Armenia h-17by pier casotti
On October 10th 2009 Turkey and Armenia signed an historical protocol to reopen their borders closed since 1993 as a consequence of broken diplomatic relationships. First the “armenian genocide” of 1915 and later the war between Armenia and turkish ally Azerbaijan.
Since then Armenia has been facing, de fatco, an economic embargo that drove the country from the XXth century old sovietic splendors to a constant and scaring empoverishment.
Signs are everywhere around on the H17, the street that from Giumri, up north, brings down to the capital Yerevan. 300 km running the whole border cynically unveiling the social consequences.
It is a journey of istincts, feelings and emotions, no room for prejudices; visual memories of this one way road trip trying to recors life after 16 year of isolation.
