ecology, economics – provider BSc, MSc, PhD, Doctor degrees (80 years!)2) WMO RTC (university component in the RF)3) About 350 staff (lecturers and researchers)4) More than 4500 students (incl. 350 from 40 countries)5) In 2010 the leading university of the RF (more than 50 scientific project of the Federal Programmes in climate change, management, waste treatment and utilization, physics of atmosphere and hydrosphere, applied ecology)
The Sixth Eumetcal international workshop, 30 Nov 2010
RSHU is
1) S&R, belongs to the Roshydromet2) Since 1920 is the oldest and the largest Russian research institution in
the field of comprehensive studies of the Polar Regions3) Supervision PhD and Doctoral research, collecting the data
The Sixth Eumetcal international workshop, 30 Nov 2010
AASRI is
• 17 Scientific Departments and Laboratories, • Center of Ice and Hydrometeorological Information, • World Data Center-B on sea ice, • Russian Antarctic Expedition, • Scientific research and experimental base: the station in the Arctic and
Antarctic, "Ladozhskaya" and "Gorkovskaya" Stations (near St.Petersburg), research vessels including the unique icebreaker "Academic Fedorov", specific ice tank, experimental producing complex for design and production of research devices
The Sixth Eumetcal international workshop, 30 Nov 2010
AASRI has
• complex development of basic scientific knowledge about the processes in the A&A (ice cover, ocean, island water, river estuaries, atmosphere, upper atmosphere, ionosphere) and their interactions;
• collection, analysis and distribution of the data on conditions of the environment incl. antropogenic impact, climate changes etc;
• hydro-meteorological, hydrophysical and ecological provision of activities of the RFin Polar regions including works on Arctic shelves;
• complex scientific research in the A&A using research vessels, aircraft, polar stations and other available facilities;
• training of hight-skilled scientific staff.

AASRI and RSHU Training and scientific centre “Polar university”Joint MSc programme “Polar Hydro-Meteorology”
There are 3 course: «Polar Oceanography», «Climate of Polar Regions» и «Sea Ice», and supervision of the graduation thesis and obligatory training/probation period(ppt. and audio-visual materials, on-line materials)
Methodical materials contains such info as:detailed topics for theoretical and practical parts of each course (incl. aims and learning outcomes)students working load expressed in ac. hourslist of references, and detailed statement about what student must know, able to do, demonstrate and understand after completion of each course

AASRI and RSHU within the frames of the International Polar Year and
upon a decision of Roshydromet launched new joint project
<<POLAR VIRTUAL UNIVERSITY>>is
the scientific and education portal oriented on outreach activities in the field of environmental problems of high
latitudes
Target groups are: students of SSs and HEIs, scientists and researchers in the field of Polar Regions and
population at large
The portal has a set of training flash modules and lessons developed together with the leading
scientists-polar explorers which contains results of scientific researches and interesting facts
Amount of Russian modules constantly increases
Final aim is structured specialized MSc programme …..Problems related…..

EDUCATIONAL SECTION
The Sixth Eumetcal international workshop, 30 Nov 2010
INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
Cooperation with the COMET giving possibility of translation
and adaptation of teaching materials on polar latitudes
from English to Russian is also considered to be effective and
promising
MoU between RSHU and Eumetnet
-is going to be signed
-would contribute a lot to further development of the project (staff expertise, individual course elements on a case-by-case basis)
