7:30  –  9:30  PM   Visit  to  Antoni  Gaudi’s  Casa  Batlló Casa  Batlló  showcases  the  multi-­‐talented  creative  genius  of  Antoni  Gaudí,  the  most  internationally  renowned  figure  in  Catalan  Modernism  architecture.    Gaudí  innovated  in  architecture,  art,  carpentry,  engineering  and  furniture  design,  to  create  this  unparalleled  showpiece.    It’s  a  perfect  way  to  kick  off  the  multi-­‐disciplinary  innovation  theme  of  Inventours.

The  industrial  design  genius  who  collaborated  with  Ferran  Adriá  (5  times  selected  “Best  Restaurant  in  the  World”  for  El  Bulli)  to  create  one-­‐of-­‐a-­‐kind  utensils  and  dishware  to  enhance  each  dish  in  a  35-­‐course  menu.    His  work,  at  the  intersection  of  design  and  gastronomy,  has  been  exhibited  at  the  Pompidou  Center  in  Paris.    Luki  taught  design  in  Switzerland  and  Spain,  and  developed  products  for  firms  including  Lekue,  Cerebella  &  Xocoa.    He’ll  speak  about  his  “Manual  Thinking”  technique  that  fosters  creative  teamwork.

11:15-­‐12:00  AM     Innovative  Architecture:  Insiders’  Tour  of  Sagrada  Familia    Visit  one  of  the  most  innovative  cathedrals  on  the  planet,  begun  in  1882  and  still  not  completed,  designed  by  Barcelona’s  legendary  architect,  Antioni  Gaudi.      Hear  how  he  thought  out  of  the  box,  approached  the  design  challenges  for  this  ambitious  project,  and  the  many  influences  on  his  work,  including  nature  and  the  sea.

One  of  Barcelona’s  most  innovative  architectural  projects,  the  colorful,  undulating  tile  design  by  Enric  Miralles  and  Benedetta  Tagliabue  has  transformed  a  dour  Neoclassical  fresh-­‐food  market  into  a  flying  carpet  of  brilliant  colors.  The  reconstruction  of  the  Santa  Caterina  Market—and  the  architect’s  urban  renewal  plan  for  the  streets  around  it—have  brought  life  and  light  into  this  neighborhood  within  Barcelona’s  Gothic  Quarter.

Fantastic,  one  of  a  kind  music  hall,  in  design,  color,  detail,  and  spirit,  built  between  1905  and  1908,  by  the  Catalan  Modernist  architect,  Lluís  Domènech  i  Montaner.  It  has  symbolic  and  sentimental  value  to  a  city  that’s  proud  of  its  history  and  the  role  it  plays  in  Barcelona’s  cultural  scene.    The  workmanship  and  ambiance  are  exquisite  and  uplifting.

1:45  –  3:00  AM   Innovation  in  Furniture  Design:  Jaime  Tressera  Clapés Meet  the  designer  of  this  classically  beautiful  furniture  line  that  was  described  as  “works  that  seduce  for  the  beauty  of  their  forms,  the  fine  quality  of  their  materials  and  the  delicacy  of  the  finishes.”    Hear  first-­‐hand  how  he  was  influenced  growing  up  amid  a  family  of  actors  and  fashion  designers  that  imbued  him  with  the  special  sensibility  that  infuses  his  work.
