NATURE DWELLING

SITE LOCATION: Guardamar Del Segura, Spain.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: To develop a design that incorporates a modern intervention next to the Islamic and Phoenician ruins located on the dunes. Intervention consist of an exten-sion of Guardamar’s Archeology Museum (MAG) and a Nature Dwelling, and inclusion of sustainable elements.
PROPOSAL: At present, archeologists have explored less than 20% of the site; therefore the proposal for the program calls for a design that does not harm the ruins. The exterior wall that served as the protection of the Islamic civiliza-tion remains uncovered, therefore there is a need to preserve this area, and thus the proposal for the inter-vention is to build additional ‘architectural’ walls along the perimeter of the original Islamic wall. This ‘wall’ would also house the program of the Nature Dwelling and MAG extension, with incorporated sustainable design strategies such as natural ventilation and solar panels.

URBAN ACTIVITY CENTER

SITE LOCATION: SOMA San Francisco, Ca.
PROPOSAL: Inspired by a case study on precast concrete with inserted water pipes used for heating and cooling buildings. This urban center consists of precast concrete towers that serve as the main structural core and also houses the mechanical, electrical, and piping equipment of the building. The exterior skin incorporates sustainable design by utilizing operable solar panels on the south and southwest façades. SOFTWARE: Revit Architecture, Rhino, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: The premise of the Urban Activity Center is somewhat intentionally open-ended, and embodies the ideal that urban life provides a continually shifting set of needs, and continu-ally evolving infrastructures that support those needs. The program is an un-constructed combination of recreation center, athletic facility, community center, parking garage, class-room, and park. These uses tend to occur in the gap that exists somewhere between ‘home’ and ‘city’, and begin to potentially operate at the middle scale of ‘neighborhood’ or ‘district’.
