Title: How Early Jazz and Improvisation in Australia Altered Topic: Music 1900 - 1945

While the basis for the topic of this essay is sound, the candidate has constructed an historic discussion that is heavily reliant upon secondary sources and does not acknowledge musical works from the period. While there is some specific terminology used in reference to jazz, it was not clearly explained. A limited understanding of the concepts of music is demonstrated, evidenced also by a lack of primary musical sources (scores or recordings). There is a limited bibliography that does not support the depth of research required from this topic.
