intelligence; and the level of spiritual intelligence can also be measured and expressed as Spiritual Quotient as SQ( like IQ and EQ).

This is the intelligence used to solve the problem of meaning and value.

We are essentially spiritual being trying to have human experience by

asking certain fundamental questions;

Spiritual Intelligence motivates people to balance their work schedules to spend time with the family (as spirituality demands expression of higher values, feelings and emotions in everyday

life).

An executive with high SQ might look beyond profit margins and devote time for voluntary work

with orphans.

Spiritual Intelligence also addresses the need to perceive our lives in a broader and larger

perspective as all of us are one part of the nature & all of us are Sons& Daughters of one Mother

Earth.

A very narrow and constricted view of our individual lives denotes a very low level of SQ.

THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF SQ DISTINGUISHES IT FROM IQ AND SQ

IQ primarily solves logical problems.

EQ allows us to judge the situation we are in and behave appropriately.

SQ allows us to ask if we want to be in that situation in the first place.

IQ and EQ is selfishness oriented and it relates to ‘ I ’ only. But SQ is pure intelligence without limitations

imposed by selfish interest.

HIGHER SPIRITUAL TRUTHS ARE TO BE EXPERIENCED

We may talk and reason all our lives, but cannot understand a word of

Truth unless we experience it ourselves.

event in your life?5. Do you feel the inner need to be with Nature to calm yourself and commune with Natural phenomena?6. Do you feel the urge to pick up books, or articles, on religious, spiritual or metaphysical subjects, whenever you

see them?7. Do you feel the urge to ask God’s help, whenever any situation in your life seems to be out of your control?8. Would you like to go on a holiday to a place of pilgrimage to provide joy to your mind, body and spirit, in a

composite manner?9. If you suddenly heard a piece of devotional music, would it touch an unseen chord in your soul?10. If somebody you know, or do not know, needs help, whether physically, financially or emotionally, does an

instinctive urge spring from within your heart to provide whatever succour you one capable of giving?Give yourself 10 points for every ‘Yes’, 0 points for every ‘No’, and 6 points for every answer that you give as

‘Sometimes’. Add the score and the sum will give you an idea of your level of spiritual intelligence.

SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCES OF SPIRITUAL INTELLIGENCE

In the early 1990’s research was carried out by neuropsycholigist Michel Persinger, and more recently, in 1997, by neurologist v.s. Ramachandran and his team at the University of California, on the existence of a “God Spot” in the human brain. This built-in spiritual centre is located among neural connections in the temporal lobes of the brain. On scans taken with position emission topography these neural areas light up whenever research subjects are exposed to discussion of spiritual or religious topics.The work of Austrian neurologist Wolf singer in the 1990’s on ‘the binding problem’ shows that there is a neural process in the brain devoted to unifying and giving meaning to our experience – a neural process that literally ‘binds’ our experience together.
