Water MuseumCultural Equipment - Ohm Island_Fictitious place

Project executed in Architecture I class. It was proposed the elaboration of a Water Museum located on a ficti-tious island. There are exhibition areas, observation and support areas. The exercise had as a starting point the use of two cubes (5x5 and 8x8) and a cylinder with 2.5m radius.

Maritime Studies CenterEquipment|Education|Exhibition - Nevogilde_Porto

Project concluded in Architecture I class. Standing over the Atlantic Ocean on Oportos promenade, it consists on an equipment destined to the study of the sea. Its composed by study rooms, library, an exhibition gal-lery, a bar|cafeteria and a temporary residence.

Benzoni HouseHousing|Equipment|Exhibition - Massarelos_Porto

Housing for the Italian artist Luigi Ben-zoni with a working studio and an exhi-bition area. It is located in the slope of Palcio de Cristal, overseeing Douro River. Surrounded by the ancient ro-mantic paths, the volume intends to merge itself in the locations morpholo-gy, and it develops organically before it.

House of MusiciansHabitat|Equipment - Boavista_Porto

Exercise concluded in Architecture II class. Located in a vacant lot in Boavis-tas Rotunda, near Casa da Msica, its an equipment destined to accept, temporarily, musicians coming to per-form in Oporto. Its composed by small housing modules and by a complemen-tary support program.

Project elaborated for the 48 hour competition Go! Architecture. Con-sists in equipment destined to accept artists from all areas, with an exhibition and multipurpose area, small housing modules, and a meditation area. The place of location is near S. Bentos railway station. Its characterized by a slope with which the building intends to get along with and from which it con-ceptually grows.

Courtyard HousesMultifamily Housing - Boavista_Porto

Conceived in the scope of Architec-ture II class. It was given a proposition for the conception of housing units composed by patio modules. The site, near Boavistas Rotunda its defined by its trapezoidal shape. Surrounded by different realities and scales that the proposed buildings are supposed to mitigate and merge with, by snaking the land and adapting itselves whene-ver necessary. The proposed modules are of two types (T1, T2) in which the patio is torn in the middle dividing night and day functions.

This project executed in the Project I class, was an exercise of urban requali-fication of a block in Oportos historic area. The intervention was supposed to take place inside the block, with a housing program, equipments, and complementary services necessary to the zone. For this project were de-signed classrooms, exhibition gallery, day care centres, public an school gyms, library, art center, auditorium, medical centre, offices, shopping areas, restoration zones, multifamily housing and a students shelter in a reclassified existing building. The hou-sing modules are of three duplex types (H2, H3 H4) interspersed in a play of different rhythms and sizes, taken and based from the actual surrounding image.

Carvalhas HouseSingle Family Housing - Esmolfe_P. Castelo

(with M. Brs, D. Nogueira, E. Gonalves)

Housing for a friend located in a wavy slope of a protected area (REN and RAN). Surrounded by gigantic oaks, there was a pre existing housing in ru-ins and an agricultural threshing-floor. The project beheld the use of the pre- existing ruin and its magnification. The program was composed by 4 rooms, office, living-room, dinning-room, kit-chen, cellar, functional spaces and a garage, distributed by three volumes that are developed from a central pa-tio marked by a rock. The pre-existing volume becomes the connector bet-ween the two proposed volumes and the localization of the housing access and distribution.

Pixel CityUrban Plan - Francos|Arrbida_Porto

Developed during Project II class, this project beheld a wide territory with a central problem caused by the urban cut VCI (Belt highway) originated, being created several passages and green areas to soften the barrier. The proj-ect includes the creation of multi and single family housing, shopping and of-fice areas, as well as cultural, sports, health and teaching equipments. The project was conceived from a concept of radial explosion composed by million of pixels that create all space organi-zation, either from the empty spaces as from the built spaces. These pixels are filling and adapting itselves to the pre existing urban and morphological reality, giving origin to an area of pure usufruct and human experience.

Ambulatory Clinical CenterMedical Equipment - Boavista_Porto

This project comes as a consequence of Pixel Urban Plan. We were proposed the creation of an Ambulatory Chirur-gic Centre and a Physiatry Rehabilita-tion Centre. The volumetric creation comes from the basic structure of the previous proposal and connects itself to the direct influence of the surround-ing buildings. This combination crea-tes all the buildings geometry. The volumes are always direct accordingly to the radial mesh and fragmented and limited by the under mesh. The com-position is completed by seven higher volumes that comprehend all the main functions united by a base that con-nect all the functions, circulations and common areas.

Camaridos Cultural CenterCultural Equipment - Cristelo_Caminha

Final Course Project, in the scope of Project II class, and study case of the masters degree proposed disser-tation. This cultural centre was cre-ated in consequence of local needs of an equipment of this sort. A space of liberty, training, and cultural divulga-tion. This project comes inserted in a unique natural surrounding, between a centennial forest (Camarido) and River Minho creating the transition between those natural masses and the existing urban mesh. Volumes appear as big ships moored alongside the location. This symbolism is due to the impor-tance of fishing activities in the area. The volumetric pieces grow from a tectonic movement created by the imposing strength of the surrounding environment, looking from the outside like great solid masses, in which the in-terior is fragmented designing empty spaces that give limits to the functional areas, like working studios, workshops, exhibition galleries, theatre, cinema, li-brary, an environmental interpretation centre and a teaching pole, making it a cultural engine.

Culture Now_The Equipment as a Cultural Engine

Master Degree Thesis (abstract)

Caminha is a territory consisting of a wide variety of landscapes, resul-ting from many different factors ranging from the uniqueness of the surrounding scenery to the natural diversity, such as water lines that crisscross the land, the ocean, mountains and valleys, and to his enor-mous patrimonial, historical and cultural estate, being these characte- ristics and qualities which describe the whole culture and local people, fundamental for the style and quality of life and for his enormous tourist interest level.

There is a lack of equipments for cultural programming, creation, know-ledge and awareness of all aspects that surround us, like the environ-ment, ecological systems and energies, that are both locally and glo- bally, important aspects of a awareness and sustained growing. What will be the capacity and role of Architecture through the cultural building on the alert for human consciousness to the issues surrounding it and as a motor and generator of culture and knowledge.

As creation of Man, the architecture is one of the primary means to claim and spread its values and expressions, both individual and collec-tive, of his will, history, society and culture, from its beginnings to the modern world, living in their lines, styles and features of the civilization history, being the way of interpretation and manipulation a position of freedom of thought that makes architecture a cultural phenomenon.

The Cultural Centers are privileged spaces of cultural action, living nuc- leus of activity, creation and meeting, places for free flow of ideas and thoughts, images and sounds, rich in experiences, drivers of new looks on the world, challenging the skills and abilities that are proper to us as human beings. The creation of the Cultural Center of Camarido wants to be an engine of regional culture, an optimizer of the territory and all the areas that are intrinsic and an important factors in raising aware-ness and Consciousness of the population.
