drawingson right are Sprint Stores I took part in; drawings show floor plan and storefront elevations and details.

creativitywas an encouraged aspect of Interbrand Design Forum. I, along with another co-worker, saved every cardboard printer roll after changing the firm printer, every week I would change the design of cardboard tubes in my cubible. The photo on the left, shows a cubicle log cabin design featuring card-board tubes with paper joints, fedex boxes

and a bearcat flag.

culture“Interbrand Design Forum is a place where experts from complementary disciplines exchange ideas in pursuit of the best retail solution for your brand. It’s a down-to-earth culture. We check our egos at the door, roll up our sleeves, and devote our collective energy to our clients’ success.”

servicesinclude brand strategy, shopper sciences, retail design, digital development, documentation and rollout.

clientslisted on right. I focused heavily on the desig, documentation, and roll-out of Jo-Ann and Sprint Stores, as well as CNBC, Honda, P&G, and Salt Lake City Airport Stores.

program includes a university building featuring cook-ing, audio visual, and fashion departments.

planescreate spaces for occupant activities.

frames create dividers between departments.

masses create dividers between interior and exterior.

orthogonalpieces create non-orthogonal spaces.

the sky is the limitexpresses imagination pushing out against exterior walls of the building. The north facade appears to be a ladder climbing up to the sky, as imagination is endless. North glazed facade has built in bookshelves, tables, and a cave in the imagination station.

flow is an imaginative current that travels throughout the building. With a central core, the imagination pushes against the exterior walls, and bulges the fritted skylight, much like our afraid minds when we are called to be creative in writing or reading. This building helps break down those barriers, letting true imagination shine.

flowvs logicpredictionof a library grid of bookshelves, desks, and computers, is often experienced when entering a typical library, but in the clifton literary center, flow embraces visitors by the pure fascination of the imagination station seen throughout the building.

reduction of the skylight allows for a more controlled lighting for studying and computer screens.

southern slanted skylight allows light to hit suspended ribs, creating grid shadows.

entering the the library, the newly soft color reflection in the study area will hint ceiling level changes.

run-down neighborhood of Over the Rhine, Findlay Market’s colorful charm attracts thousands of visitors. Findlay Market creates an alive and upbeat impression on its visitors. In contrast, the area surrounding Findlay Market, like the rest of Over the Rhine, has many buildings that are vacant, run down, and boarded up.

overtherhineanalysis

“Keep Cincinnati Beautiful” has painted colorful murals on the boarded up doors and windows of Over the Rhine’s buildings. To keep the steady outsiders coming to Findlay Market, this group has focused their efforts on places around Findlay Market more so than the rest of Over the Rhine. Adding color to the boarded up openings surrounding Findlay Market creates a warm welcome to visitors.

diversity of design is researched in this light-manipulated recyclable design.

humanitarianwork

new orleans on the left, is a destination striving to connect community. I, along with a group, helped make way for a neighborhood community center by fixing up an old, run-down building. We also cleaned the community park, and helped with many neighbors’ lawns and homes.

el salvadoron the right, was a big culture shock. There we dug 6’x6’ holes to make way for septic tanks. Also we dug a new foundation for a new block home, as well as spackled an existing building. I have learned from this experience, someone can have very little, and yet be perfectly content with their life status.
