Art
This document includes six activities for each year group for this first half term. There are also some
more ideas below for drawing.
Years 1-4 drawing
Draw along with author Rob Biddulph! Every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 10:00am, Rob will be
post a draw along video. Follow the link below to find his draw along videos. Follow steps on the

In addition, there are some suggested activities below that you could also take part in each week or
on alternate weeks.
Years 5&6 drawing
There are lots of videos on Youtube on the ‘Art for Kids Hub’ demonstrating ‘How to Draw a Realistic
...’ e.g. ‘How to Draw a Realistic Cat’. Follow the link below to take you to the ‘Art for Kids Hub’ where
you can find the videos. Each week choose one of the videos to follow. Follow the steps on the video
pausing in between.

What you will need:
Drawing pen/pencil

Years 1&2 Activity 1
Egg box spring chicks
What you will need:
Egg box
Scissors
Glue
Paint/colouring pens
Orange card (if you have no orange card,
you could paint or colour a plain piece of
card)

below. Pause the video at different stages as you make your chick. Where paint is used, you could
instead colour your egg box with colouring pens.

Years 1&2 Activity 2
Drawing from nature
What you will need:
Natural materials (plants and/or rocks)
A4 paper
Drawing pencil
Magnifying glass (optional)
Natural materials are things from nature that
has not been made by people. They are found
all around us. Plants, animals and rocks are all
things from nature.
Step 1: Collect some natural materials from the garden/outside.
Step 2: Observe your object through touch and site. You may use a magnifying glass to observe
closely if you have one.
Step 3: Sketch the outline of your object with a pencil onto your A4 paper either landscape or
portrait.
Step 4: Look closely at the surface of your object. Find the lines, bumps, curves, wrinkles and spikes
and include these in your drawing.
Years 1&2 Activity 3
Paper weaving
What you will need:
Coloured paper (at least two different colours)
Scissors
Glue/sellotape
Buttons/glitter (optional)
Step 1: Making a paper loom. See instructions below.
Step 2: Weaving under and over. See instructions below.
Step 3: Continue to weave pieces of paper in and out alternating the colours to create a pattern if you
wish. See instructions below.
Step 4: If you wish, you can then decorate your paper weaving by
using glue to stick buttons or glitter on top.
Years 1&2 Activity 4
Origami fox
What you will need:
Sheet of paper colour of your choice e.g. orange
Scissors to cut paper to a square shape
Black pen

Years 1&2 Activity 5
Toilet tube butterfly
What you will need:
Toilet roll tube/kitchen roll tube
Two pieces of different coloured paper (e.g. purple
and yellow). If you don’t have coloured paper, you
could colour them with pens of pencils first.
Googly eyes (optional)
Pen
Glue
Scissors

Years 1&2 Activity 6
Picasso inspired collage
What you will need:
Magazine/newspaper
Scissors
Glue
Paper
Step 1: Watch the video clip about Picasso’s art work on drawing and painting people.
Step 2: After you have watched the clip, cut out different features from your magazine or newspaper
such as eyes, mouth, nose and other facial features.
Step 3: Draw the outline of a face to glue your features onto.
Step 4: Glue these features down to create your own face in the style of Picasso.
Alternatively you could use a photograph of a family member or observe a family member to draw
and colour their face. Think about the colours you will use.

Years 3&4 Activity 1
Insect shadow puppets
What you will need:
Selloptape
Scissors
Dark paper
Sticks
Cellophane (optional)
White or light coloured pencils
Step 1: Plan which insect you are going to draw. You could research this on the computer or in a
book.
Step 2: Draw a large puppet onto the dark paper and cut the puppet out.
Step 3: Cut out holes and sections where the cellophane can be used to cover. If you are using
cellophane, then cover these holes using cellophane by sellotaping into place.
Step 4: Sellotape a stick onto the puppet.
Years 3&4 Activity 2
Origami turtle
What you will need:
Sheet of paper colour of your choice e.g. green
Scissors to cute paper into square

paper to create an origami turtle. Pause the video at each stage to help you to follow the steps.

Years 3&4 Activity 3
Junk modelling elephant
What you will need:
Scissors
Glue/sellotape
Pens
Step 1: Draw two lines at the base of the
handle of the milk bottle. Cut away the
bottom of the handle to create the trunk
and mouth.
Step 2: Draw in sections for the feet and
cut the feet out.
Step 3: Draw a semi-circle on each side for
the ears. Cut out the ears and fold them so
they stick out.
Step 4: Decorate your elephant with stickers or pens.
Years 3&4 Activity 4
Toilet roll tube frog
What you will need:
Toilet roll/kitchen roll tube
Green paint
Green paper and red (If you don’t have
coloured paper, you could colour a sheet
with pens or pencils first)
Scissors
Glue
Stapler
Googly eyes (optional)

Years 3&4 Activity 5
Observational drawing of a butterfly based on ‘Austin’s Butterfly’
What you will need:
Pencil
2 pieces of A4 paper
Image of butterfly below
Step 1: With one piece A4 paper landscape, draw as best as you can the image of this butterfly.
Step 2: Ask a member of your household to critique your drawing by given you feedback.
Step 3: Draw the butterfly again using the feedback you have been given.
Step 4: Compare your two drawings.
This activity could be done over the course of a week and you could redraw your butterfly each day
of the week to compare and see your progress.
Years 3&4 Activity 6
Flower collage
What you will need:
Scissors
Glue
Different types of paper (newspaper, coloured
paper, magazines, textured paper, tissue
paper)
Sheet of paper to arrange collage onto
(white/blue/black)
Step 1: Look at the examples of the flower collages below for inspiration.
Flower collages using tissue paper
Torn and cut out flowers
Step 2: Cut and tear paper into shapes needed e.g. circles, triangles for petals, leaves, stems etc.
Step 3: Arrange these onto your plain piece of paper overlapping in places.
Step 4: Once you are happy with your arrangement, glue the flowers into place.
Years 5&6 Activity 1
Egg box daffodils
What you will need:
Egg box
Scissors
Glue
Paint/colouring pens
Cupcake cases
Green card/tissue paper (optional)
Step 1: Cut out the trumpet shaped parts of the egg box. Paint these if you wish using yellows and
oranges.
Step 2: Cut your cupcake case into quarters and then cut out the centre of your cupcake case which
would usually be the base. This will give you 4 pieces to make 4 flowers. Next cut slits into the ridged
edge of the 4 sections that you have cut. Cut these slits down an equal length to create a fringed
edge.
Step 3: Carefully roll up the fringed pieces of cupcake cake you have cut and glue this inside the
trumpet parts of your egg cases you have painted. Fold another cupcake case into eighths.
Step 4: Cut your folded cupcake case into a petal shape. Unfold once cut. Now glue this to the base of
your trumpet shape part of the egg box. You will need to make a few of these depending on how
many daffodils you have made.
Step 5: If you wish to attach your daffodils to stems, you could cut some lengths or green card to glue
to the base of your flower or alternatively you could roll up some green tissue paper to glue to the
base of the flower.
Years 5&6 Activity 2
Junk modelling racing car
What you will need:
Scissors
Cardboard box (e.g. cereal box)
Cardboard tube (e.g. toilet roll tube)
Stickers/pens to decorate
Step 1: Mark out the nose shape at the front of your cardboard box.
Step 2: Carefully cut out the nose shape.
3: Cut out the end of the box the opposite end of
the nose. Keep the spare cardboard to use later.
Step 4: Mark out the lines for the wing prop and cut
carefully. Then fold up the props for the wing on
both sides.
Step 5: Cut slits half way across each prop. Use the
spare cardboard to make the wing. Cut it in half
and then cut slits to fit into the props. Then slide
the board into place.
Step 6: Cut away a section of a cardboard tube and attach it to the body of the car using
glue/stickers/sellotape. Then decorate your car using stickers of pens.
Years 5&6 Activity 3
Origami flower
What you will need:
Sheet of paper colour of your choice e.g. yellow
Scissors to cut paper to a square shape

Years 5&6 Activity 4
Toilet tube penguin
What you will need:
Toilet roll/kitchen roll tube
Black paint
Orange and black paper (If you don’t have coloured paper,
you could colour these with pens or pencils first)
Scissors
Glue
Google eyes (optional)

Years 5&6 Activity 5
Drawing with perspective
What you will need:
Pencil
Ruler
Rubber
Frame (optional)
Paints
Step 1: Watch the video clip below to teach you about drawing with perspective. You could pause this
at stages or re-watch stages as you work through the steps.
Step 2: Choose a window to observe the view from e.g. your bedroom window. Alternatively, you
could use a photograph of a view.
Step 3: If you would like to view just a section through your window, you could blue tack a frame
made from paper and observe through that section of the frame.
Step 4: Use a ruler and a pencil to draw some of the main shapes you can see e.g. house. Continue to
add detail to the roof and of the road/paths.
Step 5: Add more detail to your drawing such as trees
that you can see.
Step 6: Use paints to paint your drawing.

Years 5&6 Activity 6
Fruit collage in the style of Amanda Pearce
What you will need:
Scissors
Glue
Different types of paper (newspaper,
coloured paper, magazines, textured paper,
tissue paper)
Sheet of paper to arrange collage onto
(white/blue/black)
Step 1: Look at the example of Amanda Pearce’s fruit collage below.
Step 2: Collect the needed materials choosing colours suitable for your fruit.
Step 3: Cut and tear paper into shapes needed e.g. circles, semi-circles for apples, grapes etc.
Step 4: Arrange these onto your plain piece of paper overlapping in places.
Step 5: Once you are happy with your arrangement, glue the flowers into place.
