‘Procurement and Contract Management: Practical Use of FIDIC Conditions of Contract for Hydropower Sector’ 24-27 September 2018 About the organizers The International Centre for Hydropower (ICH) is a non-profit organization based on institutional membership for organizations and companies in the hydropower sector. The purpose of ICH is to raise the standards of competence of personnel in the hydropower industry and promote the sustainable development of hydropower resources. The International Finance Corporation (IFC), is a member of the World Bank Group, is an international organization whose mission is to promote sustainable private sector investment in developing countries, helping to reduce poverty and improve people’s lives. IFC’s Nepal Sustainable Hydropower program (the “Program”) provides advisory services to help strengthen the development of the private sector in Nepal and is managed by IFC’s (CAS) Energy and Water Advisory Department. The Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN) is a membership organization of hydropower developers and stakeholder organizations, established with a vision to become the Umbrella organization of independent power producers that advocate for an investor friendly environment for power development in Nepal. Since 2001, IPPAN has been lobbying for private sector friendly policies, regulations and their prompt and effective implementation, disseminating information through media, seminar, conferences to political parties, government officials, civil societies and the people, building capacity of IPPs and related stake holders and developing linkages for regional co- operation in power sector. Course objectiveThe main objective of the project is to conduct a workshop on ‘Contract Management and Practical Use of FIDIC conditions of Contract in Hydropower Sector’. The workshop is intended to provide understanding of good practice of international contract management and practical use of conditions FIDIC and EPC contract.

Course contentThe training shall be conducted in a participatory approach with hands on activities.

• Procuring project contractors• Understanding type of contracts (EPC, Turnkey, EPCF, BOQ based)• FIDIC guidelines in Contract• Variations and during contract administration and manning organization with appropriate

contract management skill• Alternative dispute resolution (ADR)

Target groupThe course is aimed at Purchasing Executives, Senior Project and Contract Managers, Procurement Managers and Engineers. Participants can be from Private Hydropower Developers as well as government officials engaged in hydropower.

Duration of TrainingThree and half days and residential type.

Course dates and VenueThe course will be conducted from 24 September to 27 September 2018 nearby Kathmandu, Nepal. Detailed course programme and other relevant information will be sent to all selected participants in due course.

GeneralAll lecturers and resource persons are well-known specialists within their field, and they have extensive international and regional experience. The course would provide an opportunity to discuss and learn about current issues related to contract management and case studies.

Participants are encouraged to bring along information that can be shared about pending energy and hydropower issues of your interest related to contract management.

Admission requirements• Applicants should hold minimum academic qualification of an engineering or business

law and business administration degree from a recognised university and shall have experience in project management of Hydro Power projects.

• A minimum of about 5 years of working experience is required.• Proficiency in English is necessary.

The Admission Fee of the course is NRs. 25,000 for IPPAN members (Nepalese participants), NRs.30,000 for non IPPAN members (Nepalese participants) and USD 300 for International participants. The organizers will cover the cost of lectures, materials, accommodation, meals and a social programme. Travel expenses are not included.
