Cuaderno del Padre Father’s Notebook
Greetings brothers and sisters in Christ, This week in many ways is the last week of Summer for
those who are preparing to return to school. It is a time
to move from vacation and back into a “normal” routine.
When I was in seminary studying for the priesthood, our
“normal” routine was very structured and disciplined. We
had Morning Prayer at 6:30 am, and then meditation
from 7:00-7:30 am. Then we went to breakfast, then off
to classes. In the middle of the day at noon, we had
Mass and then lunch together immediately following.
Then we had meetings with Formators/Directors who
gave us guidance and feedback on how to grow in our
human, spiritual, pastoral, and intellectual pillars of
Christian life. Then was Evening Prayer at 5:30 pm, and
sometimes adoration and then we had dinner. After
dinner, there were sometimes more meetings as well as
gatherings formal and informal. And somewhere in
between, you needed to study, read and write papers. On
the side there were also ministries we did outside of the
seminary once a week.
Needless to say, it was a full schedule. All of this is
meant to form a seminarian good habits of discipline
that will hopefully carry on into one’s priesthood and
ministerial life. Summer and Winter breaks was also, a
litmus test to see just how well we have developed those
habits. Like playing the piano, one needs to practice
scales, pieces and strengthen one’s fingers to be able to
play a beautiful piece well. Summer was a time to see if
all the disciplines have helped us live life well as
Christians.
It is good before we go back to a full daily schedule of
routine, to ask ourselves honestly, how has my Christian
habits been this summer? Was I successful in continuing
good habits of prayer, attending Sunday Mass and being
charitable to those in need? When I had more free time,
was it simply used for play more than pray? Time and
Freedom is no good, if it does not lead us to be free to
love God and neighbor more.
Now is the time to make some resolutions and plans to
stick disciplines and habit building activities back into
our schedule, so that next Summer will be better than
this past Summer. All of us have room to grow in
holiness, and through God’s grace, and responding
actively to his promptings can we become who God has
created us to be, Saints among Saints in the Halls of
Heaven.
Pax Christi, Fr. Khoi
Luego íbamos a desayunar, y después a
clases.
algún punto intermedio, necesitabas estudiar, leer y
Pax Christi,
Padre Khoi

SUNDAY MASS ATTENDANCE
Cardinal Daniel DiNardo issued a statement allowing all
parishes in the archdiocese to return to 100% capacity
with no social distancing required. Masks are no longer
mandatory inside the church but are still encouraged. All
masses are open to any age person for attendance.
However, please note, the suspension on the obligation
to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days remains
unchanged at this time. Masses will continue to be live
streamed until further notice. Sunday and daily masses
are being live streamed via our parish's Facebook page.
REMEMBER: If you are exhibiting any signs or symptoms
associated with the coronavirus, or have been exposed
to someone who is ill, PLEASE REMAIN AT HOME. This is
an act of charity to our friends and neighbors.
At this time we are still not passing the collection basket
but your donations are still needed and may be dropped
in the collection box at the entrance of the church or
brought to the parish office.
Hand sanitizer must be used upon entering the church.
Thank you for your patience and support throughout the
pandemic.

LITURGY 101 - THE FUNCTIONS OF THE PEOPLE OF GOD
In the celebration of Mass the faithful form a holy people, a people of
God’s own possession and a royal Priesthood, so that they may give
thanks to God and offer the unblemished sacrificial Victim not only by
means of the hands of the Priest but also together with him and so that
they may learn to offer their very selves. They should, moreover, take
care to show this by their deep religious sense and their charity toward
brothers and sisters who participate with them in the same
celebration.
They are consequently to avoid any appearance of singularity or
division, keeping in mind that they have only one Father in heaven and
that hence are all brothers or sisters one to the other. Moreover, they
are to form one body, whether in hearing the Word of God, or in taking
part in the prayers and in the singing, or above all by the common
offering of the Sacrifice and by participating together at the Lord’s
table. This unity is beautifully apparent from the gestures and bodily
postures observed together by the faithful.

Melissa Abraham, LMSW, is our new Parish
Counselor with Rejoice Counseling Apostolate.
After completing undergraduate studies at the
University of Houston and serving as a
missionary for a year, Melissa felt called to
pursue a Masters in Social Work at Baylor
University specializing in clinical social work to
respond to the great needs she encountered in
the mission field. During her time at Baylor she
worked with women struggling with addiction
and homelessness. She worked one on one
with them to gain appropriate skills to aid in
their sobriety and continue on their journey to
independence and freedom. She led group classes in different areas such as
coping skills, emotions, triggers and family history. She also works with individuals
dealing with grief, anxiety and depression. Melissa has devoted her life to the
Service of the Church, engaging in youth ministry and teaching about formation,
femininity, mental health, and a personal encounter with Jesus. She and her
husband are a part of Jesus Youth, an ecclesial movement in the Catholic Church.
In her free time Melissa is either sipping a coffee while working on her art,
exploring new recipes, finding ways to make spaces beautiful, or exploring
Houston. Learn more and schedule an appointment at

This year, the Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 19,
2021 under the theme of “Say the Word and My Soul Shall Be Healed.” On this day,
catechists are formally commissioned for ministry to the community. Catechetical
Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each baptized person
plays in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday
is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of
faith.
If you are interested in volunteering in Faith Formation Ministries as a Catechist or a
Catechist Aide, please contact Cheryl, Norma or the Faith Formation Office.
