ARPS NEWS From the Principal The 3RS Throughout the last weeks in lockdown and remote learning, our students and families have shown the most incredible levels of respect, responsibility and resilience, our Albany Rise 3-Rs! It have been lovely to drop into some of the class website sessions during the week and see staff and stu- dents working so hard to complete their tasks together online. Of course, this is all possible due to the hard work of parents ensuring students are engaged in their learning and ready to learn each day. For many of us, this Lockdown 6.0 seems to be just that bit tougher than some of the previous restrictions. What ever novelty may have been apparent during the same time last year, is not apparent this year. I am so proud of the way families have kept in contact with the school and each other to continue to provide a supportive community for our chil- dren at ARPS. The efforts of all have not gone unnoticed, and the kindness, generosity and care shown from our fami- lies to staff has been just outstanding. For some of our clas- ses this week and last week, there has been 100% attend- ance for the whole week. This does not happen without our parents working hard at home, and for that we are all truly grateful! The support form our families makes our work at school so much more rewarding, and helps us continue to do the best for ourkids learning, engagement and wellbe- ing. Covid Update Following last weekends announcements, it is now recom- mended but not mandatory that children in primary school wear masks. Parents and carers of students learn- ing onsite are asked to discuss this with their child/ren. The decision of whether to wear a mask at school or not will be left to each family. It is important that the children feel com- fortable with the choice made and staff here will always en- sure that they remain supportive and have each childs emo- tional wellbeing in the forefront of everything they do. At this stage, the rules around staff not having to wear a mask when directly teaching students, has not changed, but they can wear one if they choose. All other staff must always wear masks whilst at school, unless eating or drinking. Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this lockdown period. I know many of you are frustrat- ed, tired (if not exhausted), disillusioned and even angry, however we continue to work together to ensure that all stu- dents are learning, and our families are safe. ARPS NEWS

From the Principal

The 3RS

Throughout the last weeks in lockdown and remote learning, our students and families have shown the most incredible levels of respect, responsibility and resilience, our Albany Rise 3-Rs! It have been lovely to drop into some of the class website sessions during the week and see staff and stu-dents working so hard to complete their tasks together online.

I am so proud of the way families have kept in contact with the school and each other to continue to provide a supportive community for our chil-dren at ARPS. The efforts of all have not gone unnoticed, and the kindness, generosity and care shown from our fami-lies to staff has been just outstanding. This does not happen without our parents working hard at home, and for that we are all truly grateful! The support form our families makes our work at school so much more rewarding, and helps us continue to do the best for ‘our’ kids learning, engagement and wellbe-ing.

Covid Update

Following last weekend’s announcements, it is now recom-mended but not mandatory that children in primary school wear masks. Parents and carers of students learn-ing onsite are asked to discuss this with their child/ren. The decision of whether to wear a mask at school or not will be left to each family. It is important that the children feel com-fortable with the choice made and staff here will always en-sure that they remain supportive and have each child’s emo-tional wellbeing in the forefront of everything they do. Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this lockdown period. I know many of you are frustrat-ed, tired (if not exhausted), disillusioned and even angry, however we continue to work together to ensure that all stu-dents are learning, and our families are safe.

NAPLAN Parents may have heard through recent media reports that NAPLAN results will be released to schools in the coming week. We are expecting the printed copies of individual student reports to arrive at school by the start of September. Depending on the restrictions and lockdown status at the time, the individual reports will either be distributed via the school sometime after 3rd September, or mailed home to parents. We will let you know when the results are available via the usual communication portals. Families who are interested can see more about our State NAPLAN results from the following link:

https://www.education.vic.gov.au/about/news/Pages/stories/2021/Highlights-from-Victorian-Preliminary-Results-in-NAPLAN-2021.aspx?utm_source=email+marketing+Mailigen&utm_campaign=direct+send-operational-schools&utm_medium=email

Highlights from Victorian Preliminary Results in NAPLAN 2021 The incredible resilience and hard work of Victorian educators, students and families has been reflected in the remarkable results for this year's NAPLAN tests.

Leading the nation

Victoria has held the top spot as the highest-performing jurisdiction on seven out of ten measures in the pri-mary school years. Our Year 3 and Year 5 numeracy results were the highest in the country.

Year 7 students achieved the highest scores of any jurisdiction for the foundation skills of Reading and Nu-meracy, and our Year 9 students achieved the highest scores for Spelling.

More students achieving their best Victoria also improved on our 2019 results. Reading was a particular highlight, with students in years 3, 5 and 7 demonstrating significant improvement.

More than 62 per cent of Year 3 students are now achieving in the top two bands for Reading, representing an increase of almost ten per cent from 2015.

Since 2015, the number of students in the bottom two bands for Reading has decreased by more than eight percentage points for Year 5 students and more than two percentage points for Year 3 students.

In years 3 and 5, over 13,000 more students are achieving at the highest reading levels compared to 2015.

Webinar: Taming digital distractions

Presented by Dr Kristy Goodwin

8th September 2021 - 8 : 00pm AEST

Technology is an integral part of life for our children – it’s the portal for their leisure, learning and connection. However, digital technologies can also disrupt a child’s focus, put a dent in their learning and compromise their wellbeing. In this webinar, Dr Kristy Goodwin helps parents and carers understand why children and adolescents are vulnerable to digital distractions. She provides science-backed solutions to help kids and teens develop healthy digital behaviours so that they can focus, learn and thrive online. Key learning and discussion points include:

• how long we should expect focused attention from children and teens

• the research behind why digital distractions are interfering with our children’s attention

• how some technologies have been intentionally designed to be captivating and alluring

• why banning technology isn’t the solution • how to teach children and teens how to build a ‘fortress around their focus’ and leverage the benefits

that technology offers them
