Dubai International Arabian Horse Championship 2014

A primavera appena iniziata si sta avviando nuova-mente nel Medio Oriente la stagione delle mostre dei cavalli arabi. Come ogni anno molti allevatori, concorrenti e giudici stanno appuntando un grande segno nel loro calendario per il mese di marzo che annovererà una delle più importanti manifestazioni al mondo, il Campionato Internazionale del Cavallo Arabo a Dubai.Questa è tra le più importanti competizioni per i cavalli purosangue Arabi, che mette in vetrina la loro bellezza, agilità ed il loro patrimonio genetico. Lo show si sviluppa nell’arco di 3 giorni che culmi-nano con il Campionato per classi per i cavalli più belli, che si sta svolgendo adesso per l’undicesima volta qui a Dubai.

In the early springtime it is starting again the sea-son of the Arabian horse shows in the Middle East. As every year many breeders, competitors and jud-ges are making a big mark in their calendar for March as there is one of the most important show all around the world, the Dubai International Ara-bian Horse Championship. It is on of the most important competition for Pu-rebred Arabian horses, showcasing their beauty, agility & heritage. It is run over 3 days culmi-nating in the Championship classes for the most exquisite horses and it is running now for the 11th time here in Dubai.Under the patronage of HH Sh. Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and

UAE Minister of Finance. Also this year it was a full packed Show Program with many internatio-nal people and horses. From the 20th to 22nd of March it was held at the wonderful Dubai Inter-national Convention and Exhibition Centre in the Centre part of Dubai, from where everyone had the possibility to take a look of the incredible city and enjoy the beach and the sea. The Dubai International Arabian Horse Cham-pionship is one of the most prestigious competition of its kind in the world and with the highest prize money of 4’000’000 Dollars in total.

Also this year it was the TOP FIVE regulation and there where this time 9 judges who did exchange each other form class to class, there was: Mr Doug Dahmen from USA, Mr Peter Gamlin from the UK, Mr Eric Gear from France, Mr Holger Ismer from Germany, Mr Murillo Kammer from Brazil, Mr Jo Polo from USA, Mr Francesco Santoro from Italy, Mrs Irina Stigler from Russia and Mrs Marianne

Sotto il patronato dello HH Sh. Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vicegovernatore di Dubai, e Ministro delle Finanza degli UAE. Anche quest’anno il pro-gramma della manifestazione è stato ricco di conte-nuti, con molte persone e cavalli provenienti da tutto il mondo. Lo show si è tenuto dal 20 al 22 marzo al Centro per le Esibizioni ed i Convegni Internazio-nali di Dubai, nel centro urbano, da dove ognuno ha avuto la possibilità di ammirare l’incredibile città e godersi la spiaggia ed il mare.Il Campionato Internazionale del Cavallo Arabo a Dubai è tra le competizioni più prestigiose al mon-do nel suo genere e acclude il più alto premio in de-naro della somma totale di ben 4.000.000 di dollari.

Anche quest’anno è stato adottato il regolamento I PRIMI CINQUE e questa volta ci sono stati 9 giudi-ci che si sono scambiati le figure, categoria dopo ca-tegoria, ed essi sono stati: Mr Doug Dahmen dagli USA, Mr Peter Gamlin dal UK, Mr Eric Gear dalla Francia, Mr Holger Ismer dalla Germania,

Tengstedt from Denmark.It was dominated form the men’s but all of them made good job and it was a very nice team. Again in this year Mr. Hassan Valsan was the Ring Ma-ster and he made a great job with all this handlers and horses.

This year the show started on Thursday with the filly foals which all was born in 2013. The winner of this class was one very nice filly bred and ow-ned by Ajman Stud her name was AJ Aryana (by AJ Portofino * MC Alexsis). Second was Rahafa Al Hawajer (by RFI Farid * Abby Gale LBA) bred and owned by Dr. Ghanem Mohamed Obaid Al Hajri and also Dr. Ghanem owns the third placed filly Arwa Al Hawajer (by RFI Farid * Gharnnoga Al Hawajer).

In the colt foal class from 2013 the lead went to Jassas Albidayer (by Marajj * Djoonam OS) bred and owned by Sheik Mohammed Bin Saud Al Qa-simi. The second and the third place went again to Dr. Ghanem with the two very nice colts Mandela Al Hawajer (RFI Farid * Jameelah Al Hawajer) and Mesk Al Hawajer (GM Justin * Lluckystar).

After this very nice foal classes the show started with the interesting yearling filly section A. The Top Five of this class was: 1. AJ Sayeda (by Vervaldee * Sweet Caroline LL) owned by H.H. In the section B of the yearling fillies the Top Five of the class was:1. Aj Sawari (by Marwan Al Shaqab * Siberia SA) owned by Ajman Stud2. D Nawal (by Royal Colours * D Noor) owned

Mr Murillo Kammer dal Brasile, Mr Jo Polo dagli USA, Mr Francesco Santoro dall’Italia, Mrs Irina Stigler dalla Russia e Mrs Marianne Tengstedt dalla Danimarca.Ha predominato la figura maschile ma tutti loro han-no fatto un buon lavoro ed è stata un’ottima squadra di valutazione. Anche quest’anno Mr. Hassan Val-san è stato il Direttore dello Spettacolo ed ha fatto un grande lavoro con tutti gli Handlers e i cavalli.

Quest’anno lo show è iniziato di giovedì con le pu-ledre femmine che sono nate tutte nel 2013. La vin-citrice di questa categoria è stata una puledra molto bella allevata e posseduta dall’Allevamento Ajman, il suo nome era AJ Aryana (AJ Portofino * MC Alexsis). Seconda è stata Rahafa Al Hawajer (di RFI Farid * Abby Gale LBA) allevata e posseduta dal Dr. Ghanem Mohamed Obaid Al Hajri ed anche il Dr. Ghanem che possiede la puledra terza classi-ficata Arwa Al Hawajer (di RFI Farid * Gharnnoga Al Hawajer).

Nella categoria puledri maschi del 2013 la vittoria è andata a Jassas Albidayer (di Marajj * Djoonam OS) allevato e posseduto da Sheik Mohammed Bin Saud Al Qasimi. Il secondo ed il terzo posto sono andati ancora al Dr. Ghanem con due puledri molto belli Mandela Al Hawajer (RFI Farid * Jameelah Al Hawajer) e Mesk Al Hawajer (GM Justin * Llu-ckystar).

Last but not least the last class of Thursday with the most spectacular points so fare. That Emando-ria she got 6 times 20 in type, 6 times 20 in head/ neck and 3 times 20 in movment which gave to her the most highest score of 94.90 points. Top Five of the mares 10 years and more:1. The first day of the Dubai International Arabian Horse Championship finished with very big clas-ses and high quality of fillies and mares which was showing to us the future and the past.

Friday afternoon we started again with the clas-ses of yearling colts and already with a very nice quality.Top Five section A yearling colts:1. In the morning of Saturday was judged the very strong sport classes in Racing and Endurance always separated in Mares/ Geldings and Stal-lions.In the mean time the sport classes was running all the people involved in the championships started to prepare them self and when you did entre the show ground you could already feel the power and the emotions going around nervously awaited the start of the championships.

Nella mattinata del sabato è stata valutata la cate-goria sportiva molto forte nella corsa e nella resi-stenza sempre suddivisa in cavalle/cavalli castrati e stalloni.Nel mentre la categoria sportiva si stava svolgendo, tutte le persone coinvolte nelle competizioni hanno iniziato a prepararsi, e quando si entrava sul terreno

delle esibizioni si potevano già percepire l’energia e le emozioni che pervadevano l’aria durante l’attesa stressante che separava dall’inizio delle varie gare.

Nella categoria puledre di un anno il titolo di pule-dra campionessa medaglia d’oro è stato assegnato a: AJ Sawari e a seguire AJ Sayeda allevate e posse-dute con orgoglio dal Ajman Stud. Puledra campio-nessa medaglia di bronzo è stata nominata la molto bella Magnolia NWA orgogliosamente posseduta ed allevata da Northwest Arabians-Ole Larsen.

Il puledro di un anno campione medaglia d’oro è stato Loay Al Khaledia Al Thani orgogliosamente posseduto ed allevato da HRH Price Khaled Bin Sultan Bin Abdulaziz. L’impressionante D Kattaf ha ottenuto la medaglia d’argento e la medaglia di bronzo è andata al molto bello D Mshary entrambi orgogliosamente allevati e posseduti dal Dubai Arabian Horse Stud.

Le campionesse femmine giovani sono state chiara-mente scelte dai giudici come segue:Puledra giovane campionessa medaglia d’oro – D Shahla orgogliosamente allevata e posseduta dal Dubai Arabian Horse StudPuledra giovane campionessa medaglia d’argento – Nastya OS posseduta dal Ajman StudPuledra giovane campionessa medaglia di bronzo – Delights Divah RB posseduta da Khalid Al Sayed.

La categoria maschi giovani campioni è stata l’uni-ca dove i giudici hanno scelto all’unanimità FA El Rasheem come chiaramente puledro giovane cam-pione medaglia d’oro, orgogliosamente posseduto e ben meritato dal Dubai Arabian Horse Stud.Il puledro giovane campione medaglia d’argento è stato Moharib Al Kazna posseduto da Ali Ghanem Ali Humaila Al Mazoui.Il titolo giovane campione medaglia di bronzo è an-dato a Magic of Shawan posseduto da Abdulazizi Bin Ibrahim Al Bargash.I due puledri FA El Rasheem e Magic of Shawan hanno reso molto orgoglioso FA El Shwan.

Between the Junior Championship and the Senior Championship we as waiting the arrival of his Hi-ghness Muhammad bin Raschid Al Maktum, after his arrival the senior championships started.

Il Titolo di cavalla adulta campionessa medaglia di bronzo è andato a Najdah Al Zobair allevata e posseduta da Sheikh Abdulla Bin Mohammed Al Thani.

Ed ultimi ma non meno importanti gli stalloni adul-ti campioni, dove due stalloni hanno ottenuto gli stessi voti e alla fine Marquis Cahr è stato nominato Stallone Adulto Campione Medaglia D’oro, posse-duto da HRH Prince Khaled Bin Sultan Al Saud.Stallone Adulto Campione Medaglia D’Argento è stato Abha Qatar posseduto da H.H. In uno splendido sabato soleggiato di primavera nel mese di maggio-il Centro di Addestramento Specializzato negli Equini di Mary Lang, che è al vertice in Austria, ha invitato i suoi clienti ed amici da tutta Europa ad una splendida celebrazione del cavallo arabo! Iniziando la mattina con un brunch tutti insieme,gli ospiti hanno potuto godersi suc-cessivamente una presentazione degli stalloni da monta e straordinari spettacoli da mostra. On a beautiful sunny Saturday in the spring month of May – Austrias Top-Training Center Specifically Equine of Mary Lang invited its clients and friends from all around Europe to a wonderful celebration of the Arabian horse! Starting with a get-together-brunch in the morning, the guests were able to en-joy afterwards a presentation of breeding stallions and amazing show performances. I momento salienti del festival di primavera svol-to quest’anno sono state le spettacolari esibizioni degli ospiti arrivati da tutta Europa-iniziando con la famiglia Feuerstein dall’Italia. Essi non sono soltanto allevatori di successo, così come anche possessori dell’incredibile campione europeo me-daglia d’argento Feuer Jade (di Ajman Moniscio-ne) -ma sanno perfettamente anche come addestra-re un cavallo per un diverso utilizzo- vi siete mai seduti accanto al vostro cavallo su di un divano?

Noemie Zeller dalla Switzerland ha presentato la sua bellezza maculata W.A. Mysteria (Narym x Mauka) sotto-sella in una splendida dimostrazio-ne di dressaggio. Con il sotto-sella soltanto da due anni, questa esibizione di successo e questa fattri-ce sono il perfetto esempio di cosa si possa ottene-re da un cavallo di talento, se gli viene offerta la giusta opportunità.

Highlights of this years Spring-festival were the spectacular performances of guests from all around Europe – starting with the Feuerstein family from Italy. They are not only successful breeders and for example owners of the amazing European silver champion Feuer Jade (by Ajman Moniscione), but they also know perfectly how to train a horse for a different kind of use – or have you ever sat next to your horse on a couch?

Noemie Zeller of Switzerland presented her flea-bitten beauty W.A. Mysteria (Narym x Mauka) un-der saddle in a wonderful dressage presentation. Only under saddle since two years, this successful show and brood mare is a perfect example of what you can achieve with a talented horse, if you give it the chance.

And then there was Spanish fire at the presenta-tion! They are rare in todays breed, but they ho-nored the spring festival with their presence: two amazing Spanish arabian stallions entered the

Testo Rosso è stato ac-compagnato da un altro gioiello spagnolo-il figlio di El Perfecto, Isar (per Nabab) che è attualmente prestato alla Germania.Mary Lang e la sua squadra hanno presentato al-cuni dei loro contendenti delle manifestazioni av-venute nella stagione delle mostre 2014-come la sbalorditiva figlia di Shanghai EA, Wilandra EA, lo stallone puro egiziano Bourhani Montashar (di Simeon Sharav), lo stallone nuovo arrivato Feuer Jade ed il multi campione Marjan Albidayer (di Marajj), che poco dopo è partito per il Regno Uni-to, per la stagione delle monte 2014. Mary Lang and her team presented some of their show contenders for the show season 2014 – such as the amazing Shanghai EA-daughter Wilandra EA, straight Egyptian stallion Bourhani Mon-tashar (by Simeon Sharav), the newcomer stallion Feuer Jade and multichampion Marjan Albidayer (by Marajj) who left to the UK shortly after for the 2014 breeding season. Passando davanti ad ogni stalla, sono stata rapita dai languidi, espressivi e grandi occhi neri di questi cavalli. The specialized skills Mary has to train and work with these be-autiful horses are based on a longtime experience the young woman already gained in her childhood. Growing up riding Iceland ponies, haflingers and warmbloods, Mary already knew very early that she was going to commit her life to the horses. Af-ter school she studied to be a riding instructor and when she met Arabian horses for the first time in Austria, there was no turning back. “The first day I spent at an Arabian horse farm was a turning point in my life. The first time I walked through the barn, I could not believe my eyes. I was overwhel-med and captivated by the beauty and refinement of the Arabian horse. As I walked by each stall, I was taken by the soft large black expressive eyes of these horses. Finally, when I saw these Arabians for the first time turned out on the pasture and they were galloping and trotting around so gracefully and yet would run right up to me to stop and look at me with such an intelligent gentle eye, it was that moment I decided to commit my life to the Arabian horse”, she tells with a smile on her face. Con questo entusiasmo ha iniziato presto la sua carriera lavorando per due anni per la famosa scuderia d’allevamento dei Sax Arabians e colla-borando nel 1997 in copia con Scott Allman per istituire il Centro di Addestramento Specializzato negli Equini, che è diventato presto uno dei centri di maggior successo in Europa.

Dal 2008 il Centro di Addestramento di Mary è ubicato in Austria, una nuova pietra miliare su una strada di successo. “L’allevamento è collocato nel-la splendida città di Lauterach, ad appena dieci mi-nuti dalla Germania e vicino alla ben nota città di Bregenz sul Lago di Costanza”, ci racconta Mary. Tutti i box dei cavalli hanno dei paddock esterni cosicché gli equini possano giocare all’a-perto o possano riposarsi nei loro box ogni qual-volta vogliano. “L’allevamento ha una dimensione ideale per me e il mio concetto di lavoro con questi splendidi cavalli arabi”, dice Mary. “Il mio concet-to specifico di lavoro con i miei cavalli include che mi piacerebbe essere a stretto contatto con ognu-no di loro. Io educo e lavoro personalmente con ognuno dei cavalli che addestro. Ciò mi offre la possibilità di instaurare uno speciale legame con

Since 2008 Marys Training Center is located in Austria, a new mile-stone on a successful road. “The farm is located in the beautiful city of Lau-terach, just ten minutes from Germany and close to the well known city of Bregenz at the Lake Con-stance”, tells Mary. That gives her the perfect op-portunity to be very close to all of her clients from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and France as well. The facility has 20 comfortable stables, a beautiful large indoor arena with a big grandstand and is surrounded by wide fields. All of the boxes have outside paddocks so that the horses can play outside or have a rest in their boxes whenever they want. “The farm has a perfect size for me and my idea of working with these beautiful Arabians”, tells Mary. “My special concept of working with my horses includes that I would like to be in close contact with each of them. I personally condition and work with all of my training horses. That gi-ves me the possibility to create a special bond with each horse. Knowing their strengths and weaknes-ses is very important for me to be able to show them to their best.”

What sets Specifically Equine Training Center apart from the competition is its special style of preparation, training and presentation of the show and riding horses. It offers a wide range of training possibilities for each type of horse, from handling show training to western and dressage riding. To-gether with her clients Mary is able to carefully choose the horses and teach them to show and give their best, always according to their individual skills and abilities. The main goal is to keep the horses happy and to give them the self confidence to present themselves to the highest levels in the showring.

Where did your passion for horses born?The passion for horses started when I was a child, I was 7 years old and they taught me to drive a classic coach with the long reins horse. Thereafter it was ma-gic and love for horses.

Cosa ti affascina del mondo del Cavallo Arabo?Questo mondo mi affascina perchè ti permette di cono-scere paesi e culture diverse e il modo di come viene allevata e custodita questa magnifica creatura.

Quante gare di morfologie e titoli hai vinto come al-levatore?Abbiamo vinto delle buone gare dal 2004 ad oggi, da quando ufficialmente è nata “Aretusa Arabians”. In 10 anni abbiamo vinto tanti campionati Nazionali Italiani con stalloni come Rfi Farid, Ts Apolo, Zt Shajat, Adib, Meton fa e “Aretusa malik shah” in Egyptian event, e tantissime sono le gare Nazionali e Internazionali vin-te in Europa con Rfi Farid, una medaglia di bronzo al Mondiale di Parigi 2010 e tante altre gare in Brasile, Italia, Austria, Belgio, Aachen in Germany e in Riyadh Saudi Arabia e tante ancora vinte in tutta Italia con i cavalli come Zt Magbilt, Aretusa Akim, Alima Moni-scione Don Luciano, Eclisse Dr. Shamirapal, Aretusa Pollon, Aretusa Qatara, Aretusa Medusa, Aretusa Alì, Aretusa Shamir.

How many morphology championships and titles have you won as a breeder?We have won some good championships from 2004 to to-day, and since “Arethusa Arabians” was officially born, we have won many Italian national championships in 10 years, with stallions such as RFI Farid, Ts Apolo, Zt shajat, Adib, Meton fa and “Arethusa malik shah” in an Egyptian Event, and they are so many the national and international competitions we have won in Europe with RFI Farid, a bronze medal at the 2010 Paris World Championship and many other championships in Bra-zil, Italy, Austria, Belgium, and Aachen in Germany, in Riyadh Saudi Arabia, and many we have still won all over Italy”, with horses such as Zt Magbilt, Arethusa Akim, Alima Moniscione Don Luciano, Eclipse Dr. Sha-mirapal, Arethusa Pollon, Arethusa Qatara, Arethusa Medusa, Arethusa Alì, Arethusa Shamir.

Can you tell us about how did you start this job?

Come si svolge la tua giornata da allevatore?La mia giornata da allevatore inizia con la mia visita giornaliera per controllare lo stato di salute di tutti i cavalli in scuderia e continuo con impegno per tutto il giorno con l’allenamento di alcuni cavalli sotto con-trollo assoluto della mia presenza, la programmazione di breeding e tutto quello che riguarda l’allevamento, che non e poco.

Da quanti anni tu allevi questa razza di cavalli?Allevo il cavallo Purosangue arabo dal 1995, dopo che per tanti anni ho girato e fatto esperienza guardando gli show di Grosseto degli anni ‘90 e tanti altri show in Italia. Ho deciso di Acquistare la prima fattrice e così ho iniziato ad allevare.

Quando ha preso forma il tuo programma di alle-vamento?Il mio programma allevatoriale ha preso forma con in-tensità quando ho costruito L’aretusa Arabians nel 2004 dopo avere acquisito tante esperienze e internazionali.

Mi sapresti tracciare le caratteristiche del Cavallo Arabo? Tracciare le caratteristiche del cavallo arabo è molto semplice ed elementare, sarebbe come tracciare le ta-belline delle scuole elementari. Fammi la prossima do-manda!

Che cosa ricerchi nei tuoi cavalli?Nella scelta dei miei cavalli in primis cerco l’equilibrio morfologico, un corpo che sia bilanciato; poi che abbia una spiccata tipicità e un carisma tale da trasmettere a

How is your day as a breeder?My day as a breeder starts from my daily visit to check the health status of all the horses in the stable, and the continuous commitment throughout the day with the training of some horses, under the absolute con-trol of my presence, with breeding programming and everything relates to the stud, that is not cheap.

How many years have you bred this breed of horses?I breed the Arabian thoroughbred horse since 1995, after so many years I got around and I had experience watching the Grosseto Shows in 1990, and many other shows around Italy. I decided to buy the first mare, and so I started to breed.

When did your breeding program took form?My breeding program has taken shape with intensity when I built the “Aretusa Arabians” in 2004, after ha-ving gained many national and international experien-ces.

Could you mark out the characteristics of the Arabian horse?Marking out the characteristics of the Arabian horse is very simple and elementary, it would be like mar-king out the elementary schools tables. Ask me the next question!

What do you seek in your horses?In the choice of my horses in the first place I look for morphological equilibrium, a body that is balanced; then they must have a strong typicality and a charisma

Quali linee di sangue impieghi principalmente?Le mie basi allevatoriali sono principalmente straight egyptian e related; ho anche linee di sangue miste, ma cerco di utilizzare le cavalle che mi soddisfano mor-fologicamente e che hanno type al di là delle linee di sangue.

Ne preferisci una in particolare? Perché?Personalmente preferisco la linea di sangue straight egyptian, perché mi trasmette emozioni che sono in-spiegabili e che solo il cavallo Asil mi trasmette; ma noi alleviamo per le gare di morfologia e, quindi, uti-lizzo tutti i cavalli anche non straight per raggiungere i mie obbiettivi in show.

Come gestisci la vendita dei puledri non particolar-mente adeguati per la riproduzione?Non mi impegno assolutamente nel vendere il cavallo che non abbia le caretteristiche tali da essere un ripro-duttore o altro, attendo con molta pazienza che arriverà il proprietario senza pretese, per questo io mi impegno a far nascere pochi cavalli e puntando alla qualità sele-zionando buone fattrici.

Quali sono gli obiettivi che vorresti raggiungesse il tuo allevamento?Gli obiettivi da raggiungere sono ambiziosi e difficili. Lavoro con impegno nel fare le scelte adeguate augu-randomi di raggiungere obiettivi più grandi di quelli raggiunti prima.

Quali sono le tue fattrici più importanti?Per me tutte le fattrici sono importanti, comunque fac

Which bloodlines do you primarily use?My breeding bases are mainly straight Egyptian and related, I have also mixed bloodlines, but I try to use the mares morphologically satisfy me, and which have the type over the bloodlines.

Do you particularly prefer a specific bloodline?The reason why?Personally I prefer the straight Egyptian bloodlines, because they convey me emotions that are inexplica-ble, and which Asil horse only gives me, but we breed for the morphology shows, then I use all the horses, also those who are not straight, for achieving my goals during the shows.

How do you manage the sale of foals which are not particularly suitable for reproduction?I do not absolutely commit myself on selling a horse who does not have the features of the stud or other, I wait very patiently for an unpretentious owner to come, for this I am committed to give birth to a few horses and I point on quality, selecting good mares.

Which are the goals you would like to reach with your farm?The objectives are ambitious and difficult to reach. I work hard to make appropriate choices, hoping to achieve greater goals than those I achieved before.

Which are your most important mares?All mares are important to me, I give you, however, the names of certain mares, because many others have been sold: 1° Shamirapal, 2° Lumiar Bachianna, 3°

Allevi cavalli arabi da show?Soprattutto allevo cavalli da show, è l’unica disciplina che mi dà soddisfazione.

Cosa ti affascina del mondo degli shows?La competizione sportiva mi intriga tanto, mi affascina guardare un cavallo che vedo per la prima volta e cerco l’innovazione del cavallo arabo che fa anno dopo anno.

Are there any young stallions, born in your stable, that you think to take with you for improving your farm?Yes, we currently have some young studs with different characteristics one from another, and I think they will give us satisfactions in breeding and in the racing field.

Do you breed Arabian horses for shows?I breed show horses above all, it is the only discipline that gives me satisfaction.

What fascinates you about the world of shows?Sports competition intrigues me so much, I am fasci-nated by watching a horse that I see for the first time, and I look for innovation the Arabian horse does year after year.

Se è sì, com’è nata la passione per i concorsi di mor-fologia?La passione è nata guardando gli show! E col tempo è maturata in me “l’arabite”.

Ci parli di un tuo cavallo che si è particolarmente distinto a livello morfologico?Senza ombra di mio dubbio il cavallo che si è distinto nelle gare di morfologia è stato “Rfi Farid”.Da quando l’ho scoperto in Brasile si è imposto nel campionato nazionale Brasiliano vincendo una me-daglia d’argento e successivamente importato in Eu-ropa. Ha vinto in tantissime gare di morfologia con due handlers importanti che sono Luca Oberti e Frank Sponle. E’ stata una bella avventura insieme a questo cavallo coraggioso e intrigante che rimarrà sempre nel mio cuore.

Quanto è cambiato l’ambiente degli shows, rispetto a 15/20 anni fa?L’ambiente dello show è cambiato tantissimo, su tutti i livelli, sia nazionale che internazionale, rispetto a 15 anni fa. Il cavallo arabo ha preso più consenso in tutto il mondo, adesso si è tutti alla ricerca del cavallo più bello e più forte e questo intriga tanto chi alleva nel mondo.

Secondo te, quanto è adeguato il clima del nostro territorio all’allevamento dei cavalli arabi?Per quello che mi riguarda, noi siamo al sud dell’Ita-lia, in Sicilia, e il clima è mite per i 12 mesi dell’anno. Quindi ottimo per il cavallo arabo.

Diversi allevatori Italiani stanno vendendo all’este-ro molti dei cavalli più importanti del nostro Paese. Cosa ne pensi?Penso che vendere dei buoni cavalli all’estero per noi

If the answer is positive,how was your passion for morphology shows born?The passion started watching the shows! And “the Ara-bite” matured in me over time.

Can you talk us about a horse of yours who has morphologically distinguished himself?Without a shadow of doubt, my horse who distingui-shed himself in morphology shows, was “RFI Farid”. Since I discovered it in Brazil, it has established itself in the Brazilian national championship, by winning a silver medal, then I imported it to Europe. It has won many morphology championships with two important handlers, that are Luca Oberti and Frank Sponle. It was a great adventure together with this intriguing and brave horse, that will always remain in my heart.

What has changed in the environment of the shows, compared to 15/20 years ago?The environment of the shows has changed a lot, com-pared to 15 years ago, on all levels, both nationally and internationally. The Arabian horse has gotten more ac-claim worldwide, now everyone is looking for the most beautiful and stronger horse, and all this intrigues so much those who breed horses all around the world.

In your opinion, how much is our country’s climate appropriate for breeding Arabian horses?As far as I’m concerned, we are in the south of Italy, and Sicily has a mild climate for 12 months a year. So it’s great for the Arabian horse.

Several Italian breeders are selling abroad many of our country’s most important horses. What do you think about?I think selling good horses abroad is a great honor for us as breeders. This reinforces the Italian breeder who

Qual è il segreto di tanto successo con i cavalli ara-bi? Non esiste un segreto, esiste semplicemente avere la competenza e la capacità di presentare il tuo cavallo in quella gara specifica, dove può essere competitivo e, con una dose di fortuna, puoi avere il successo!

Quanto è importante il marketing in questo settore?Questo è importante, ma il marketing più forte è avere dei cavalli vincenti che vanno in gare ad alto livello e il resto arriva da solo.

Da che prospettiva vedi l’attività di allevamento? Come vedi il futuro di questa razza?Io sono sempre di buon auspicio. Il mercato internazio-nale è sempre in crescita in tutto il mondo per il cavallo arabo, esiste una richiesta di mercato su dei cavalli che hanno un buon palmares, i nuovi acquirenti puntano sul bel cavallo e che sia un vincente, quindi vedo positivo.

Quale consiglio daresti a chi vuole intraprendere questo lavoro?Questo non lo si può iniziare come un lavoro per tutti. Può diventarlo, si… ma non è un negozio per cui la mattina apri la porta e vendi. Hai bisogno di acquistare e crearti buoni cavalli vincenti, ma questo necessita di tanta esperienza personale devi stare sul terreno di gara e vincere con i tuoi cavalli.Devi creare i cavalli vincenti, cosa non facile, e maga-ri successivamente potresti avere richieste di vendita, cosa molto complicata. L’allevamento è complicato per chi non c’è dentro.

Secondo te quali sono le qualità principali per di-ventare un buon allevatore?Parlare di questo è lungo e complesso. Quello che ti posso dire semplicemente è che ci vuole tanta esperien-za, tanta fortuna e una buona lungimiranza nel capire le doti dei tuoi cavalli.

What is the secret of such a success with Arabian hor-ses?There is no secret, there is simply the competence and the ability to present your horse in that specific cham-pionship, where it can be competitive and with a bit of luck it can succeed!

How important is marketing in this world?This is important, but the strongest marketing is to have winning horses presented in high level championships, and the rest comes by itself.

What perspective do you see the breeding from? How do you see the future of this breed?I am always of good omen. The Arabian horse’s inter-national market is always growing all over the world, there is a market demand for horses which have achie-ved good results, new buyers focus on the good winning horse, then I see a positive future.

What advice would you give to those who want to un-dertake this work?This can not be started as a job for everyone. It can become like that, of course... but it is not a shop where you open the door in the morning and you sell. You need to purchase and create good winning horses,but this requires a lot of personal experience,you have to stay in the show ring and you have to win with your horses.You must create winning horses,and it is not easy, then maybe you could have requests for sale, it’s a very com-plicated thing. Breeding is complicated for those who are not in.

In your opinion, which are the main qualities to beco-me a good breeder?Talking about this is long and complex. What I can say is simply that it takes a lot of experience, a lot of luck and a good foresight to understand the qualities of your horses.

How and when did you realize that the Arabian horse could play an important role in your life?Early in my youth I was infected by the horse virus. But Arabian horses were not so numerous 40 years ago, so I indulged in horse sport with crossbred horses.Only many years later, when our children were older and were often absent, we were able to focus on horses once again. The only question was, with what kind of horses we wanted to live in the future.We visited the “Pferd Wels” in Austria and sat down by chance in the hall of the Arabian Championships.These graceful, refined and elegant horses fascinated us from the first moment on. We had to look no further, the breed choice was decided. It had to be Arabs.

Come e quando avete realizzato che il cavallo arabo avrebbe svolto un ruolo importante nelle vostre vite?Presto nella mia giovinezza sono stato infettato dal virus del cavallo. Ma i cavalli arabi non erano così numerosi 40 anni fa, così mi sono avvicinato all’ippica con i ca-valli ibridi.Soltanto molti anni più tardi, quando i nostri figli sono cresciuti ed erano spesso lontani, siamo stati capaci di focalizzarci sui cavalli di nuovo. What was your first meeting with Arab horse like? What influenced your decision to begin breeding and when was it? The search began for the time being in the domestic market.We took regular riding lessons and one day there was an Arab, which was offered for sale, put into stall. The imposing purely Polish gelding, was a eye catcher. Our first Arabs moved into a box in our stable.Of course, we had to buy a second horse. The search began anew.“Ibn Munim Saddam” from the stable Zimmermann from Schwarzwald-Baar DE, was selected interna-tionally the ‘Arab of the Year’. The stallion stood in Switzerland, in the stable “El Sol” in the Bernese Ober-land. We visited the farm. Some horses were presented to us and at the very end we discovered a five-year-old son of “Munim”. The gray stallion with mighty gait was a dream of a horse, and he moved into our stall.We still had two empty boxes. So we looked for two girlfriends for our male horses. Marbach, the birthpla-ce of the German horse breeding was our goal this time. “Muhadschirina” (Neshan x Maslamah), a pu-rely Egyptian three-year mould mare came to Switzer

Com’è stato il vostro primo incontro con il cavallo arabo? Cosa ha influenzato la vostra decisione d’ini-ziare l’allevamento e quando è successo?La scelta è iniziata per il primo momento con il mercato domestico.Prendevamo regolarmente lezioni di equitazione, ed un giorno ci siamo imbattuti in un cavallo arabo, che era predisposto alla vendita, seduto nella sua stalla. L’im-ponente cavallo castrato puramente polacco è stato un colpo d’occhio. Il nostro primo cavallo arabo è finito in un box all’interno della nostra stalla.Di sicuro dovevamo comprare un secondo cavallo. La ricerca iniziò nuovamente.“Ibn Munim Saddam” della stalla Zimmermann di Schwarzwald-Baar DE, è stato selezionato a livello in-ternazionale come “cavallo arabo dell’anno”. Lo stallo-ne si trovava in Svizzera, nella stalla “El Sol” nel Ber-nese Oberland. Abbiamo visitato l’allevamento. Ci sono stati mostrati alcuni cavalli e proprio alla fine abbiamo scoperto un figlio di “Munim” di cinque anni. Lo stal-lone grigio con una possente andatura era un sogno di cavallo, ed è stato trasferito nella nostra stalla.Figura 1: Mogambo Ibn MunimAvevamo ancora due box vuoti. Così abbiamo cercato due fidanzate per i nostri cavalli maschi. Poco tempo dopo, una “Black Pearl” della stalla Pepi Selva del Sud Tirolo si è unita al nostro allevamento.Da queste due cavalle sono nati ed abbiamo allevato un paio di puledri. L’allevamento “EMAJ” era nato.

land. Shortly thereafter, a “Black Pearl” from the sta-ble Pepi Selva from the South Tyrol joined our farm.From these two mares we bred a few foals. The bree-ding farm “EMAJ” was born.

What breeding lines have influenced your breeding in the past and today? What are the differences you have found?The first breeding products were not convincing. We were looking for other bloodlines. I became aware of “El Shaklan”. This ethereal, dreamlike stallion en-chanted me.In Austria there were two sons of this exceptional stal-lion: “CH el Brillo” and “El Sher-man.”We looked at both and bred our Marbach mare with CH-Brillo. Another mare “Scarlett” (Essteem x Scala el Jamaal), we bred to get with “Ali Jammal” offspring.CH el Brillo inherited the huge eyes, “Ali Jamaal” inherited the exotic typo.We liked the result and we continued these bloodlines with matching stallions from around the world.

Why do you breed purebred Arabians and for how many years?We have been breeding with enthusiasm Arabians for nearly 15 years. Every year we look forward to our fo-als and hope for better and better breeding results.What is your very personal goal in breeding?Our breeding goal is a beautiful horse with big eyes, fine face and correct and elegant body. The best foals we pass further for breeding and the others are trained in the sport and leisure riding.

Is your breeding a business or a leisure activity?Our breeding means for us a lot of joy in our spare time. The business aspect is secondary, since it is always very difficult for me to separate myself from horses.

What is the optimal number of horses on the farm, how many foals do you breed per year, if all goes well?Seven years ago, we expanded the stables and now we are planning another new building with a hall. We can-not accommodate more than 25 horses, so the number of foals per year is limited to 3-5 animals.

On most of the larger studs one or more stallions are to be found. Why don’t you keep any?I don’t keep a stud’s stallion, because I want to choose the breeding possibilities by stallions all over the world. In a small stud farm a stallion would be underemployed and would have to be leased, which is not my nature.

Quali linee riproduttive hanno influenzato il vostro allevamento in passato ed oggi? Quali sono le diffe-renze che avete trovato?I primi risultati riproduttivi non erano convincenti. Sta-vamo cercando altre linee di sangue. Sono venuto a co-noscenza di “El Shaklan”. Questo stallone etereo, da so-gno, mi ha incantato.In Austria c’erano due figli di questo eccezionale stallo-ne: “CH el Brillo” e “El Sher-man”.Abbiamo osservato entrambi ed abbiamo fatto accop-piare la nostra cavalla Marbach con CH-Brillo. Un’altra cavalla “Scarlett” (Essteem x Scala el Jamaal) l’abbiamo fatta accoppiare con “Alì Jamaal” per ottenere una prole.

CH el Brillo ha lasciato in eredità gli occhi enormi, “Alì Jamaal” ha lasciato in eredità il carattere esotico.Ci è piaciuto il risultato ed abbiamo continuato queste linee di sangue stalloni corrispondenti da tutto il mondo.

Perchè avete allevato i cavalli arabi di razza pura e per quanti anni?Stiamo allevando con entusiasmo i cavalli arabi da quasi 15 anni. Ogni anno guardiamo in anticipo i nostri puledri e confidiamo in risultati riproduttivi sempre migliori.

Qual è veramente il vostro personale obiettivo ripro-duttivo?Il nostro obiettivo riproduttivo è un cavallo bello con occhi grandi, muso delicato e un corpo opportuno ed elegante. I migliori puledri che portiamo avanti per l’al-levamento e gli altri sono addestrati sia nell’equitazione sportiva che in quella per il tempo libero.Il vostro allevamento è un affare economico oppure un’attività per il tempo libero?

Il nostro allevamento rappresenta per noi molta gioia nel nostro tempo libero. L’aspetto economico è secondario, dal momento che è sempre molto difficile per me sepa-rarmi dai miei cavalli.

Qual è il numero ideale di cavalli per l’allevamento, quanti puledri allevate ogni anno, se tutto va bene?Sette anni fa, abbiamo ingrandito le stalle ed ora stiamo pianificato un’altra nuova struttura con una salone. Non possiamo accogliere più di 25 cavalli, cosicché il nume-ro dei puledri ogni anno è limitato a 3-5 esemplari.

Nella maggior parte degli allevamenti più grandi si trovano uno o più stalloni. Perchè non ne mantenete qualcuno?Non mantengo uno stallone d’allevamento, perchè vo-glio poter scegliere tra le opportunità riproduttive offerte dagli stalloni di tutto il mondo. In una piccola scuderia d’allevamento uno stallone sarebbe sottoccupato e do-vrebbe essere affittato, ma questo non è nella mia natura.

Tutti parlano della crisi economica, molti riducono il numero di cavalli e puledri, dato che la vendita non è più la stessa cosa e molti cavalli arabi sono molto economici da comprare. Cosa ne pensate voi? Qua-li decisioni devono essere prese da un allevatore per mantenere un allevamento in vita? Ci sono dei punti critici nell’allevare i cavalli arabi?Specialmente in Svizzera, l’allevamento ed il manteni-mento dei cavalli è molto costoso.I cavalli in vendita possono essere difficilmente venduti a prezzi che coprano i costi, specialmente quando offerte economiche dall’estero disturbano i prezzi.Con persone qualificate cerchiamo di allevare cavalli di alto profilo e di venderli a prezzi decenti.

La Svizzera è come un’isola. Com’è ancora possibile mantenere l’internazionalità e far si che le persone all’estero siano informate sulla razza per poter ven-dere i cavalli?I cavalli di qualità possono essere allevati ovunque.Per gli allevatori europei diventerà certamente più diffi-cile riuscire a raggiungere un maggiore successo interna-zionale. Sfortunatamente, troppi grandi cavalli vengono venduti all’estero, principalmente negli Emirati Arabi Uniti e pertanto non saranno più accessibili a molti al-levatori in futuro.

Ogni allevamento ha la sua speciale insegna (cavallo, filosofia, condotta d’allevamento). Qual è la vostra e cosa significa per voi?

Everyone is talking about the economic crisis, many reduce the number of horses and foals, as the selling is no longer the same thing and many Arabs are very cheap to buy. How is it with you? What decisions are to be taken as a breeder to keep a breeding active? Are there any critical points in the breeding the Arabian?Especially in Switzerland, the breeding and keeping of horses is very expensive.Horses for sale can hardly be sold at prices covering the costs, especially when cheap promotions from abro-ad disturb the prices.With skilled mattings we try with to breed high profile horses and to give them further for decent prices.

Switzerland is like an island. How is it still possible to keep up Internationaly and to make people abroad aware of the breed to be able to sell horses?Good horses can be grown anywhere.For European breeders it will certainly become more difficult to achieve major international success. Unfor-tunately, too many great horses are sold abroad, pri-marily to the United Arab Emirates and are therefore they become no longer accessible for many breeders in

Hello Davide. First of all thank you for agreeing to beinterviewed by our magazine. Let’s start from the be-ginning: how and when and did your passion begin for the world of horses and Morphology?Hello Gianluca. It is always a pleasure to share this passion with a friend.It all started a long time ago. I’ve always been fascina-ted by the horses since childhood. At the time my uncle always took me to the stable with him. So I have had the opportunity to know them more closely, and I realized that animal had something special. But there was in the stable a special horse, an Arabian mare: it was love at first sight. And today as it was that time, every day

Ciao Davide. Innanzitutto, grazie per aver accettato di essere intervistato dalla nostra rivista. Comincia-mo dall’inizio: come e quando è cominciata la tua passione per il mondo dei cavalli e della Morfologia?Ciao Gianluca. E’ sempre un piacere condividere questa passione con un amico.Tutto è iniziato molto tempo fa. Sono stato sempre affa-scinato dai cavalli. Fin da bambino mio zio mi portava sempre in scuderia con se. Avendo avuto l’opportunità di conoscerli più da vicino, ho capito che quell’animale aveva qualche cosa di speciale. Ma c’era in scuderia un cavallo speciale, una cavalla araba: è stato amore a prima vista. E, tutt’oggi, come allora, ogni giorno di più questo

amore è senza fine per questo animale così unico. Mi ritengo fortunato ad avere avuto la possibilità di girare il mondo e di conoscere realtà e persone incredibili, che mi hanno dato la possibilità di accrescere le mie conoscenze a tutti i livelli umani e di lavoro.

Ricordi ancora la tua prima esposizione?Si, nel lontano 1996 a Città di Castello. Un’emozione unica con la mia prima cavalla Russa… indimenticabile.

Hai nostalgia delle esposizioni di una volta o preferi-sci l’atmosfera che si respira oggi?Nostalgia… beh, quella c’è sempre. Ma penso che tutto debba avere un’evoluzione, come i nostri cavalli.Sicuramente non condivido pienamente alcune cose di oggi, ma penso che con la condivisione e una sana di-scussione si possa fare qualche cosa per migliorare tutta la nostra industria.

In che modo hai allargato le tue conoscenze teoriche e pratiche sull’handling e l’addestramento dei cavalli da esposizione?E’ stata un’evoluzione continua, a partire con l’avventu-ra di Ca Di Gianni, al Royal Jafaar Stud in Jordan, poi Royal Bouznika in Marocco fino ad arrivare negli States, dove collaboro e lavoro tutt’ora in California presso Fu-rioso Farm di Raymond Mazzei; qui ho davvero trovato prima di tutto un amico e poi è stato come andare all’U-niversità del training...

Come mai hai deciso di addestrare cavalli arabi?Tutto è iniziato come una passione, un hobby che poi è diventato il mio lavoro, la mia vita.

Sei anche allevatore?

more and more, this love is endless for this animal so unique. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to tra-vel the world and meet amazing people and realities, so I was given the opportunity to increase my knowledge at all human and working levels.

Do you still remember your first show?Yes, it was in the far 1996 at Città di Castello. It was an unforgettable experience with my first Russian mare.

Do you miss the old shows or do you prefer the atmo-sphere we breathe today?Well... I have always a bit of homesickness. But I think all things should have an evolution such as our horses.I definitely do not agree with some things of our days, but I think with sharing and a healthy discussion we can do something to improve our entire industry.

How did you expand your theoretical and practical knowledge on handling and training show horses?It has been a continuous evolution starting with the Adventure of Ca Di Gianni, at the Royal Jafaar Stud in Jordan, then with Royal Bouznika in Morocco, up to arrive in the United States, where I still cooperate and work in California, at Raymond Mazzei’s Furious Farm; here I really found first and foremost a friend and then it was like going to the University of training...

Why did you decide to train Arabian horses?It all started as a passion, a hobby which then became my job, my life.

Are you also a breeder?Yes, I own and breed Egyptian horses.

Si, possiedo e allevo cavalli egiziani.

Qual è la linea che ti piace di più? E perchè?Beh, ce ne sono tante che mi piacciono. Comunque, al-dilà del pedigree, mi piace un cavallo equilibrato, corret-to; purtroppo vedo che molta gente si concentra un po’ troppo sulla testa. Il giusto balance di armonia è quello vincente.

In quale nazione hai riscontrato una migliore qualità a livello organizzativo di un’esposizione?Ovviamente negli States, dove lavoro. Qui non si lascia niente al caso, sono super organizzati con strutture ido-nee. Si può fare sempre meglio, ma posso dire tranquil-lamente che il nostro livello di organizzativo in Italia e ottimo. Quindi, avanti così.

C’è una vittoria alla quale ti senti più legato?Si, la mia prima vittoria internazionale supreme Cham-pion mare al Est Championship. E’ stata un cosa che non dimenticherò mai in tutta la mia vita a cui sono molto affezionato.

Che consiglio daresti a chi si avvicina al mondo del purosangue arabo per la prima volta?Di avvicinarsi senza paura in punta di piedi e di capire come funziona questo bellissimo mondo, affidarsi a per-sone professioniste dell’ambiente.

Cos’è cambiato dal suo primo show nel corso degli anni?Tutto rispetto al passato è diventato molto più immedia-to, professionistico. Dalla scelta delle foto alle strategie con Internet, tutto il mondo è diventato molto più picco-lo. Le domande e le risposte in merito sono immediate.

Which is your favourite bloodline? And why?Well, there are so many bloodlines I like. However, re-gardless the pedigree I like a balanced, straight horse; unfortunately, I see that many people focuses a bit too much on the head. But the right balance of harmony is winning.

In which country did you find a better quality on or-ganizing a show?Obviously in the U.S., where I work. Nothing is left to chance here, they are super organized with suitable fa-cilities. We can always do better, but I can safely say our organization level in Italy is great. Then we have to keep on going like this.

Is there any victory which you feel more yours?Yes, my first international victory, the Supreme Cham-pion mare in the East Championship. It was a thing I will never forget in my entire life, I’m very fond of it.

What advice would you give to those who approach the world of the Arabian thoroughbred for the first time?To approach without fear, on tiptoe, and to understand how it works this beautiful world, to rely on professio-nal people of this world.

What has changed over the years since your first show?More than in the past, everything has become much more immediate, professional. From the choice of the photos to that of Internet strategies, all the world has become much smaller, questions and answers aboutare immediate.

Come racconterebbe un handler ad un profano del settore?Prima di tutto dandogli dei consigli e di non fare gli stes-si errori che ho fatto io in passato.Fino ad arrivare alla scelta più giusta per lui da allevato-re o da futuro handler.

Diventare Handler... era un suo sogno nel cassetto o una casualità della vita?Penso che siano entrambe. Trovarsi nel posto giusto al momento giusto è sicuramente la carta vincente e met-tersi in gioco.Io ho avuto sempre la voglia di sapere e d’imparare tut-to riguardo al training e all’allevamento. Tutto questo è stato quello che mi ha dato la spinta e la voglia di conti-nuare questo fantastico lavoro fino ad ora.

C’è una simbiosi particolare tra handler e cavallo?Sicuro! Io amo lavorare con i miei cavalli perchè voglio che loro facciano parte di me. Questo è parte del lavoro di un serio professionista. Mi piace seguire passo dopo passo il training, quindi posso dirti che ci deve essere feeling a tutti gli effetti.

What would a handler tell to a layman of this world?Well, giving him advices first of all and telling him not to make the same mistakes I have done in the past.Until he gets the right choice for him as a breeder or a future handler.

Becoming a Handler... is was a dream or a life ran-domness?I think they are both of them. Being in the right place at the right time is definitely the trump card, and giving yourself a challenge.I have always had the desire to know and learn all about the training and breeding.And all this gave me the drive and the desire to conti-nue this great work so far.

Is there any particular symbiosis between handler and horse?Of course! I love working with my horses because I want them to be part of me. This is part of the work of a serious professional handler.I like to follow the training step by step, so I can tell you there must be feeling to all effects.

Cos’ha di speciale il cavallo arabo?La bellezza, la sensibilità, la sua natura. Tutto fa si che sia un essere speciale.

Che messaggio rivolge agli allevatori?Ho visto nei miei viaggi e negli show in America che il trend sta cambiando. Hanno cominciato a crossare linee open con stalloni egiziani. Il trend sta cambiando. Quel-lo che voglio dire è che bisogna avere il coraggio di fare certe scelte, di guardare fuori dalla scatola.

Quali aspettative serba per il prossimo futuro?Il futuro è sempre in movimento… Chissà.

Tra i cavalli che ti sono stati affidati, in quale hai tro-vato di dover sostenere un impegno maggiore?Per me tutte le persone sono uguali e lavoro tutti i cavalli che mi vengono affidati alla stessa maniera. Non lascio nulla al caso.Sicuramente aver lavorato in passato per Royal Jafaar Stud e Royal Bouznika, dove le aspettative erano ele-vate, di conseguenza la pressione era davvero altissima.

In che modo ti poni nei confronti del cavallo quando lo addestri?Non c’è un training uguale per tutti, con ogni cavallo ho un approccio diverso. Ogni cavallo ha una sua persona-lità, quindi il lavoro dev’essere fatto in maniera diversa, accurata.A livello psicologico un esemplare rispetto ad un altro può rispondere in maniera completamente diversa, quin-di uno è costretto a fare scelte diverse nell’addestramen-to. Un nuovo metodo, una nuova idea riguardo l’adde-stramento.

What’s special about Arabian horses?Its beauty, its sensitivity, its nature. All this makes it to be a special creature.

What’s your message to the breeders?I have seen the trend is changing. During my travels in America and in the shows. They have started crossing open bloodlines with Egyptian stallions. Trend is chan-ging. What I want to say is, we must have the courage to make certain choices and to look out of the box.

What are your expectations for the near future?The future is always moving... Who knows.

Between the horses that you have been entrusted, with which you had to commit more?To me, all people are equal, and I work with all the horses that are entrusted to me in the same way. I do not leave anything to chance.Surely it was a challenge for me working in the past with the Royal Jafaar Stud and the Royal Bouznika, where expectations were high and consequently the pressure was really high.

How do you feel about the horse when you train it?There is not the same training for everyone, with every horse I have a different approach. Each horse has its own personality, so the work must be done in a diffe-rent, accurate way.A specimen can react in a completely different way respect to another one, on a psychological level, so I have to make different choices during the training. A new method, a new idea about the training.

In un clima festoso e molto piacevole, con la pre-senza di tanti espositori, appassionati ed ospiti giunti da ogni parte del mondo, nei giorni 2-3-4 Maggio 2014, si è tenuta nella piccola cittadina di Travagliato, in provincia di Brescia, nella ormai famosa Fiera Cavalli Expo, la XXXV Edizione del Concorso Morfologico Internazionale del cavallo purosangue arabo.Dopo il successo dello scorso anno con la presenza di 140 cavalli al seguito, l’organizzazione Arabite, capitanata dal sig. Claudio Mazza, ed il suo Team - Gianluca Martino, Antonio Culcasi, Laura Ma-scagna, Federica Culcasi, Marco Capelli ed Anna

In a festive and very pleasant atmosphere, with the presence of many exhibitors, fans and guests arri-ved from all over the world, on days 2, 3 and May 4, 2014 the morphological international competi-tion of the Arab thoroughbred horse took place in the small town of Travagliato, in the province of Brescia, at the almost famous Fiera Cavalli Expo.After the success of last year, with the presence of 140 horses in tow, the Arabite organization, hea-ded by Mr. Claudio Mazza, and his team - Gian-luca Martino, Antonio Culcasi, Laura Mascagna, Federica Culcasi, Marco Capelli and Anna Scar-pa - has really outdone itself this year.

Scarpa - quest’anno si è davvero superata.Ben 187 i cavalli presenti allo Show, divisi tra le tre competizioni: B International, Egyptian Event e ArabItalia. Un numero di cavalli che non si ve-deva in uno show Italiano dal lontano 1994 nella città di Grosseto.Un meritato successo e grande soddisfazione per lo staff Arabite, ormai affermata organizzazione che da circa 5 anni è impegnata in più importanti manifestazioni morfologiche Italiane.L’evento è iniziato il venerdi con le categorie di 1, 2 e 3 anni femmine e maschi; il sabato con le categorie fattrici e stalloni; la domenica, come di consueto, è stata riservata ai futurity e, subito a se-guire, ai campionati finali.I giudici chiamati a valutare queste bellezze sono stati: Mrs. Maria Annaratone Ferraroni dall’Ita-lia, Mr. Regis Huet dalla Francia, Mr.Mohamed Machmoum dal Marocco, Mrs. Joanne Lowe dalla Gran Bretagna, Mrs. Teresa De Borbon dalla Spa-gna, Mr. Daniel Souppat dalla Francia.Invece il ring ed il prering sono stati affidati alla professionalità dei sig. Mario Bonomi, sig. Mas-simo Moser, dott. vet. Gianpaolo Teobaldelli, sig. Roberto Ceccaroni, sig. Amodio Sparapan, tutti provenienti dall’Italia.Il tutto si è svolto con la magica atmosfera musica-le eseguita dal sig. A number of hor-ses that did not appear in an italian show since 1994 in the city of Grosseto.A well-deserved success and a great satisfaction for the Arabite staff, a well known organization by now, committed for about five years in the most important italian morphological manifestations.The event started on Friday with the 1, 2 and 3 year female and male categories; on Saturday it was the time of brood-mare and stallion catego-ries; on Sunday, as usually, it was the turn of the futurities, and then after, time was dedicated to the final championships.The competition judges called to assess these be-auties were: Mrs. Maria Annaratone Ferraroni from Italy, Mr. Regis Huet from France, Mr. Mo-hamed Machmoum from Morocco, Mrs. Joanne Lowe from Great Britain, Mrs. Teresa De Borbon from Spain, Mr. Daniel Souppat from France.The ring and the prering were instead assigned to the professionalism of Mr. Mario Bonomi, Mr. Massimo Moser, veterinarian doctor Gianpaolo Teobaldelli, Mr. Roberto Ceccaroni, Mr. Amodio Sparapan, all from Italy.Everything took place in the magical atmosphere of music performed by Mr. Gianluca Filippi Coc-cetta.The sponsors who joined the event were many also, including: Al Shaqab Foundation Dubai Ara-bin stud, Athbah stud, Giacomo Capacci Arabian training, Alsayel stud, I.A.T.C. In questo numero tratteremo una patologia di in-teresse emergente nel campo dell’allevamento equino, dato che ad esso è associato un frequente fenomeno abortivo.

1. EziologiaLa rinopolmonite virale equina è provocata da un virus erpetico, l’herpes virus equino 1 (EHV1). Sono conosciuti altri specifici sierotipi di tale virus patogeni per l’apparato respiratorio, come le EHV2 e le HAV3, responsabili di infezioni dell’apparato respiratorio; ma solo il sierotipo 1 è in grado di sviluppare frequenti numeri di aborti.

2. EpidemiologiaL’infezione Herpes virus tipo 1 è diffusa in tutto il mondo, soprattutto nella sua forma respiratoria che ha diffusione ubiquitaria, mentre quella aborti-gena ha diffusione un po’ più irregolare, frequente negli Stati uniti, Regno Unito, Australia e Nuova Zelanda.La patologia normalmente se nella forma respira-toria non si complica, non si sviluppa con feno-meni particolarmente gravi, né tantomeno con la morte degli animali, ma incide soprattutto negli animali sportivi nell’interruzione degli allenamen-ti e per l’esplosione di aborti nei gruppi di femmi-ne gravide.Benché possano essere colpiti cavalli in tutte le età, solitamente la forma respiratoria interessa soprat-tutto gli animali giovani, mentre l’aborto colpisce

In this issue we will discuss a disease of emerging interest in the field of horse breeding, because to this disease is associated a frequent abortive phe-nomenon.

1. EtiologyThe equine viral rhinopneumonitis is caused by an herpes virus,the equine herpes virus 1 (EHV1).Other specific pathogenic serotypes of the virus are known to the respiratory system, such as the EHV2 and the HAV3, responsible for infections of the respiratory system; but only serotype 1 is able to develop frequent numbers of abortions.

2. EpidemiologyThe herpes virus type 1 infection has spread all around the world, especially in its respiratory form that has an ubiquitous spread, while the abortive form has a bit more erratic diffusion, it is more frequent in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.There are no complications if the disease is in its respiratory form, it does not develop particularly serious phenomena, nor it causes the death of ani-mals, but it affects above all in training of sports animals, and it causes the explosion of abortions in groups of pregnant females.Athough they may be affected horses of all ages, usually the respiratory form mostly affects young animals, while abortion affects the females in the autumn months,therefore more or less up to the

le femmine nei mesi autunnali, quindi più o meno entro il sesto mese di gestazione, seguita poi da una immunità della durata circa di sei/dodici mesi .Tali cavalle, che sono venute a contatto con il virus abbastanza spesso, sviluppano un fenomeno im-munitario che conferiscono ai loro puledri tramite il colostro, proteggendoli per i primi mesi di vita dal contagio.La malattia, interessando l’apparato respiratorio e l’apparato genitale femminile, è trasmessa sia tra-mite gli scoli nasali degli animali colpiti da forma respiratoria, sia dai feti e dagli invogli fetali elimi-nati dagli animali colpiti dalla forma abortiva.

3. PatogenesiAnche se il virus trova i suoi tessuti di elezione in quelli di natura respiratoria, esistono più forme di tale patologia associabili a più forme sintomatolo-giche, tanto è vero che si può parlare di:

1. infezione delle prime vie aeree dei cavalli giovani

2. aborti3. setticemia con elevata mortalità dei puledri

neonati4. encefalo-mielopatia dei cavalli adulti

Dopo il contagio il Virus entra e colonizza la mu-cosa nasale, faringea, tonsillare. Successivamente c’è una fase virelica sistemica, con invasione dei polmoni, del tessuto nervoso, della placenta e del feto.

3. PathogenesisEven if the virus finds its favorites tissues in those of the respiratory system,there are different forms of this pathology associated with different sympto-matic forms, so that we can speak of:

foals4. encephalon-myelopathy of adult horses

After infection the virus enters and colonizes the nasal, pharyngeal and tonsillar mucosa. Then the-re is a systemic viral phase, with invasion of the lungs, of the nervous tissue, of the placenta and of the fetus.

4. Sintomatologia

1. Forma respiratoria Le manifestazioni principali di tale sintomatologia, che colpisce i cavalli di giovane età, è caratteriz-zata da febbre da 39 a 40, congiuntivite, tosse, di-spnea lieve adenomegalia dei linfonodi mascellari con decorso dai due ai cinque giorni senza grosse compromissioni dell’appetito e con esito benigno. Talvolta questa compromissione delle strutture delle prime vie respiratorie, dovuta alla replicazio-ne virale, predispone gli apparati allo sviluppo di infezioni batteriche secondarie, che possono esita-re talvolta in polmoniti anche gravi.

2. Forma abortivaDurante la fase viremica il virus colonizza i tessuti placentari e i tessuti fetali, dando luogo a fenomeni abortivi che possono esitare dal danneggiamento di tali strutture anche dopo quattro mesi dall’insor-genza della sintomatologia respiratoria.Talvolta in seguito a queste infezioni placentari i feti non vengono abortiti, ma nascono puledri che, a causa delle lesioni epatiche e polmonari contratte durante la fase intrauterina, nascono deboli, non in grado di esercitare la suzione, non in grado di mantenere la stazione quadrupedale, non in grado di esercitare una corretta defecazione e, quindi, de-stinati a soccombere nell’arco di pochi giorni.

3. Viremia e setticemia neonataleQuesta è la forma che colpisce animali neonati, i quali durante la fase viremica sviluppano forme setticemiche da altri agenti eziologiche di natura batterica, che li portano a morte in ventiquattro/trentasei ore.

4. Sindrome paraliticaTale sindrome proviene dallo sviluppo dell’infe-zione virale a livello del sistema nervoso e della guaina mielinica. Non si è capito il perché delle lesioni neurologiche, ma si pensa che il danno va-

Sometimes this impairment of the struc-tures of the upper respiratory tract, due to viral replication, predisposes to the development of ap-paratuses secondary bacterial infections, which can sometimes lead to serious pneumonias.

2. Abortive formDuring the viremic phase, the virus colonizes the placental and fetal tissues, causing abortion phenomena that may arise from damage to these structures even after four months from the onset of respiratory symptoms.Sometimes, as a result of these placental infec-tions, fetuses are not aborted, but they born foals which, because of liver and pulmonary injuries ac-quired during intrauterine phase, born weak and not able to exercise the sucking, they are not able to stand on their feet, not able to exercise a proper defecation, and thus destined to succumb within a few days.

3. Neonatal viraemia and septicemiaThis is the form that affects newborn animals, which develop septicemic forms during the viremic phase, taken from other etiologic agents of bacte-rial nature, that lead them to death in twenty-four/thirty-six hours.

4. Paralytic syndromeThis syndrome comes from the development of vi-ral infection in the nervous system and in the mye-lin sheath. It is not understood the reason of the neurological lesions, but it is thought that the va-

• DiagnosiIl quadro clinico dell’infezione respiratoria non grave, degli aborti e delle lesioni tipiche nei feti abortiti, sono elementi importanti che caratte-rizzano la valutazione diagnostica della rino-polmonite virale equina .Ovviamente la conferma diagnostica richiede l’isolamento del virus in sede di laboratorio dai tessuti prelevati dai feti abortiti, dalle placente e dagli scoli nasali degli animali in forma respi-ratoria.

• TerapiaCome del resto si verifica in tutte le infezioni di natura virale che colpiscono il cavallo o qua-lunque altro animale, non esiste alcuna terapia atta ad impedire lo sviluppo del virus nell’orga-nismo parassitato, ma solo delle terapie collate-rali come l’antibiotico, terapia per il controllo delle infezioni batteriche secondarie e la terapia di supporto, vitaminico minerale e fleboclisi nell’intento di sostenere il soggetto durante la fase viremica.

• ProfilassiA scopo profilattico, il principale modo per evi-tare la contrazione di tale sindrome respirato-rio-abortiva risiede, non essendoci cura, nella profilassi vaccinale.Tale profilassi vaccinale può essere eseguita nei puledri con una doppia vaccinazione a distanza di un mese e successivo richiamo annuale e può essere eseguita durante la gravidanza.Negli allevamenti, infatti, è uso comune vacci-nare le fattrici gravide ogni due mesi dal terzo al nono mese, che rappresentano i mesi più fre-quentemente oggetto dello sviluppo delle forme abortive da Herpes.Nel caso in cui, invece, ci si ritrovi di fronte a casi di Herpes, in allevamenti di equidi non vaccinati è necessario l’utilizzo della pratica dell’isolamento dei soggetti clinicamente affetti in aree distanti dai soggetti sani, onde evitare lo sviluppo e la promulgazione del contagio.

• ProphylaxisProphylactically, the main way to prevent the contraction of the respiratory-abortion syndro-me, lies in vaccination, since there is no cure.That vaccination can be performed in foals with a double vaccination at a distance of one month and next annual booster, and it can be performed during pregnancy.In fact, it is common on farms to vaccinate pre-gnant mares bimonthly from the third to the ninth month, which are the months most fre-quently exposed to development of herpes abor-tive forms.If we are dealing with cases of herpes instead, in non-vaccinated herds of horses, it requires the use of the insulation practice for the clini-cally affected subjects in distant areas from he-althy subjects, to prevent the development and promulgation of the infection.

Very few horses can embody the history of the Ara-bian horses. Royal Colours is one of them. The history of Royal Colours started in 2003 in USA, bred by Arabian of Distinction.Royal Colours has a wonderful straight Egyptian pe-digree.At first, the father, True Colours, has a great wining history all around the world in a very young age. He

Royal Colours – the king of Dubai! has a straight Egyptian Pedigree with the famous Thee Desperado inside. True Colours is a natural show horse. He has a superlative beautiful face, a personified type, very correct in conformation and extraordinarily charismatic, complemented by his extreme natural high tail carriage and phenomenal motion. On the other side, the mother, Xtreme Wonder (by The Elixir), owned by Dubai Arabian horse stud, is also a very feminine straight Egyptian mare who has the same mother blood line of the great stallion Thee Desperado. She has a very refined head with a nice settled famine eyes.

Royal colours was entered in Europe to one of the most successful Trainings Centre Ca’ di Gianni.As Giampaolo Gubbiotti – well known as Woody - like to tell: “ I remember well the call I got from Paolo Capecci, my Partner, when he was in Lexington USA to show some horses during the Egyptian Event. He was so excited about the first impression of Royal Colours that we decided to take him together and our friend Mr Francesco Tripodi in a Partnership.”

That was the start of this promising young stallion

He landed in Holland when he was 2 ye-ars old only – after one week in Europe he was ju-nior gold champion in Baden Germany with the hi-ghest score of the show. he got well known very fast and climbed the stairs up to be named as the World Champion Junior Colt in Paris, 2006. The Italian na-tional hymn was played and all the Italians were very proud to be part of this legendary moment, especially his handler Paolo Capecci, Giampaolo Gubbiotti and Mr Franceso Tripodi.

In February 2007 the general Manager Mohammed Al Tawheedi and the Exec. Stud Manager Abdelaziz Al Marzooqi came to Italy to the Arabian Training Centre Ca’ di Gianni just to see him – where they im-mediately fall in love with this exceptional stallion. They bought him to be presented as the leader of the growing Dubai Arabian Horse Stud.Under the flag of Dubai Arabian Horse Stud, he rea-ched again the top of the top with the Gold Champion Titles at the Dubai Arabian Gold Cup and the World Championship in Paris 2009. He was set up as a high level of breeding stallion with two times Gold Cham-pion titles as junior and a senior. He won many shows and was able to beat many Champion Stallions. He got his place in Dubai Stud after his great show career and impressed the whole world with his wonderful progenies. Now Dubai Stud is very proud to have such amazing progenies of him, which are following the same rhythm as their father in the shows, and some of them are part of the breeding program of the Dubai Horse Stud.

How did you get interested in the Arabian horse?As a child it was always my dream to be a knight, with a sword, a suit of armour and great wild horse. At that time I dreamed of a white horse with a black mane and tail - of course I believed that the horse would keep its colour. Later on I rode dressage in national com-petitions. I had an Anglo Arabian Horse - many times we failed in the dressage tests and I never won big tit-les, but I had always the most beautiful horse. In 1997 we opened our “Karolinenhof” stud. We bred, trained and showed our horses in halter and dressage, these were our ambitions. Thats why I have a big knowledge

Caro Niko, ti ringrazio molto per averci concesso qualche minuto a parlare della tua passione di giudice.Cara Noëmie, grazie per avermi offerto l’opportunità di fare una chiacchierata con te.

Come hai iniziato ad interessarti al cavallo arabo?Da bambino è sempre stato il mio sogno essere un ca-valiere, con una spada, un’armatura e un grande caval-lo selvaggio. A quel tempo sognavo un cavallo bianco con la criniera e la coda nera - certamente credevo che il cavallo avrebbe mantenuto il suo colore. Più tardi ho guidato il dressaggio in concorsi nazionali. Ho avuto un cavallo anglo-arabo - abbiamo fallito molte volte nei test di dressaggio e non ho mai vinto grandi titoli, ma ho sempre avuto il cavallo più bello. Nel 1997 abbiamo aperto la nostra scuderia d’allevamento “Karolinenhof”. Abbiamo allevato, addestrato e fatto esibire i nostri ca-

valli nell’accavezzare e nel dressaggio, queste erano le nostre ambizioni. Questo è il motivo per cui ho una gran-de conoscenza riguardo tutti i differenti settori e capisco anche le cose che accadono dietro le quinte.

Come hai iniziato ad interessarti per diventare un giudice e cosa hai dovuto fare per ottenere la licenza?La mia prima mostra da giudice è stata nel 1990 a Borde-aux/Francia. Christian Bourassé mi ha inviato e così ho valutato la manifestazione - senza essere in alcun tipo di elenco - assieme a Pechado, Jawarowski e Diego Men-dez. Dopo sono stato invitato ancora e ancora e dopo un po’ mi hanno inserito nell’elenco dei giudici - al tempo era facile così. Fino ad oggi ho valutato circa 200 mostre inclusi Campionati del Mondo, Campionati Europei, La Coppa di Tutte le Nazioni, e molte volte le mostre nel Me-dio Oriente, Sud Africa, USA, Sud America e Australia.

Qual è il compito e la sfida di un giudice di oggi nelle mostre di cavalli?Come giudice dovresti sapere che hai un’enorme re-sponsabilità. Un giudice scadente può rovinare una mo-stra, non importa quanto bene questa sia organizzata. Giudicare correttamente è un “DOVERE”! Questo non è sempre facile dal momento che la maggior parte dei giu-dici conosce molti dettagli personali, come la pressione finanziaria, le offerte di vendita dei cavalli, gli interessi privati, gli amici e i nemici.

Qual è per te il punto più importante, quando giudi-chi un cavallo?Penso che giudicare non sia poi tanto difficile. Non do-vremmo renderlo più complicato di quanto lo è realmen-te. Per me è importante classificare i cavalli in modo equo. Uso i punteggi per ottenere il giusto piazzamento e mi piace usare il limite massimo dei voti. I buoni voti motivano i partecipanti a portare di nuovo i loro cavalli ad una mostra, e questo è l’interesse di tutti noi.Il carattere è soggettivo e dovrebbe esserlo. L’80% dei cavalli ottiene un 18 e anche più nella tipicità, e questo accade anche nelle piccole mostre. In testa/collo e nel movimento sono quasi sempre sicuro e a mala pena fac-cio errori, dal momento che sono stato un cavallerizzo per molti anni. Il corpo è sempre speciale, dato che un buon maniscalco o un buon addestratore può coprire al-cuni errori o punti deboli (che è anche il loro lavoro in fin dei conti). Un paio di anni fa era comune utilizzare i voti del corpo per classificare i cavalli. Fortunatamente questo modo di valutare non viene più utilizzato perché da giudice si fanno troppi errori come questo e non è davvero giusto.

How did you get interested to become a judge and what did you have to do to get the permission?My first show as a judge was in 1990 in Bordeaux/France. Christian Bourassé invited me and so I judged the show - without being on any kind of list - together with Pechado, Jawarowski and Diego Mendez. Then I was invited again and again and after a while they put me on the judging list - at the time it was easy like that. Until today I judged around 200 shows including World Championships, European Championships, All Nations Cup, and many times shows in the Middle East, South Africa, USA, South America and Australia.

What is the task and the challenge of a judge at todays horse shows?As a judge you should know that you have a huge re-sponsibility. A bad judge can kill a show, doesn’t mat-ter how well the show is organised. Fair judging is a “MUST”! That is not always easy as most of the judges know many personal details, like financial pressure, sale deals of horses, private interests, friends and ene-mies.

What is for you the most important point, when you judge a horse?I think judging is not so difficult. We should not make it more difficult as it is. For me it is important, that I rank the horses in a fair way. I use the scores to get the right placement and I like to use the upper limit of marks. Good marks motivate the participants to bring their horses again to a show and this is the interest of all of us.Type is subjective and it should be. 80% of the horses get a 18 and above in type and this in small shows too. In head/neck and movement I am nearly always sure and I barely make mistakes as I was a rider for many

Se potessi cambiare qualcosa del sistema attuale di valuta-zione, cosa sarebbe?Secondo me non è importante che tipo di sistema viene uti-lizzato per giudicare. Se guardi i cavalli con coscienza allora i cavalli migliori dovrebbero vincere, non importa se ven-gono utilizzati i punteggi o si classifica il cavallo soltanto (come nel sistema inglese). Più

categorie è possibile giudicare e più interessante diventa per il pubblico. Per esempio si potrebbero dividere la te-sta e il collo oppure il camminare e il trottare in differenti criteri. Si potrebbe moltiplicare oppure - come si usava nelle gare nazionali tedesche - si potrebbe estendere il punteggio per la tipicità fino a 22. Alla fine è importante che il miglior cavallo si classifichi al primo posto.

Qual è stato il cavallo più impressionante che hai mai valutato?Il mio momento saliente è stato certamente quando ho potuto giudicare lo strabiliante “Marwan Al Shaqab” due volte da giovane. Esso è ed è stato il cavallo perfetto, e sempre autentico “il Marwan…” Ricordo molto bene quando Micheal Byatt lo ha cavalcato con il capestro da fiera e senza alcuna sella alla cerimonia di premiazione - questo è stato un momento emozionante!

Quali sono gli aspetti positivi e negativi nell’essere un giudice? (Viaggiare, tempo di posa, e così via)Un punto negativo è sicuramente il viaggiare: il ritardo del volo, i voli cancellati, i bagagli vengono persi e così via... per me che sono dottore il lunedì è il giorno più importante della settimana e ai miei pazienti non importa se ho potuto dormire la notte.Il lato positivo è che si arrivano a conoscere persone da tutto il mondo. Si costruisce una piccola “Famiglia” per un certo periodo con l’organizzazione, il commentatore, il veterinario, i DC e i giudici, e dopo il weekend insieme tutti vanno per la propria strada e forse li incontrerai di nuovo, oppure no...

Il mondo delle mostre del cavallo arabo è cambiato molto. Ci sono meno spettatori e partecipanti. Anche il modo in cui si esibiscono i cavalli è cambiato non poco negli ultimi anni. Qual è la ragione di questa evoluzione secondo te?Si, le mostre del cavallo arabo sono cambiate. Negli anni precedenti erano più dei mercati. S’incontravano gli altri

years. The body is always special, as a good farrier and a good trainer can cover some mistakes or bad points (which is even their job in the end). A few years ago it was common to use the body notes to rank the horses. Fortunately this way to judge is not really used anymore because as a judge you make to many mista-kes like that and thats not really fair.

If you could change something about the current jud-ging system, what would it be?In my opinion it is not important what kind of system you use to judge. If you look at the horses conscien-tiously then the best horses should win, no matter if you use scores or just rank the horse (like in the english system) The more categories you can judge the more interesting it is for the audience. You could for exam-ple split head and neck or walk and trot into different criterias. You could multiple or - like it was used in the German nationals for example - you could extend the type score until 22. In the end it is important that the best horse in the first place.

Which horse was the most impressive one you ever judged?My highlight was for sure was to be able to judge the amazing “Marwan Al Shaqab” two times as junior. He is and was the perfect horse and always authentic “the Marwan…” I remember very well when Micheal Byatt rode him only with the showhalter and without any saddle to the price ceremony - this was an emotional moment!

Which positive and negative aspects does it have to be a judge? (Travelling, time exposure, and so on)One negative point is for sure travelling: delay of the flight, flights are cancelled, baggage gets lost and so on… for me as a doctor Monday is the most important day of the week and my patients don’t care if I was able to sleep at night. The positive side is that you get to know people all around the world. You build a small “Family” for a time with the organisator, speaker, Veterinary, DC’s and the judges and after the weekend everyone is going their own way and maybe you meet each other again or not…

The world of the Arabian horse shows changed a lot. There are less spectators and participants. Also the way the horses are presented has changed quite much in the last years. What is the reason for this deve-lopment in our opinion?

Questa è la ragione per cui è sempre più importante divertirsi, l’emozione sportiva, l’avventura e l’informazione.Ancora una volta i giudici sono importanti perché pos-sono condividere la loro conoscenza, e valutare in modo equo e comprensibile per tutti, affinché la mostra possa essere un successo per i partecipanti e l’organizzazione.

Il mercato del cavallo arabo è diventato sempre più difficile. Cosa pensi che debba cambiare per creare una ripresa?Nel 2014 ci sono state alcune interessanti innovazioni, che l’hanno guidato nella giusta direzione. In Arabia Saudita - dove abbiamo dei premi in denaro molto alti ogni anno - dal primo al quinto posto classificato ognuno ha ricevuto lo stesso premio in denaro.Le regole ECAHO permettono ora di avere fino a 10 contendenti nelle gare ed essi sono autorizzati ad entrare nell’arena per numero e non per posto in graduatoria - così che tutti possano guadagnare il titolo di campione. Entrambi i modi sono buoni per relativizzare il vinci-tore. “Il vincitore si prende tutto...” deve essere lascia-to nel passato come concetto. Questo è il modo in cui possiamo avere nuovamente tanti cavalli nelle mostre. Il mercato del cavallo ha sempre avuto salite e discese. Al momento dobbiamo essere più creativi. Le crisi hanno sempre offerto l’opportunità di fare qualcosa di nuovo e possiamo già vedere la luce alla fine del tunnel.

Yes, the Arabian horse shows did change. In earlier days they were more like markets. You met each other to sell and buy horses. Breeding stallions were able to find a mare and the trainers had many show con-tenders. Today the commercial aspect can no longer be the reason to participate in a show. That’s why it is more and more important to have fun, sports feeling, adventure and information. Once again the judges are important because they can share their knowledge and judge fairly and understandable for everyone so that the show can be a success for participants and the or-ganisator.The market for Arabian horses has become more and more difficult. What do you think has to change to create an upturn?In 2014 there were some interesting innovations, which lead in the right direction. In Saudi Arabia - where we have very high price money every year - from the 1st to the 5th place everyone received the same amount of price money. The ECAHO rules allow now up to 10 contenders in the championships and they are allo-wed to enter the ring by number and not by place - so that everyone can get the champion title. Both ways are good to relativise the winner. “The winner takes it all…” needs to be in the past. Thats how we can get more horses to the shows again. The horse market always had ups and downs. At the moment we need be more creative. Crises always offered the opportunity to do something new and we can already see the light et the end of the tunnel.

Like every year Dubai Arabian stud lunches the open day right after the Dubai international Ara-bian horse championship. In this year, 2014, the open day started in a successful way presenting Dubai stud self progenies in the show ring. Guests, breeders and judges from all over the world gathe-red in the very special event enjoying the beauty of the farm and the well organized service, and most important enjoying the stunning horses of Dubai stud . All the seats were fully occupied. It was re-ally great honor to see H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Arabian horses so clo-sely. The general manager of the Dubai stud Eng. Mohammed Al Tawheedi and the Exec manger Mr Abdelaziz Al Marzooqi put a great effort to make this day exceptionally successful event. At that day Paolo Capecci, Muhannad and Redwan presen-ted some of the most beautiful horses around the world and the young upcoming stars of the Dubai stud. – As there was for sure the queen of the farm

Come ogni anno - tutti volevano andare alla celebre giornata inaugurale della Fiera d’allevamento del cavallo arabo di Dubai Stud, che ha avuto nell’anno 2014 un inizio di successo nelle mostre, con le loro progenie allevate autonomamente.Specialmente alla Mostra del Cavallo Arabo di Du-bai quest’anno. Gli ospiti, gli allevatori e i giudici adorano andare lì, dal momento che questo è un evento importante per riunirsi, godersi uno splendi-do allevamento, un servizio molto ben organizzato e dei splendidi cavalli. Come ogni anno tutti i posti sono stati completamente occupati ed è un privilegio vedere così da vicino la scuderia d’allevamento e i cavalli, che sono di possesso di sua altezza Sh. Ma-hamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Il direttore generale Mohammed Al Tawheedi e il direttore della scude-ria Abdelaziz Al Marzooqi sono entrambi ben noti e affermati nel mondo del cavallo arabo. È stata presentata anche la preziosa cavalla di pura razza egizia Frasera Mashara (Sha-hil * MB Madora). In seguito abbiamo nuovamente avuto l’opportunità di ammirare FA El Rasheem (FA EL Shawan * Virtuosa MLR) il nuovo aggiunto alla scuderia ed al programma di allevamento, esso è una stella imminente ed è anche stato appena nominato puledro giovane campione medaglia d’oro alla Mo-stra A Internazionale di Dubai. Fa El Rasheem the legendary colt of (Fa El Sha-wan * Vituosa MLR), a new addition to the farm and the breeding program as well. He is an upco-ming star which was just named as the gold cham-pion junior colt at the Dubai International A Show 2014.On the other side a couple of wonderful foals from different top producing stallions and mares were presented at the event.

there and the reception of the organizing commit-tee, in the person of Samir, was wonderful, typical of the Khoseztan’s population.The enthusiasm of the participants made us start the course immediately after putting our luggage at the hotel, we did it at the facilities of ALSHAHBAA STUD. We were introduced to 35 people, boys and girls impatient to begin the course.The interpreter Hily, which is a breeder of Tehran also, made us as translator since early afternoon, starting with the usual theoretical part, and fini-shing the first practice session at night.The next morning, the air thrilled by the enthusia-sm of the participants becomes alive, and it begins to mold itself by creating interest with a succession of tests and questions. An intensive day of details, of strenuous testing and retesting on horses, took us exhausted to the end.The end of the two days was excited. Between sou-venir photos and the exchange of jokes to dilute the effort made by all of us, we said goodbye to these special people, before heading to the surrounding desert, waiting to be hosted by a nomadic tribe, which raises Persian horses in “purity” for hun-dreds of years, on the famous “Silk Road”.The next day we left for an opposite destination, in the east of Iran.Yazd, an ancient city dating back to 3.000 years ago, is a place characterized by a reddish color of

Interactions and tempers have become more vibrant, we you joked and laughed; aware of the end of the experience we exchanged emails and photos among us.
