Wireless communication will replace traditional methods

Traditional transfer of information via a cable will be used less and less as wireless communication becomes more prevalent.

Therefore Independent Operators must be able to receive information wirelessly in a similar way to the vehicle manufacturers.

Page 13: Arild Hansen

What is needed?

Independent Operators need:

• same timescale as vehicle manufacturers to allow Independents to offer competitive services

• a standardised vehicle API that allows Independent Operators to upload their own applications into the vehicle, enabling the vehicle owner to connect his telematics system to a service provider of his own choice.

• equal access to the same information and the same functionalities

Continuation of Right to Repair Campaign (R2RC)

1st Stage (launched in 2007)

Main purpose: to inform EU decision-makers that the automotive industry is not only composed of vehicle manufacturers, but also contains an aftermarket with its own rights, merits and needs.

2nd Stage (2012-2013):

Main purpose: a new focused strategy, primarily aiming at highlighting the structure of the multi-brand aftermarket and the specific role of each operator in the value chain

Centre-piece: a video which captures the essential work of each operator as part of a chain which is essential for the service and repair of vehicles for consumers. The video will be followed by a dedicated website.
