Dear Friends,

During November, we remember and honor all those who have preceded us in death. We recall especially those who passed away this past year as we did on All Souls Day. It is normal to struggle with one’s faith when dealing with the sorrows of death and grief. Death comes with trauma and questions that we can never answer satisfactorily. Why was she taken so soon? Why did he suffer so much? Why so young? How will our family get through this? We come together today, and each Sunday, as a family of faith to be nourished at the table of the Word and the table of the Eucharist. He we are comforted even with the unanswered questions, knowing that above all, our God is a loving God who cares for each one of us here and in the hereafter. May the resurrected Lord, whom we receive in the Eucharist, strengthen and comfort us as we pray for those we have lost.

On the front cover of this week’s bulletin, you will notice the picture of an award that was presented to our parish community last weekend at the 11AM Mass. At that Mass, Monsignor Fred Britto, the pastor of Saint Cyprian Parish in West Philadelphia (our sister parish) along with Carla, the parish outreach director for Saint Cyprian’s, joined us for Mass and at its conclusion, presented the parish with the Saint Cyprian Award. This award is granted annually to a person who made a significant contribution to the Saint Cyprian community. This is the first time in the twenty-one year history of this award that it was presented to some one outside the parish community. The parish council of Saint Cyprian’s wanted to express their deep appreciation to our parish who has so generously supported them for the past 20 years. This is an award to all of you who participate monthly in the food collection and all who participate in the Giving Tree. Sallie Theis and Rose Abecasis accepted the award on behalf of our parish. Sallie and Rose have organized the Giving Tree from its inception and have been an integral link between our two communities. I thank them for all their coordination in making many things happen as well as to the men who deliver the food every month to the food pantry at Saint Cyprian’s. We are all set to accept your Giving Tree donations for this year in the Santa mailbox in the narthex. Hopefully next year we will return to the shopping phase of the Giving Tree.

This week is Vocation Awareness Week throughout the archdiocese. As you are well aware, prayers for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life are part of our daily prayer here at Saint Robert’s. There is a Holy Hour for vocations this Tuesday evening, November 9 at 7PM at Nativity of Our Lord Church in Warminster. Please consider spending an hour in prayer with member of the larger community to intercede to the Lord for an increase in priestly vocations. We need more men to join us in this wonderful vocation of service to the People of God.

This weekend we will have the first two drawings for our annual Turkey Raffle. To be honest, I was concerned that this raffle would not be too successful this year with the delay by the printing company and the mail delivery which has been slow. I heard from several parishioners that they never received the mailing. However, I should never have doubted your support! As of this writing, the profit for the parish will be greater than last year. This is fantastic!! Good luck to all who are participating in the raffle!

Thank you to all who have returned their census information. It is so good to be able to update the census with the most current information. If possible, if you have not returned the census, please try to complete this before Thanksgiving. That will give the staff sufficient time to input the information into the system.

This week I will once again be away for my annual retreat at the Abbey of the Holy Cross in Berryville, Virginia. I enjoy this week surrounded by the beauty of silence in the spirit of the Trappist monks. Be assured of even more intense prayers for all of you and know that I carry your intentions with me as I celebrate Mass in the monastery. Please pray for me, that I make a good and fruitful retreat in the Lord!

May Saint Robert Bellarmine, bless this month of November and bring home to the Lord our beloved dead!

With prayers,

The Thirty-second Sunday o

Jesus has a specific task in life for each and every one of us. Each one of us is hand-picked, called by name by Jesus! There is no one among us who does not have a divine vocation! Some are called audibly by God, but the usual kind of call is internal, through the inner working of the Spirit,” ~ Homily by Pope Saint John Paul II

During this week, please encourage the young people in your life –children, grandchildren, students, and friends—to be open if God calls them to priesthood or religious life.

FOCUS ON FAITH

1 Kings 17:1-16; Hebrews 9:24-28; Mark 12:38-44

Who are you in today’s Gospel? There is a striking difference between the scribes and the poor widow. On the one hand, we can picture the scribes walking around, dressed head to foot in the latest fashion, always respected by the people for their greatness and intelligence. They are likely highly sought after within their community. On the other hand, we have the poor widow. Because of her simplicity, perhaps no one would have noticed her, if Jesus had not been watching for her. Who are you? Do you seek to be known and noticed by others? Do you seek the approval of others and engage in good deeds to be well liked? Are you willing to be satisfied with not being recognized by others, so long as you were faithful to God? Do

you offer everything to God, even when you really have nothing to give him? Is there an area in your life in which you are poor? Come before the Lord this week with your poverty. Offer it to him humbly and honestly. From FORMED: Opening God’s Word

CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL FOR 2021 - GIVING HOPE TO ALL During 2020 Catholic Social Services assisted 3976 pregnant women through its Beautiful Beginnings program, The program distributed diapers, baby food, maternity and baby clothing, car seats, and more. When you support the Catholic Charities Appeal, you are helping Catholic Social Services provide these vital resources to mothers in need.

Archbishop Wood and Our Lady of Confidence School students teamed up in Creative Expression & Illustration class to write and illustrate some spooky Halloween stories! The CCA is proud to benefit schools of special education like Our Lady of Confidence.

Earlier this week, Archbishop Nelson Perez celebrated Mass for the Communities of Do Guanella and Divine Providence, a ministry of Catholic Social Services. This Mass was celebrated to honor the feast of their patron saint, Saint Louis Guanella. This 19th-century Italian priest, known as Don Guanella, ministered to children with physical and intellectual disabilities.

Our support of the CCA supports the communities of Don Guanella and Divine Providence, Our Lady of Confidence School, and many deserving beneficiaries of the Catholic Charities Appeal.

To date the parish is at 87% of our $71,900 goal with a donation of $62,560 from 465 parishioners. Pledge envelopes are located in the Narthex and the side entrances. They can be mailed directly to the CCA or dropped in the collection basket. For cash donations the parish office will forward a check, crediting your name, to the CCA.

Vocation Awareness Week November 7-13, 2021 This annual week-long celebration is designed to raise awareness of, and promote vocations to, the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life. During Vocation Awareness Week, the Vocation Office for the Diocesan Priesthood invites you to pray for those men and women in formation, as well as for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Resources: Heedthecall.org Discernment groups for guys: melchizedekproject.com For women: discernavow.com Stop by St. Roberts Vocation corner in the Narthex and pick up some free vocation material **This weekend committee members will be present to answer questions and hand out some vocation related items. ***We will have cutouts of a priest and religious for some fun pictures with our young ones and students. They will love it!

Join Fr. Friel, Vocation director for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, at Nativity of Our Lord Church in Warminster on Tuesday, November 9th at 7pm for a Holy Hour to pray for vocations

Prayer Leading to Action Mother Teresa famously said, “I used to pray that God would feed the hungry, but now I pray that he will guide me to do whatever I’m supposed to do…Prayer changes us and we change things.” The same applies to praying for vocations. Many of us are also called to work for vocations: to talk to kids, reach out to youth, and guide our own children.

What work is on your heart to do?

2021 PARISH GIVING TREE:

Once again, we invite all parishioners to join in the Spirit of Christmas by helping those in need. The 2021 Giving Tree will once again be handled with your safety in mind, as well as the safety of our Giving Tree team members and that of our gift recipients. To that end, we are only accepting Gift Cards, which will be donated to each St. Cyprian family so they can shop for the personal needs of their family in time for Christmas, St. Vincent de Paul Society and A Baby’s Breath.

The following Gift Cards are requested to fulfill the needs of those organizations: Amazon, Target, Walmart, Shop Rite, Giant, American Express, Master Card and Visa. Cash and/or checks payable to St. Robert’s will be accepted for Tuition Assistance.

In order to provide sufficient time for these families to shop for themselves, and in view of the supply chain challenges, we are starting the Giving Tree early again this year! A locked mailbox will be placed in the narthex the second Sunday of October and remain there at least through Thanksgiving. Please drop your purchased gift cards in the mailbox. Donations will be disseminated as needed unless you notate your organization(s) of choice on an envelope. The mailbox will be emptied on a daily basis, and the gift cards moved to a locked safe. We will not be collecting winter hats, mittens/gloves and socks this year.

Any St. Robert’s parish family that may be in a difficult situation this year, that would benefit from the services our ‘Giving Tree’ provides, please call Msgr. Beisel at the parish office to discuss. All requests will be kept confidential. Our team thanks you for your continued generosity. Please call Sallie Theis 215.696.1477 or Rosemarie
