ROLE DESCRIPTION

Job title: Triage Officer

Responsible to: Triage Team SGTResponsible for: No staff directly supervisedContacts: Police officers and police staff

Role: Through flexible and committed team work provide a robust triage service to all incoming intelligence and requested tasks for FIB in line with internal procedures by Force threat and risk.

When required, act as the point of contact for real time intelligence, making assessments based on the threat and risk in line with internal procedures as to the necessary course of action.

Provide support to FIB briefing and tasking procedures, assisting in information gathering and document production.

Duties Responsibilities

Operational Day: Assessment of all incoming intelligence inputs and task requests based upon threat and risk to prioritise to the appropriate FIB team for action.

Take responsibility for gate keeping for the force intelligence gateway, allocating tasks as appropriate and raising issues of risk to line management as required.

To use existing guidelines to determine appropriate action. To apply risk based decision making with regard to the processing of

information.

Operational Night: To assist colleagues in the preparation and presentation of tasking and briefing reports.

As required, take responsibility for proactive intelligence development using sensitive sources which may include Phone analysis, financial analysis and CHIS intelligence, this may require applications via COPS and/or cycComms systems when necessary.

As required, take responsibility for prioritising and assessing intelligence tasking during silver, spontaneous silver and critical incident support, this may entail allocating tasks to others and tracking progress.

As required, take responsibility for ensuring that audits and reviews of information are completed and compliant with Record Review, Retention and Deletion requirements of the ACPO Code of Practice on the Management of Police Information. Ensure that systems are updated and accurate as a result of the audits and reviews performed.

As required, assist in the identification, assessment and management of force intelligence using appropriate research and data collection techniques.

As required, provide a force systems and intelligence update service. As required, interrogate computerised information systems as required,

obtaining information and intelligence. As required, analyse data to formulate intelligence and disseminate to

appropriate staff.
