoluto, uno dei suoi best-buydella casa romana. inconfondibili lepiccole figure stilizzate incise sul qua-drante, che rievocano il momento ero-tico costruendo, con la loro totalità, il di-segno di un cervello. oggi il Brain orgy torna in catalogo nella

2005 The first square watch: “palatino”,available in the Automatic and chronoversions. Another version of the “Re-peater” together with new dials andcase for the impero Line. First officialacknowledgements for Zannetti fromJapan, cina and Korea.

2006 With the automatic chronograph calledGladiator, the impero collection in-crease its dimensions and personality.The new chronograph version of theRegent Line, declined into different di-al’s subjects. Zannetti reaffirms his ownindependence supporting and defend-ing the made in italy.

2007A complete renewal of the Timeof Drivers co l l ect ion , avai l ab l eboth in steel and gold. Two arethe new models, both with specialenamelled indexes hand-applied:the chronograph with three coun-ters and a dial developed on threelevels and the “Racing edit ion”with two counters and a perlagedial. new cases and dials are cre-ated also for the Squelette , theAutomatic and the Steel impero.

2008 A modern self-winding GMT is re-leased: the Dual Time. Available in dif-ferent dials, both traditional andenameled ones. At the same time, anew working technique is discoveredby Zannetti: the bone engraving. Thefirst creation to exhibit such amazingfeature is the Full Sky, which is part ofthe Regent collection. A new RegentLady collection: with numerous differ-ent dials, such as those with gold em-bossed figures.

2009 The year opens with the presentationof the Rosa Ventorum, featuring aMammuth bone dial. Furthermore,Zannetti begins to experiment the pe-cVD treatment on his watches’ cases:the first model to display such a tech-nique is the ToD Racing edition “FullBlack” chronograph. hereinafter, i twillbe followed by many other models fea-tured this treatment, such as the stain-less steel and pink gold versions.

2010 yet again, the art form superbly blendswith Zannetti’s creations. new modelsare released featuring polychromechamplevé enamels entirely hand-made.Moreover, mother of pearl dials showextraordinary light effects.

2011 When high jewellery meets highwatchmaking: the result is the RegentDragon. A spectacular timepiece witha gold bass-relief placed on the dial.Furthermore, Zannetti presents astunning unique pendant named oneMillion Dollar Snake.

2012 The art of watchmaking once again playsa central role. At the Geneva exhibitionin January, Zannetti presents the newcollection Magnificum with hand- en-graved and enameled dials. Then, atBaselworld it is the time of the Gladiatorchrono with a steel or pink gold case andautomatic movement.

2013 it comes the year of the sportive watch,legitimated by the professional piranhaScuba with a water resistance of 50 at-mospheres. The dials are unique, ex-tremely original and hand-made withchamplevè enamels applied on motherof pearl and mammuth ivory.

1994 First participation to the Basel fair.

1995 A new important collection destinedto a long success: The “Frog collec-tion”. During the following years, thismodel is declined into different ver-sions, such as the “jewel case” (thatcloses itself above the dial) and em-bellished with precious diamonds, ru-bies and emeralds pave’.

1996 This is the year of the complications:new movements are presented andthe new prestigious Repeater (fiveminutes repetition) model is created.

1998 it is time for the renewal of the Romehead office with new important labora-tories and offices for the production.

1999 presentation of the Montgolfier collec-tion, prestigious GMT, characterisedby the unique gold chiselled rotor andthe dial in bas-relief and multi-coloured enamels.

2000 The Squelette: the first Zannetti skele-ton. Among the distinctive character-istic: the first skeleton movementtreated in blue pVD in the world.

2001 The new Time of Drivers collectionwith the first two models dedicated toAscari and Fangio.

2002 new Jewel Lines with precious stones.

2003 new steel collection: actual but totallysuitable to the Maison’s personality.

2004 The new Regent collection: with en-tirely hand-engraved dials. new Jewelversions of the Time of Drivers andFrog watch models.

1982 inizia la vita lavorativa di RiccardoZannetti, ideatore e fondatore dellaMaison. Vengono realizzati i primimodelli originali, veri e propri pezziunici.

1986 ideazione e produzione di orologi per al-cune grandi firme dell'orologeria con-temporanea. creazione di modelli esclu-sivi per importanti clienti privati.

1987 nasce la prima collezione di Zannetti:la Stradivarius, rimasta in produzionefino all’anno 2003.

1989 con la collezione impero si caratteriz-za fortemente lo stile Zannetti, ed ar-rivano i primi ordini an che dai paesieuropei. Viene intanto avviata una re-golare distribuzione in italia.

1990 primo show-room a Roma.

1992 L'orologio dedicato alle donne: il Daf-ne. Vengono anche realizzati orologigioiello e modelli personalizzati su ri-chiesta di alcuni clienti.

1994 prima presenza ufficiale al Salone inter-nazionale dell'orologeria di Basilea.

1995 una nuova importante collezione, de-stinata ad un duraturo successo: laFrog collection. negli anni successiviquesto modello verrà declinato in di-verse versioni, anche con chiusura ascrigno sopra al quadrante, e allestitocon preziosi e sofisticati pavè di rubi - ni, smeraldi, zaffiri o diamanti.

1996 e' questo l'anno della tecnica. Vengo-no infatti elaborati i primi movimenti,mentre in vendita arriva il prestigiosoRepeater, ripetizione a 5 minuti

1998 Si rinnova la sede di Roma, con im-portanti unità produttive e laboratori.

1999 Viene presentata La Mongolfier, pre-stigioso GMT caratterizzato dall'origi-nale rotore in oro cesellato e dal qua-drante a rilievo in smalti policromi.

2000 Arriva lo Squelette, primo scheletratodi Zannetti. Tra le caratteristiche di-stintive troviamo il primo movimentoscheletrato al mondo con trattamentopVD blu.

2001 nasce la collezione Time of Drivers,con i primi due cronografi dedicati adaltrettanti campioni del mondo delleauto: Ascari e Fangio.

2002 nuova linea di gioielli con pietre.

2003 nuova collezione in Acciaio, in lineacon le tendenze attuali ma perfetta-mente confacente con le caratteristi-che della Maison.

2004 nuova collezione Regent, con il qua-drante interamente inciso a mano.Versioni gioiello per il Time of Dri-vers e l'orologio Rana Scrigno.

2005 primo orologio di forma quadratadella Zannetti, il palatino, presentatonelle versioni solotempo e cronogra-fo. Ancora una nuova versione di Re-peater, mentre la collezione imperoospita nuovi quadranti e un'ingegne-rizzazione più attuale della cassa. pri-mi riconoscimenti ufficiali in cina,Giappone e corea.

2006 con il cronografo automatico Gladia-tore la collezione impero aumenta indimensioni ed aggressività. nuovaversione cronografo del Regent, condiversi tipi di quadrante. Zannettiriafferma la propria indipendenza e sibatte per il made in italy.

2007 Si rinnova completamente la collezione Ti-me of Drivers, realizzata sia in acciaio che

in oro. Due le versioni presentate, ambeduecon particolari indici applicati e smaltati:cronografo tre contatori, con quadrante sutre livelli; “Racing edition” con due contatorie quadrante “motoristico” lavorato a perla-ge. nuove casse e quadranti anche per loSquelette, l’Automatic e l’impero Steel.

2008 Viene presentato il Dual Time, moder-no GMT a carica automatica, disponi-bile con diversi quadranti, sia tradi-zionali che il smalto. parallelamenteuna nuova tecnica artigianale viene ri-scoperta dalla Zanneti: l’incisione sul-l’osso. il primo modello a giovarsene èil Full Sky della collezione Regent.nuova collezione Regent Lady, decli-nata con numerosi quadranti differen-ti, anche con figure in o ro a sbalzo.

2009 L’anno si apre con il Rosa Ventorumdella collezione Regent, con quadrantein avorio di mammuth. inizia la speri-mentazione per il trattamento pe-cVDdelle casse: il primo modello ad utiliz-zarlo è il cronografo ToD Racing edi-tion “Full Black” totalmente nero, neseguiranno diversi altri, anche in ver-sione acciaio e oro rosa.

2010 i mestieri d’arte incontrano nuovamente lecreazioni Zannetti. Vengono presentati imodelli con smalti policromi champlevérealizzati interamente a mano. come basetroviamo anche la madreperla, con effetti diluce straordinari.

2011 L’alta gioielleria incontra l’orologeria:il risultato è il Regent Dragon, modellospettacolare, con un bassorilievo inoro posto all’interno del quadrante.Viene anche realizzato un pendente dieccezionale bellezza, denominato oneMillion Dollar Snake.

2012 L’orologeria ritorna protagonista. AllaGeneva Time exhibition che si svolgein gennaio, Zannetti presenta la colle-zione Magnificum, con quadranti inci-si e poi smaltati. A Baselworld arriva-no poi i nuovi cronografi Galdiatore,con cassa in acciaio oopure in oro rosae movimento automatico.

2013 e’ l’anno dell’orologio sportivo, consa-crato dal subacqueo professionale pi-ranha, impermeabile fino a 500 metrie provvisto di valvola per l’elio. origi-nali e unici nel loro genere i quadranti,con smalto champlevé anche su ma-dreperla e in mammuth inciso e dipin-to a mano.

1986 ideation and production of watches forsome of the biggest and most famouscontemporary watch brands. creation ofthe first exclusive models for very im-portant private national clients.

1987 Birth of the first Zannetti collection“The Stradivarius” remained in pro-duction until 2003.

1989 The impero collection strongly de-fines Zannetti’s style, followed by thefirst orders from european countriesin addition to a regular distribution ofwatches in italy.

1990 opening of the first boutique in Rome.

1992 The Dafne: a watch dedicate towomen. Realisation on demand of thefirst personalized jewels and watchesfor special clients.

hiSToRy

De signing a watch is a difficult but fascinating challenge. The first aspect to be respected is its functionality

i.e. telling the time, and this must not differ in any way from the accepted manner. It would serve no purpose

to produce a fantastic creation which, on a practical level, does not fulfil its function. On the contrary, it is

preferable to favour simplicity and efficacy – guarantees of maximum appreciation on the part of the wear-


The Vitruvian Man is a Leonar-do da Vinci’s pencil and inkdrawing made on paper (34x24cm),dated around year 1490 and pre-served in the drawing and prints Of-fice of Venice Academy’s Galleries.This legendary illustration of the idealhuman body’s proportions shows howthe body can perfectly fit into two“perfect” figures like a circle and asquare. The research for perfect pro-portions constitutes the main inspira-tion of the exquisite Zannetti’s Vitru-vian dial entirely covered by poly-chrome trans lucid enamels. A squarein scripted in the watch’s bezel circle,shiny because of a rhodium treat-ment, arises from a hand-engravedand hand-enamelled base createdwith the use of ancient working tech-

The greatest emotion which theZannetti Gladiator is capable ofgiving, is in effect given every timethe wearer puts it on. Its size is un-usual, its precious case is made ingold or steel, it has prestigious re-finements and all of these aspectsmake it a highly unusual and out-of-the-ordinary watch.
