APSDA 2012INVITATION FOR PARTICIPATION

The Asia Pacific Space Designers’ Association (APSDA) was founded in the year 1989 in Taipei, Taiwan. The founder members include The Chinese Society of Interior Designers (CSID), The Japanese Society of Commercial Designers (JCD) and The Korean Society of Interior Designers (KOSID). •APSDA is a platform that gathers Architects & Interior Designers from the entire Asia Pacific region with an aim to:· To socialize and to better understand the different cultures of its members· To exchange relevant information and knowledge between members through networking and constant interaction· To enable the design professionals to work close and to better achieve solutions for the design community in facing the soon to be established free trade zones.

APSDA 2012Conference and the General Assembly ( G A ) is being hosted by the Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID) . IIID’s President Ar.Bankim Dave, is the current elected Chairman of APSDA for the term 2010-2012.

APSDA 2012 is being held in GOA 16 & 17, 2012. A truly memorable week indeed with the GOA CARNIVAL following the APSDA 2012, giving every delegate a taste of the Indian hospitality and especially the Goan Culture.

Kala Academy, an architectural marvel created by the famous Architect Charles Correa is the chosen venue for APSDA 2012

Taj Vivanta, The Mariott and Cidade Goa have been chosen as the hospitality venues for the delegates considering their presence in the international hospitality market and also the close vicinity to the Venue.

The Paradox of Our Age .

We have bigger houses but smaller families; more conveniences, but less time.We have more degrees but less sense; more knowledge but less judgment;more medicines but less healthiness.We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble in crossing the street to meet the new neighbours.We have built more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever,but we have less communication;We have become long on quantity, but short on quality.These are times of fast foods but slow digestion;Tall man but short character; Steep profits but shallow relationships.It is a time when there is much in the window But nothing in the room.

Truly, The Paradox of our Age is Our Changing Lifestyle.

The 21st Century has seen the growth of New Value Systems and a New Order of Life. A life that now depends less on each other but more on the self; a life that depends less on sentiments & more on technology; a life that depends less on Human Values but more on cold reality of self appeasement.In the changing backdrop of the new “E-era” that has descended with alarming alacrity, we today find a New Social Order with New Social, ethical and moral Value systems that have changed the cultural dynamics of a Global Society as a whole, leading to ISOLATION of the SELF and possible dissolution of the True Inner Soul! Changing Demographic profiles at the nation, societal and nuclear family levels are leading to unparalleled changes in the way we LIVE and EMOTE today.We are today hurtling down the fast lane of Technology which is resulting in Lifestyle changes that were not even thought of 10 years ago. Laptops have given way to Tablets; mobile telephony has given way to short messaging, tweeting and facebook; Music is downloaded and very little is bought over the counters anymore!

This Digital Revolution is a source of fundamental change in our lives. How does this affect our lifestyles and how does DESIGN of our work places, our resting places, our wellness places and our mind spaces change accordingly?

The social, familial systems are undergoing a change, that is causing a subtle shift in the ‘oriental culture’ and its values. This then, is changing the way we live and hence our lifestyles.

Wealth today, is being perceived and interpreted differently by societies in different countries. The spatial needs are therefore also transforming in different age groups, and these changes are what we designers need to recognise and reinterpret in the context of existing social and cultural environment. These new values brought about co exist with the prevailing culture, causing a dualism , that is perceptible. APSDA 2012 aims to look into How we , as Designers, can contribute towards the changing environment and demands in our lifestyles through better and more sensible design.

APSDA 2012 Technical Sessions will be structured in a crisp & efficient way with each Sub-Theme restricted to 60 minutes for maximum focus and attention of speakers and the audience/participants:

Each session will have two Sub Themes (related to one Typology of space) and will commence through a KEY NOTE address focusing on issues in that area.

Each Sub-Theme (totaling 60 minutes) will have: Moderator’s Introduction : 5 minutes Precise Presentation: 10 minutes by a Non Architect Precise Presentation : 10 minutes each by 2 Architects Audience Interaction Session by Moderator: 20 minutes
