Arizona Senior Center Association...Hello members and friends of the Arizona Senior Center...
Transcript of Arizona Senior Center Association...Hello members and friends of the Arizona Senior Center...
Hello members and friends of the Arizona Senior Center Association.
I’m pleased and excited to invite you to this year’s Annual Conference in Prescott July 17 and 18. In recognition of our changing environment, concurrent with the changing interests of the members and potential members
we serve, we’ve chosen the theme – Adapting and Living Boldly.
Workshops and breakout sessions will challenge and prepare you to look ahead, and to get ready to embrace and meet the changes of the next generation of retirees. Our Keynote speaker is Dana Marie Kennedy, State Director of AARP Arizona. Her topic “Who are the Baby Boomers?” will talk about what the future of aging looks like and the need for us, as professionals in the aging field, to transform and adapt to the diversity of interests in our centers.
I hope you will join us at the Conference in Prescott as ASCA continues to provide you with the latest information of importance to our profession and the people we serve. And let’s not forget that the conference is an excellent time to connect with friends and develop new professional and social contacts. Prescott is also about 15° cooler than Phoenix during the month of July, and if you enjoy the rain we may get some.
I encourage you to invite your staff and others who you feel might be interested in the conference to register. Sign up soon. Details and forms are included in this issue of the newsletter and on the events page of our website, www.arizonaseniors.net. You will note page 8 is a membership form to join or renew. All mem-bers are requested to renew their membership during the month of July.
I hope to see you in Prescott!

“ADAPTING AND LIVING BOLDLY”
Annual Conference
The Arizona Senior Center Association (ASCA) will hold its annual conference in cool Prescott at the Prescott Resort and Conference Center on July 17 and 18. The theme is “Adapting and Living Boldly.” As we all know, the new population of seniors is changing and we must adapt or we will be left behind. Our keynote speaker will talk about Baby Boomers and what we can expect from them and what they expect as they are living longer and living boldly, doing things generations before them have never dreamed of doing.
Keynote speaker this year is Dana Marie Kennedy, AARP Arizona State Director. Her presentation is on “Who Are The Baby Boomers?” We know things changed for all of us during the Great Recession. Now, what does the future of aging look like? Baby boomers are still coming; as professionals in the aging field, we need to transform how we view aging. Dana will talk on Baby Boomers and the economy, retirement, health, family, technology and volunteerism. See more information about Ms. Kennedy on page 4
The conference will again feature outstanding presenters, exhibitors, great food, and networking opportunities. Gold Sponsors that have signed on to date include the Area Agency on Aging, Region One, Incorporated, LPI (Liturgical Publications, Inc.), and OPTUM Health Plan Arizona. You will also want to join us at the networking social on Monday night in the Eagle’s Nest Lounge.
The Jane Eck Memorial Scholarship is again available this year to allow small rural communities to attend the conference. A scholarship application form is available on the ASCA webpage. This is open to new member communities.
New officers will be elected at the annual meeting. These officers will assume their positions on August 1, 2017 and serve for two years. Positions available are: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. They will join Board members Josie Salas, Brenda Schumacher and Anita Hinojos whose two year terms will conclude July 31, 2017.
