  • The cartoon: Proposal textFor this proposal, we plan to hire an animation undergraduate student from the UWs Center for Digital Art and Experimental Media to produce a 2.5 - 3 minute animation under staff guidance in APLs Multimedia Laboratory for project coordination and script writing. The narrator will be Pat the Plankton, who will discuss the controls of PP in the AO, i.e. light (snow/ice, clouds, ocean stratification) and nutrients, and how this might change in future climate scenarios.

The project will begin at the Year 2 Seattle PI meeting (NOW!) and end in Year 3. This animation will be accessible at the websites of APL, BLOS (www.bigelow.org), as part of its DLESE-linked educational products and linked to the BLOS web-based modules for Phytopia, a teacher-acclaimed CD-ROM teaching tool, and ASLO (http://www.aslo.org/education/ teaching.html).

  • The cartoon: Nitty gritty Cartoon Qs: What are the controls? Is it a documentary (possibly narrated by Pat as s/he interviews other plankton)? Or is it a story (wherein Pat has an adventure of some kind, illustrating life under the sea ice)? Distribution Qs: How will this REALLY be used, i.e., WHO IS OUR AUDIENCE?
