Lockdown ScenarioCAPTURE A SCENARIO
How might Geeta and Rajesh Arora, working parents, staying with their 2 children and in-laws during this lockdown, manage their parent’s health emergencies, grocery shoppings and other household works?
Geeta and Rajesh Arora are both working in MNCs. They have a son who is in 9th standard and a daughter who is preparing for college entrance exams. They live with Rajesh’s parents. Geeta’s mother-in-law is suffering from thyroid and father-in-law is a diabetic patient. He needs regular checkup, proper food and medicines. As both Geeta and Rajesh are working from home, they stay very busy the entire day. They had a house help who would come to their house everyday to clean the house, make food and do all the shopping. After the lockdown was announced, she could not come and help.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
How should everyone locked down at home get help for their household works, grocery shopping, medical assistance and how can they pass their time without stressing out about the situation and disrupting the social distancing everyone is practicing.
WHY IS IT AN URGENT PROBLEM?
Limiting personal contact with strangers is the best way to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. While following the lockdown norms is a necessity to fight covid-19, managing day-to-day needs is still an ongoing challenge. If every individual steps out to arrange their basic day to day needs social distancing becomes ineffective. The senior citizens consisting of about 8.5% of India’s population are at the highest risk of contracting the virus making it the biggest challenge. If the pandemic needs to be arrested, the community spread has to stop and the only way out is effective social distancing.

SOLUTIONS & IDEAS
We started the process through survey and interviews and learnt that we need to design a system for the elderly that could help them with their day to day needs. As the senior citizens are most vulnerable, they need the most help. Our first thought was to create an app ,but through our interviews we understood that most elderly are technologically challenged and helping them with a new apps would not be a right solution. Our next approach was , providing the solution through WhatsApp , as it is very user friendly and most of them seemed to know how to use Whatsapp. Through our survey, very soon we found out that not only senior citizens, but everyone is facing similar issues and needs help too. Hence, we expanded our target group to all citizens , so that self-help can be established in neighbourhoods, ensuring social distancing.
Solution
HOW DOES OUR SOLUTION ADDRESS THE IDENTIFIED PROBLEM?
We went through multiple options for a solution but nailed in for a system update for the app Aarogya Setu. We were wanting to build a community based app and did not want to reinvent the wheel, when Aarogya Setu is available and already has 11.5+ Crore downloads.
Advantage 1: Effective Social Distancing
● This will improve the safety of the neighbourhood. ● Help in building a social community in the
neighbourhood.● Ensure the supermarkets or medical shops are not
overcrowded ● Ensure less traffic congestion on roads , reducing
pollution● Saves time and efforts for everyone
Advantage 2: Continuous learning and development
● Users spends time in learning and development instead of stressing out.
● The system keeps the users engaged which will help in overall well being.
● Users can share their knowledge and expertise.
User Experience
● A service where people staying in your neighbourhood can support you. Just upload a list of items you need on the app and the app will connect you with someone who is already shopping for their own stuff.
● The app will be sending requests to volunteers staying in a radius of 3 kms, so that the volunteers don’t need to go out of the way to help others.
● It is a community based service – where each one can volunteer for others who is in need.
● Webinars and workshops hosted by various artists, motivational speakers and organizations keeps people distracted from all the negative news everywhere.
A visual representation of how we imagined the update of the app would look like.

Customer Journey Mapping
Shreerang Sharma75 Years old, married, has 2 kids who stay in Mumbai, lives in Godhra Gujarat.
Shreerang is a retired Captain from Indian Navy he stays with his wife in a small town called Godhra in Gujarat. Shreerang and his wife have always been independent when it comes to taking care of each other and the house. Ever since the lockdown has started due to the breakdown of Covid-19 they have not been able to step out of the house since they are at a very high risk of getting infected. The neighbours have been getting the supplies for Shreerang’s house whenever they stepped out to get theirs. A week ago, Shreerang needed a few grocery items very urgently and he realized that none of his neighbours were stepping out soon. Just then he remembered seeing an advertisement about Aarogya Setu’s new update. He picked up his phone and started exploring the app, he found the option of requesting a volunteer for groceries, medicines etc. He immediately updated his list of groceries and placed a request. The request was soon accepted by Mr. Patel who stays 2 blocks away from Shreerang and was already at the store when he received the request and was there at Shreerang’s door within 20 minutes. Shreerang loved how the app helped him get his groceries at a gallop in time of need. The fact it’s an app monitored by the government and that it was delivered by a trusted person who didn’t have go out of their way to help him made him relying on the app easier.
