According to Harry Dahlstrom, author of The Job Hunting Handbook, many employers are spending more time on the phone with job applicants.

Instead of a short phone call to invite you to a job interview, many hiring managers are now using that phone call to conduct a mini job interview. It’s a faster, easier way for them to sort through their huge pile of good applicants and invite only the best people to an interview. So, be prepared for that phone call. Create a packet for each employer you applied to. Keep those packets in a folder and keep the folder near your phone. Include the following items in each employer packet.

workone youth Careeradvisors Create success

“Success is unabashedly linked to success.” This quote is from a story “10 reasons why some people love what they do” by David DiSalvo at www.forbes.com. It’s a great explanation of high functioning people, and is a glimpse into the ebb and flow of WorkOne offices. From Career Advisors to the customers they serve, success builds upon and grows from other successes. True success is never greedy, selfish, or exclusive. It is enthusiastically shared.

WorkOne offices have both adult and youth programs to help people develop resumes, interview skills and job search

skills. Youth Career Advisors enroll qualifying youth, ages 16-21, and begin building successes for those youth. Not only do the youth who walk into the WorkOne experience multiple successes by completing goals, they often tell their friends, parents, and neighbors about their success. A friend or family member will then see the successes and enroll with WorkOne to begin working toward their own goals.

The youth Career Advisors at WorkOne also love to see each of their youth clients succeed – they know it means the people in their communities are getting a great opportunity to attain the

skills they need to get a better job, receive better benefits, and build a solid path to a brighter future. They also realize they are a part of a unique team which is developing a more highly educated, skilled, and competent workforce for local employers.

WorkOne Career Advisors are extremely passionate about their jobs and inspiring the youth that come into the offices. As one youth Career Advisor states, “I have had clients call and thank me for giving them opportunities no one has ever given them or believing in them to finish a job or training. I have had several

coworkers say this kid needs you and your help. I am honest and hold the kids accountable and I don’t think some kids have ever had an adult do that for them. I truly love working with youth!”

If you are between the ages of 16 and 21 and are looking with assistance to map out a career plan or need funds for training and education, contact your local workone and ask to speak to a career advisor—it’s no cost to you and they are always happy to help! See the back panel of this publication for a full listing of WorkOne locations.
