Gianas essays in an architectural theory class her second-year were thoughtful, penetrating, and sophisticated, as well as being well-crafted from a literary standpoint. They indicated a mind that was far more mature than the typical college sophomore. Thus, I was quite pleased to discover that she was interested in participating in our schools four month program in India in the Spring of 2013 that I guided that term. When you spend four months with people in relatively close quarters, you get to know them pretty well. I discovered that Giana is just as thoughtful and perceptive as an architectural designer as she is as a writer and that she is also a wonderful person. Giana adapted extraordinarily well to the many anomalous, bizarre, and often humorous situations we encountered. Giana is an accomplished soccer athlete. While in India, she regularly played soccer with the Indian students. In one of these games, she broke her toe. Given the peripatetic nature of an international study program, especially in a place like India, such an injury can clearly hamper ones mobility. Not Giana. She never complained, never asked for special consideration although it was offered. In sum, Giana Abballe is an absolute delight to have as a student. She is smart, inquisitive, serious, dependable, works well with others, can think and act independently, and has a positive attitude toward her work and life in general.

The D.T. Haus is composed of three separate systems: circulation, mass, and facade. The circulation path excavates the solid form as it winds through the structure, creating unity through the fragmented spaces. Natural light infiltrates these carved solids based on the system of perforations present on all five sides of the facade and roof. The synergy of these components envelops the visitor into a world of fragmented masses, as each system contributes an entity integral to the design of the D.T. Haus.

GLASS MUSEUM - MILLVILLE, NEW JERSEY RENOVATION & EXPANSION
Site InformationToday, Wheaton Arts consists of over 60 acres with 20 buildings. The Museum of American Glass houses over 7,000 objects, both historic and contemporary. The fully operational Glass Studio presents daily, interpretive demonstrations for the public with artists showing traditional and contemporary glassblowing techniques. In the Artist Studios artists demonstrate the traditional southern New Jersey crafts of pottery, wood and flameworking. The 1876 Centre Grove Schoolhouse, Museum Stores (General Store, Arthur Gorham Paperweight Shop, Brownstone Emporium and Boutique, Christmas Shop and The Gallery of Fine Craft) and the Event Center now complete the complex. The 100-room Country Inn by Carlson is located adjacent to WheatonArts.- Wheaton Arts webpage

Stepped Strength
[email protected] - XWHEATON ARTS
The existing campus of Wheaton Arts is extremely outdated and unattractive. Our project wasessentially to revive it as an attraction given certain program. Theres a main strip down through the center of the campus, but it remains a road to nothing. The site in its entirety is bare; very little built environment that is overwhelmed by emptiness. My proposal mainly attempts to tackle the issues of and bring to life the main strip and create connections between the existing buildings with in-between outdoor public spaces which is defined and shaped by the trellis and screens. The new program also included an extension to the already existing museum and additional storage which I made into an underground showcase, the new main strip. The rest of the new program was dealt with by relocation.
