lettersfrom the chair
from the president2015 was a fabulous year for the ADP and its member businesses! I trust that you took full advantage of all the ADP has to offer. If not, be sure to do so in 2016 as your involvement may generate leads for your business and you will be giving back to the community that we all call home. Our chamber of commerce and economic development programs and services are top notch and quite frankly compare favorably against our peer organizations in much larger communities. You should be proud to be part of your local chamber as we strive to be an advocate for growing member businesses.
Are you interested in helping elevate our educational initiatives, grooming future leaders, learning more about servanthood leadership, interacting with your legislators, encouraging diversity in the workplace, creating jobs for area citizens, participating in festivals and other events that add to our region’s quality of life, stepping up for our military, and learning more about building relationships and marketing your business? If so, then there is no better place to invest your time than with the ADP. Your ADP ROI is directly correlated to your involvement. Spend time with us. I know that you will enjoy it and your efforts will pay dividends for your company.
We’ll start 2016 off with a bang as Dr. James Davis, CEO, World LEADERS Group, joins us from Florida to discuss the importance of servanthood leadership and the difference that servant leaders are making in their respective organizations. A big part of what we want to do is offer programs that help you get better, which in turn helps your business prosper.
I know that you will enjoy reading about Sofidel, our newest corporate citizen. This familyowned company will invest millions over the next five years and will hi e many local folks. Your ADP economic development team worked with numerous companies in 2015 that chose to invest here and in fact an unprecedented $400 million in new capital expenditures were announced in the 4th quarter of 2015. Our region is thriving and as a member and investor, you are playing a key role in ensuring a prosperous future for Greater Hattiesburg. Thank you for your investment!

I am honored to serve as chairman of the ADP this year. As a descendant of early settlers of this area, I am extremely proud of the growth and development our community has seen, and look forward to many great things to come. I am also proud of how ADP members support each other. Your fellow members have invested in the ADP to maintain community vibrancy and your patronage of their businesses is a great sign of your appreciation.
With the development of Midtown, the Forrest-Lamar Eagle One Mega Site, and various other projects currently in the pipeline, I am optimistic about the future of our community. You can be part of this growth through your membership with the ADP. The various programs and services offered by the Area Development Partnership provide opportunities for your company to engage with others, grow professionally, and invest in our communities’ future. Let’s grow together in 2016.

Greater Hattiesburg is soon to become home to another leading international manufacturing company with the addition of Sofidel America.
Sofidel is a privately held paper p oducts producer and converter headquartered in the Tuscany region within close proximity to Florence, Italy. The North American Division of the company, Sofidel America,is headquartered in Philadelphia, PA, and operates production facilities in Haines City, FL; Green Bay, WI; Henderson, NV and Tulsa, OK. Plans were recently announced for Sofidel toacquire the newly constructed 400,000 sq. ft. Green Bay Converting (GBC) building in the Hattiesburg-Forrest County Industrial Park. GBC opted to remain in its current Hattiesburg facility, making way for Sofidel to locate he e as well.
Sofidel America began moving into their Hattiesbu g facility in November and will ramp up production in early 2016. Sofidel America plans to invest up to$120 million in the local facility over the next fiveyears, while hiring between 230-260 employees.
Mayor Johnny DuPree, City of Hattiesburg, stated, “Having a global manufacturer choose Hattiesburg is an honor and will create quality jobs for years to come. We welcome Sofidel as our newest
corporate citizen and look forward to a long-standing relationship.”
David Hogan, President, Forrest County Board of Supervisors, commented, “We are very excited to have Sofidel locate a world-class manufacturingfacility in Forrest County. This is a family owned company based in Italy and I’m confident thecompany will be a great fit he e.”
According to Tony Curtis, CEO, Sofidel AmericaCorp., “A location in Greater Hattiesburg made sense due to quality available real estate being ready for immediate occupancy, the pro-business environment found here, and the skilled workforce available to operate an advanced manufacturing facility. Certainly proximity to our customer base was another key consideration.”
Sofidel is a global leader in the field of sanitarand domestic paper production. Founded in 1966, the company operates in 13 countries across Europe and the USA – with 5,500 employees in 29 production facilities generating annual revenue exceeding $2 billion. The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the respect of forest resources and energy use and the reduction of water consumption are all pillars of performance in Sofidel’s p oduction processes.
legislative forumWhere Good Policy is Great For Business
As a business professional, it can be difficult to keepup with the current legislative issues affecting our state. However, policies passed by the legislature can have a tremendous impact on our businesses, schools, infrastructure, and communities.
The ADP’s Legislative Forum provides members with a high-level overview of the current issues being addressed by the Mississippi Legislature. During each of the two sessions, local senators and representatives participate in a panel discussion on hot-button topics, with time for audience questions at the end.
The first session of the 2016 Legislative Forum isslated for Monday, January 11th. Participants for this session include: Senators Billy Hudson and John Polk, and Representatives Toby Barker, Larry Byrd, Chris Johnson, and Bill Pigott. The 6 panelists will discuss their personal legislative agendas for the upcoming session, along with issues specifically impactingGreater Hattiesburg.
The second session will take place on March 21st and will include: Senators Juan Barnett and Joey Fillingane, and Representatives Roun McNeal, Brad Touchstone, and Percy Watson.
Both sessions will take place at the Trent Lott National Center at The University of Southern Mississippi from 7:00 - 8:30 a.m.

2015 Ambassadorof the year
small but mightyHonoring Hattiesburg’s Outstanding Small Businesses
The Small Business Leadership Award was established by William Carey University and the Area Development Partnership in 1990 to recognize the important contributions small businesses make to the economic, social and cultural life of the community and the particular achievements of one individual or family. The award is given in memory of Dr. Joe Roberts, former professor of communications at William Carey University. Dr. Roberts was also a successful businessman and one of the founders of Aycock-Roberts Furniture.
The Small Business Leadership Award recognizes outstanding ADP-member small businesses within Greater Hattiesburg. These businesses have helped pave the way for the area through community involvement, leadership and exceptional service. Small businesses make up an integral part of the Area Development Partnership, and Greater Hattiesburg as a whole. Their contributions may seem small when compared with those of our area’s top employers, but they are certainly not overlooked.
If you know a small business deserving of this recognition, please submit their name for consideration. Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2016 Small Business Leadership Award. You can nominate a small business at www.TheADP.com. All nominations must be received by 5:00 p.m. on February 26, 2016. Candidates may self-nominate.

LEADERSHIP PINEBELTNominate an Up-and-Coming Leader in Your Company

Leadership Pinebelt encourages the nomination of emerging community leaders who have demonstrated leadership in their chosen field, whohave exhibited interest and commitment to the welfare of the Greater Hattiesburg Area of Forrest, Lamar, and Perry Counties, and who have the potential for exercising substantial leadership in the future. Every effort will be made to ensure that the program reflects the diversity of the community.

The ADP will, upon receipt of this form, send an application to the nominee to obtain information necessary for consideration. Multiple nominations are encouraged.
Leadership PInebelt is not for the faint of heart. This rigorous program spans eight months, and attendance is required for each session. YOUNG PROFESSIONALSGiving and Growing in Greater Hattiesburg
Pine Belt Young Professionals’ (PBYP) mission is to provide opportunities for young professionals to connect to each other and the community. The 100+ member organization accomplishes this through hosting events that encourage networking, professional development and community service.
Throughout 2015, Pine Belt Young Professionals have learned from various speakers on topics such as civic engagement, entrepreneurship, community involvement, service, and more. The group also participated in many community events such as Live at 5, The Hattiesburg Historic Neighborhood Association’s Halloween Parade, and most recently, The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program.
This year, Pine Belt Young Professionals kicked off their annual service with The Salvation Army by hosting their “Blue Plate” lunch at the Salvation Army’s Hattiesburg facility. Lt. Stacey Connely spoke to the group about the many services provided in
Hattiesburg and the mission of The Salvation Army. Lt. Connely also addressed some of the gaps and current needs in Greater Hattiesburg.
Following the lunch, PBYP was given a private tour of the facility, including the on-site homeless shelter. Many members of the group were humbled by the circumstances of those who use the facility, but expressed hope and gratitude for the work of The Salvation Army.
In December, PBYP hosted a Tacky Christmas Sweater Party to collect toys for the Angel Tree program, and was proud to donate a car filled withtoys to local children in need.
