Using the disciplines of weight training, Pilates & Yoga,

Class I and Class II will promote: muscle tone, strength,

endurance and power….improve bone density….increase

metabolism….dramatically improve core strength with the

abdominal and balance work. These classes will also enhance

flexibility, posture and breathing capacity while relieving tension

& promoting vitality.

This course is designed to prepare and familiarize studentswith the important Scholastic Aptitude Test. It will be brokendown to first three evenings covering the English component(Room 151) and last three evenings covering the Mathcomponent (Room 238). The course will teach strategies forproblem solving, vocabulary development, readingcomprehension, sentence completion, comparing readingpassages and identifying sentence errors (math, verbal andwriting sections). Material to be presented should give thestudents direction and familiarize them with the format andexpectations of the test. Handouts will be given, and studentswill be expected to put in the effort and come to each classwith any questions they may have. **Students are encouraged to buy the Barron’s S.A.T.Review Book but it is not mandatory for the class.Class starts promptly at 6:30 as some timed sectionsmay be administered.

In this class, students will surprise themselves with theirunderstanding of how to draw charcoal portraits with confidenceand success. Through the use of photography and the grid,students will gain the ability to employ several drawingtechniques while creating a highly accurate, large charcoalportrait. Students will learn about the artist Chuck Close. Youwill need: a click eraser, vine and compressed charcoal,a leather cloth, blending stump and hot press watercolor paper. All materials can be purchased at Arlene’sArtist Materials, Fuller Rd., Albany.

Please bring: 8 X10" Portrait photo-printed in blackand white on regular printer paper. Feel free to bringmore than one if you are not sure which will workbetter. This cannot be a flash photo. There must belight and shadow on the face, and it should be clearand close up. If you cannot find one-we will create one

Hiking is a wonderful hobby andgreat exercise as well as a greatway to get in touch with nature!!!Let us teach you how to do itright! The art of “staying found”requires little more than a goodmap and compass, and the knowhow to use them properly. Today’s topographic maps are thebest available, and magnetic compass models are well-designedfor the modern navigator. Learning to use a compass and maptogether are fundamental skills each outdoorsman and womanshould have. This contributes to your safety afield, and also toyour success. This class offers an introduction to learning theseskills, with classroom and in the field hands on learning. Allclassroom materials are provided.

*Our optional hike will be on Buck Mountain overlooking LakeGeorge. On a clear day you can see the High Peaks in theAdirondack Mountains and also look below to see the manyislands sparkling like jewels in Lake George. Barbara McMartin’sbook, 50 Hikes in the Adirondacks, describes Buck Mountain as“a perfect introduction to the Adirondacks.” Buck Mountain is amoderate hike of 3 miles (one way) with a few challengingspots. We will car pool for the hike and you will need to bringyour own lunch and water. Plans and preparation for the hikewill be discussed in the class. Hike is tentatively plannedfor Saturday, May 2 (weather permitting).

This co-ed volleyball offering is set-up to provide individuals

with some time to unwind and have fun! The level of play is at

It’s time to get that old chair seat repaired! Enroll in this class

and learn to do the job yourself. Both pressed and woven cane,

splint, rush, porch weave and Danish cord techniques can be

taught in this class. Bring your project to the first class-we will

remove the old seat properly (if necessary). **First night of

class will be used to determine a plan and materials

needed for each individual’s piece to be worked on. A

schedule will be worked out for each project (and style

of weaving) and number of evenings needed to

complete the project.**Material fee is not included in the tuition. Materials will beordered and available by the second class. Individual materialfees will be due to the instructor at the second class.

Is your dog taking you for a walk instead ofyou walking him? Is he jumping up on yourguests? Maybe it’s time to take your pet tobasic dog obedience training! Basic skills tobe taught are: sit, stay, down, come, heel,etc. In this course, you will learn behavioral,reward based training. At this time,participants identify problems and goals foryou and your dog. The final week involves aversion of the canine good citizen evaluation

of your dog. The course is designed for dog owners who wantto understand basic dog training for both the home and workingdogs in public. Please bring toys and treats. If you have aleash at home, bring it with you to class so the instructor can

determine if it is what you need. Class size is limited.

This course is a follow up to most basic obedience courses. Thiscourse will begin with on lead training, but will move into offlead training as well as the basics of a canine good citizen testand or AKC companion dog certification. The course will notcertify dogs for either certification, but will prepare dogs andowners for tests of this kind. The streets should be busy with street fairs and festivals. Bryant Park and Central Park will be filled withflowers and interesting sights! Visit the 9-ll Memorial, the Empire State Building, Guggenheim Museum,Metropolitan Museum, MoMa, Museum of Natural History…the list goes on! You will find plenty of shopping,great eateries and sightseeing to fill your time. You might want to check out some of the great shows. The buswill pick up at Averill Park High School Parking lot promptly at 7:00 a.m. and arrive in NYC approximately 10:30a.m. at Bryant Park. The bus will leave NYC at 7:00 p.m. from Bryant Park and should arrive back at Averill ParkHigh School at approximately 10:00 p.m. Please register no later than May 9!

This trip is not tour-escorted so individuals are on their own to enjoy the big city. If you are interestedin catching a show, you can get ticket information by calling Ticket Master at 476-1000 or visit the internet. Youcan also visit the ticket booths when you arrive in NYC. The cost of the tickets and all meals are your responsibility.We will be traveling with Yankee Trails Charter Bus Company. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompaniedby an adult. No smoking will be allowed on the bus. There will be a comfort stop on the way to NYC and on thetrip home. So leave the driving to us and relax for the day! Make it a fun family day or a girlfriends’ getaway!led with flowers and interesting sights! You will find plenty of shopping, great eateries and sightseeing to fillyour time.
