The Year 12 students created artworks that displayed a point of view relating to the body. Year 11 students delved into identity and the Year 10 students created paintings that reflected a ‘window to the soul’.

This group maintained a high level of motivation and dedication to their work throughout the camp and achieved a lot in such a short time. The work completed is equivalent to what students would normally achieve in two weeks of class time, so this has been the perfect opportunity to focus on creating high quality work. Some of the works from camp will be on display at the Art Exhibition, which opens on Tuesday, 13th September at 6pm in the Paul Rafter Centre. All parents and students are invited to attend this opening, to acknowledge and view the wonderful works produced in Visual Arts and Design & Technology. Mrs Amy Richardson Head of Visual Art

A Message of Thanks from The Shopfront Many thanks for the wonderful collection of non-perishable food and toiletries. I have been away but was told that the person who organises our supplies was very appreciative of the way everything was ordered in boxes. There is a fantastic variety of items which will allow us to provide hampers to people in need. Please convey thanks to staff and students for supporting the work of The Shopfront. Sincerely, Mr Brian Tierney Director of The Shopfront

Year 10 Global Leadership Workshop On Thursday, 25th August, the Year 10 Global Leadership class was involved in a one-day workshop run by High Resolves on being Global Leaders.

The students participated in an innovative and engaging mix of activities designed to challenge their ideas of leadership and address global issues such as climate change. The CO2 game certainly gave students much to think about in regards to the way leaders around the world have to

balance the economic needs of their countries with the need to care for our environment. Mrs Adele Baker Head of Social Sciences

NAPLAN We have received information about the Year 7 and 9 NAPLAN conducted in May. Whilst we recognise that NAPLAN is a snapshot of student performance and we place far more emphasis on student learning and achievement in our school courses it is useful to provide a brief overview of results. The Year 7 Writing, Grammar and Punctuation and Spelling results are above the Australian average, with Reading and Numeracy at the Australian Average. The Year 9 Reading, Writing and Grammar and Punctuation results are above the Australian Average, with Spelling and Numeracy at the Australian Average. In comparing the Year 9 results with their 2014 Year 7 performance there have been significant improvements in all areas. In Reading and Numeracy a larger percentage of our students have been placed in the top 20% in Australia. Individual student information has been posted to parents and guardian.

Student Quiz Night On 29th August the Student Quiz Night was a great success, with over 150 students and staff competing. This is the highest number of competitors we have had in attendance, and it was wonderful to see students from every year group embracing the spirit of the event and enjoying a night together with friends. Quiz-goers competed in 10 quiz rounds to win fabulous prizes. For the winners of every round, group members could take their pick from the prize table from a $10 voucher from 18 different retail and food outlets. The groups also competed in ongoing rounds of Bingo, a ‘Famous Faces’ competition, and a Spelling Bee, which provided more opportunities to win prizes.

The atmosphere was electric and the students had a great time testing their knowledge of films, television, sport, history, music and a variety of other topics. It was great to see that so many groups invited staff members to be on their team, and there was a great sense of teamwork and competitive excitement throughout the evening. I would like to thank the Year 12 Prefects for their tireless efforts promoting the event to the students, and particularly Keiran Batavia, Tyler Walsh, Jeremiah Ayalde, Lauren Axiak and Olivia McManus, for their assistance in either writing the quiz, or purchasing the prizes and decorations. It was the Year 12 Prefects who first approached me about starting up the tradition of Quiz Night again, and their enthusiasm and support made the event possible.

I would also like to thank the English staff for assisting on the night in various roles: marking the quiz answers, tallying up the scores, supervising the prize table, taking photos and assisting with the set-up in the afternoon. I would also like to thank all other staff members who either assisted in setting up, came along to support us, or who joined in with student teams to share in the fun. Miss Jessica Stylianou Head of English

Senior Girls Soccer through to Shield Final On Monday, 5th September, the IMCC Senior Girls Soccer Team played Swan Valley Anglican College for a place in the School Sports WA Senior Girls Shield Final, which is the ‘second place’ final. The girls conceded a goal early in the third minute, however it took less than a minute for IMCC to equalise when Sophia Neal smashed one home from the edge of the box. At the 10th minute mark, Dee Hayes (in her comeback game) put IMCC in front but a mix up at the back shortly afterwards allowed Swan Valley to again equalise, this time 2-2. Just before half time, Dee was in the perfect spot and tapped in her second goal to give IMCC a 3-2 lead at half time. The second half started brightly with the ball being played beautifully out of the back, Jen McGlynn (Year 7) then played a great ball to Sophia who scored her second for the game and made the score 4-2. The IMCC girls continued their beautiful football and a great one touch passing game, despite some brilliant players in the Swan Valley team. With pretty much the last kick of the game, Ejay Doust capped off a brilliant game by scoring one herself to make the final score 5-2 to IMCC. This puts the IMCC Senior Girls team into the SSWA Shield Final, to be played at 1pm on Tuesday, 13th September against Australind SHS at Macedonia Park, Stirling. It will be a tough game but the girls have done amazingly well to make the shield final. Good luck girls!! Mr Damian Stefanoff Soccer Academy Coordinator

Undercroft Renovations With the availability of the Paul Rafter Centre for school assemblies, the undercroft will no longer be needed for whole school assemblies. Given this, we will be able to undertake improvements for this area. At yesterday’s Athletics assembly students were invited to submit concept plans for undercroft improvements. Considerations for the area include more plants and green area, tables and chairs, provisions for handball and an outdoor chess board which have become popular activities with some students. The undercroft area will still need to accommodate a smaller year group assembly area and use of the tiered seating for events such as ‘Sounds at Sunset’ and the launch of the Year 9 Camino Calling program. This activity could appeal to our graphic students and there may be a prize for the student or students with the best design concepts. Plans could be submitted by email [email protected] or handed in to reception by the end of term.

The last whole school assembly in the undercroft will be on Friday, 23rd September when students in Years 7-11 will recognise the Class of 2016 for their excellent and generous contribution to the College, congratulate them on their upcoming graduation and to wish them well for the future. We are fortunate to have the support of our Parent Group for this project.
