Argumentative Writing PowerPoint and Notes INSTRUCTIONS

Common Core Standards: W.6.1; W.6.1a-e W.7.1; W.7.1a-e W.8.1; W.8.1a-e

This interactive argumentative unit is engaging and humorous. It will surely keep your students’ attention, while they learn the intricacies of argument writing. The

guided notes correspond with the PowerPoint show that is included in the zip file. As you go through the presentation, students will fill in the boxes included in their notes.

Each note-page is designed to be used

in any type of notebook. If your students use a

marble composition book, they can cut around the inner rectangle and glue the pages into the

notebook.

After the notes have been completed, students can write their own argumentative essay, with the help of the argument essay outline. Please note: The counterargument paragraph is not a required part of the Grade 6 Common Core Curriculum. However, it is good practice to expose students to it at this grade level. If you’d like, you can omit this paragraph from the essay writing.
