Have a timetable so each subject is given adequate revision time. Make sure your timetable takes into account when exams/assessments are (don’t be revising for the latest exam first and forget it all!) Plan to work in small amounts of time – half an hour max! When that time is up, take a quick break AWAY from your revision materials (grab a drink, stretch your legs etc). Decide what you will cover during these chunks and stick to your plan – don’t try to cover too much too fast or it will not sink in! Make sure you still have revision free days or evenings or else you will get sick of studying and are more likely to give in! Make sure you are organised, ready to revise and away from any distractions (i.e. phones!)

We learn…

10% of what we read.

20% of what we hear.

30% of what we see.

50% of what we see AND hear.

70% of what we discuss.

80% of what we experience e.g.

trying it ourselves.

95% of what we teach others.

Remember this when you’re revising – why not try teach

another member of your family what you’re learning

about!

The key skills we look for in assessments:

Justification – being able to say why and back your

ideas up (try the P.E.E. formula to help).

Evaluation – you can stand where you wish in any topic

to do with PHSRE as it is all about personal

interpretation BUT in assessments you’ve got to be

able to look at both sides and weigh things up.

Concluding – at the end of any assessment we want to

know where you stand and WHY.

The Parable of the Sheep and Goats.

At the end of the world everybody will stand in

front of God and he will separate people like a

shepherd separates his sheep from the goats.

He will put the sheep on his right and the goats

on his left.

Then Jesus will say to those on his right “Come

to Heaven with me because when I was hungry

you gave me something to eat, when I was

thirsty you gave me a drink, when I was a

stranger you invited me in and when I needed

clothes, you clothed me. When I was sick, you

cared for me and when I was in prison you came

to visit me! “

Then Jesus will say to those on his left

“You are cursed and will go to Hell to be

with the Devil and his angels. When I

was hungry you gave me nothing to eat,

when I was thirsty you gave me nothing

to drink and when I was sick and in

prison you did not look after me”

Those who are selfish and keep

all their wealth for themselves.

Those who not help

others in need.

Those who do not give to charity.

Those who are

not kind.

People who do not care about

the feelings of others.

Those who will

not help when

someone suffers.

Those who share and think of helping

others. Those who give to charity

or to those less fortunate.

Those who are kind.

Those who think of other

peoples feeling before acting.

Those who will help

when it is needed.

Those who will help

Baptism in water is an outward symbol of something

happening on the inside. It is the sign that sins are

cleaned away.

Some Christians believe people should only be baptised

when they are old enough to understand what they are

doing and make the choice to follow Jesus for

themselves. Other Christians think that it is right to

baptise children of Christian parents. They would say

that it is not right to exclude babies and very young

children from being in the Christian family just

because they can't yet understand

At the baptism service the Vicar asks the Parents and Godparents

questions, and they have to make promises on behalf of the baby in front

of all the family and guests at the service.

When a baby is baptised in an Anglican service, the Vicar will usually

sprinkle water on his or her head and draws a cross in water on the baby's

forehead, as a sign of the child's new life with Christ. The Vicar takes the

water from the font and holds the baby over the font to catch the water.

The baby is given its name.

A candle is often lit during the service, and the light from the candle

shows that baptism is a symbol of a person moving from darkness into

light.

The light from the candle also followers of Jesus to shine like a light in

the world, and to be an example to others who do not know Jesus.

Afterwards there is often a party for the friends and family. Sometimes

people may give the child being baptised a card or a present.

Aqiqah and

it is done.

Baptism and

reasons why it

is done.

Arguments why

both might not be

done.

Some people day people should

wait until they are old enough to

understand becoming part of a

religion. (others argue that if

that happens they miss out on a

childhood as part of a religion)

Some people may

not believe in god

so they choose

not to have a

birth ceremony.

In the first part of the ceremony the baby’s hair has

to be shaved off to symbolise the baby being purified.

The Imam showed the father how to do this, then the

mother held the baby while the husband did the

shaving. The hair was weighed. The family, if they can

afford it, give an equivalent amount of gold or silver to

a charity which helps people in need.

Baby boys are circumcised. Muslims usually carry out

this simple operation as part of initiation. After all

this had been done, a meal was provided for the

guests.

The name may be one of the prophets who lived before

Muhammad, who are named in the Qur’an or it may be

one of the 99 names of Allah.

Girls may also be named in a similar way, the name

maybe chosen from a list of well-known Muslim women,

e.g., Fatima, Aisha, etc.

On the birth of a Muslim child it was the custom to

sacrifice 2 sheep if their child was male and 1 it was

female. The father observed this custom by asking a

Muslim butcher to slaughter 2 sheep and then

arranged for the met to be given to poor families. This

is a way of saying ‘thank you’ for the gift of a child.
