How is everyone doing on the mid-term?

We will have a guest speaker come in to class on Monday, March 20th. Karl Gnass will be giving a lecture on Storytelling.

Karl Gnass has been teaching drawing for over 35 years and in 1969 went to work as a character designer for Sid and Marty Krofft's H. R. Pufnstuf and later, Lidsville. Karl has storyboarded for Fox Entertainment, Saban and Coca Cola. He was also on staff in story development at Disney Television Animation and storyboarded for as Aladdin, Gargoyles, Darkwing Duck and The Little Mermaid. He developed character expressions with anatomical breakdowns for Stuart in the feature Stuart Little. He is currently involved in other projects, including Harry Potter, with Sony ImageWorks. Over the last ten years Karl has been teaching life drawing, animal drawing and storyboarding in many of the major studios in So. California: Disney Television Animation, Disney Feature Animation, Sony ImageWorks, DreamWorks, Nickelodeon and Warner Brothers. In 2004, at the suggestion of Glen Keane, Karl developed a Dynamic Figure For Maya class to help computer artists understand authentic movement in the new technology.

:: mid-term assignment Stock Footage Short Film

Purpose/Objective: To work with found elements to construct an original piece of art. To go through the full creative design process for cinematic time-based projects. To integrate the images, motion graphic design, digital video, sound editing, and multimedia

authoring software in the creation of a unified multimedia work of art. To effectively defend course work conceptually.

Assignment: Use the stock video library footage (OPTIONAL: or use your own footage*) to create a short film. Conceptually there are no guidelines. The final product can be experimental in nature or thematically abstract (ie. video art, Norman McLaren, etc). or it can be a more traditional narrative (ie. documentary, drama, comedy, etc.)

Format: There are two major parts to the assignment:1. DVD

2. Four downloadable web versions of the film to be handed in on a data CD. Quicktime (.mov) Windows Media Player (.wmv) Real Player (.rm) Flash (.swf)
