Two Types of Ruboobiyyah

1. General Ruboobiyyah

i. Regardless of what you believe, Allah will take care of your needs

out of the control of Allah.

2. Specific Ruboobiyyah

“And they worship besides Allâh things that hurt them not, nor profit them, and they say: "These

are our intercessors with Allâh." Say: "Do you inform Allâh of that which He knows not in the

heavens and on the earth?" Glorified and Exalted is He above all that which they associate as

[Surah Yunus:18]

“We only worship these idols so that they bring us closer to Allah.”

“Surely, the religion (i.e. the worship and the obedience) is for Allâh only. And those who take

Auliyâ' (protectors, helpers, lords, gods) besides Him (say):

"We worship them only that they may bring us near to

Allâh." Verily, Allâh will judge between them concerning

that wherein they differ. Truly, Allâh guides not him who is

a liar, and a disbeliever.”

[Surat Az-Zumar:3]

ushrikoon would turn to Allah sincerely

The Prophet (SAW) had a conversation with a man, asking h

worshipped. The man responded “six on this earth and one in the skies.” The

Prophet (SAW) then asked him who he worshipped when he really needed a

response, and the man replied: “The one in the skies.” After the rasul (SAW)

questioned this line of thinking, the man became a Muslim, giving up the

worship of the six gods he worshipped on this earth.

And when they embark on a ship, they invoke Allâh, making their Faith pure for

Him only, but when He brings them safely to land, behold, they give a share o

their worship to others. [Surat Al-Ankaboot:65]

When a wave covers them like the canopy (of clouds), they call upon Allah,

offering Him sincere devotion. But when He has delivered them safely to land,

there are among them those that halt between (right and wrong). But none reject

Our Signs except only a perfidious ungrateful (wretch)! [Surah Luqman:32]

The mushrikoon believed in Allah as Rabb, but they refused to worship Him

Truly, when it was said to them: Lâ ilâha illa Allâh "(none has the right

worshipped but Allâh)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it).

(they) said: "Are we going to abandon our âlihah (gods) for the sake of a mad

6. The Jahiliyyah Arabs talbiyyah during Hajj (said when circumambulating the Ka’bah)

Normal talbiyyah: “Labbaika Allahumma Labbaik. Labbaik La Shareeka Laka Labbaik. Innal-

Hamdah, Wan-Ni’matah, Laka wal Mulk, La Shareeka Lak.”

“Here I am O Allah, (in response to Your call), here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I

am. Verily all praise, grace and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.”

The modified talbiyyah: “Labbaika Allahumma Labbaik. Labbaik illa Shareeka huwa lak

tamlikuhu huwa malak.”

“Here I am O Allah, (in response to Your call), here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, except

a partner who belongs to you, and whom you control, but does not control you.”

SESSION SUMMARY

In essence, the Qur’an came to emphasise

Uloohiyyah (i.e. worshipping Allah alone),

the concept of Ruboobiyyah is a given – the

aim is to raise our level of pure faith.

Ruboobiyyah necessitates Uloohiyyah!
