` The earliest evidence of humans in Argentina is in

Patagonia (Piedra Museo, Santa Cruz), and dates from

11,000 BC.

` The Inca Empire, under King Pachacutec, invaded,

and conquered present-day northwestern Argentina in1480, a feat usually attributed to Túpac Inca Yupanqui.

` A wave of  foreign investment and immigration from

Europe after 1875 led to the strengthening of a

cohesive state, the development of modernagriculture and to a near-reinvention of Argentine

society and the economy.

`  Argentina has abundant natural resources, a well-educated population, an export-oriented agriculturalsector and a relatively diversified industrial base.

` The dictatorship's chief economist, José AlfredoMartínez de Hoz, advanced a disorganized, corrupt,monetarist[78] financial liberalization that increased thedebt burden and interrupted industrial developmentand upward social mobility;

`  Argentina has, after its neighbour Chile, the second-highest Human Development Index and GDP per

capita in purchasing power parity in Latin America.
