The GI Bill is a federally-funded program administered by the
Department of Veterans Affairs and military services. Soldiers
meeting qualifications may be eligible for more than one GI
Bill program. Only one program may be used at a time.
There is a maximum of 36 months of full-time benefits when
eligible for one GI Bill Program and 12 additional months
if eligible for two or more programs. Soldiers are eligible
for a lifetime maximum of 48 benefit months. Benefits may
be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training,
apprenticeship/on-the-job training, training academies, and
correspondence courses; remedial, deficiency, and refresher
courses may also be approved under certain circumstances.
To use a GI Bill, Soldiers must submit a VA Form 22-1990,
Application for VA Education Benefits to the Department of
Veterans Affairs. Information on all GI Bill programs can found

Enrollment requires a $1,200.00 fee ($100.00 per month
for 12 months or a lump sum payment). Soldiers mobilized
for 730 consecutive days or more may be eligible to enroll.
Eligible Soldiers are required to make a lump sum payment
of $1,200.00.
(MGIB-AD) CHAPTER 30
PLUS-UP:
If you are eligible to use Chapter 30 GI Bill, have a remaining
benefit and are currently on active duty, you may be eligible
to make an additional contribution up to $600.00 for an
increased monthly benefit when attending college.
ARNG GI BILL KICKER:
The ARNG MGIB Kicker is an additional incentive to the
Chapter 1606 and 30 GI Bill. The purpose of this incentive is
to encourage use of the MGIB-SR or MGIB-AD for the cost
of attending college and encourage the retention of Soldiers
making use of those benefits. Soldiers must meet specific
criteria in order to become eligible for this incentive. Contact
your Education Services Office for additional information.
POST 9/11 GI BILL CHAPTER 33:
The Post 9/11 GI Bill program is available to Soldiers who
served on Title 10 Active Duty or specific Title 32 Active Duty
orders, as defined by law, for 90 aggregate days or more since
11 September 2001. Soldiers who have completed six years of
qualifying Armed Forces service, who are currently serving as
a member of the ARNG, and agree to serve an additional four
years in the ARNG may be able to transfer all or part of their
education benefits to their spouse or eligible dependents.
GI BILL PROGRAMS GI BILL INFORMATION
SELECTED RESERVE (MGIB-SR)
CHAPTER 1606:
The MGIB-SR program is available to members of the Selected
Reserves. To qualify for the MGIB-SR, you must have a six-
year service obligation, high school diploma or equivalent, and
complete Initial Active Duty Training (IADT). You must remain
in a drilling status to use MGIB-SR.
RESERVE EDUCATIONAL
ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (REAP)
CHAPTER 1607:
REAP program is available to Reserve Component (RC)
Soldiers who served in support of a contingency operation
on or after 11 September 2001 for 90 consecutive days or
more. Soldiers separated from mobilization due to injury,
illness or diseases with less than 90 days of mobilization
service may be eligible to receive REAP.
(REAP) CHAPTER 1607 BUY-UP:If you qualify for the Chapter 1607, have remaining entitlement
and are currently in the Ready Reserve (ARNG, ING or IRR)
you may be eligible to make an additional contribution up to
$600.00 and receive increased monthly benefits.
ACTIVE DUTY (MGIB-AD)
CHAPTER 30:The MGIB-AD program may be available to you if you entered
into Active Duty after June 30, 1985. Eligible AGR Soldiers
with a two-year (or longer) tour may enroll in MGIB-AD by
submitting the following information: name, last four digits
of social security number, state of assignment, AKO email
address, and AGR start date to the ARNG GI Bill Support
Team.
