Freshers’ Week Crew applications

It’s that time of year again! Think you have what it takes to help the fresh Newcastle University students settle into the city this year? Freshers’ Week volunteers are required for duties 20th-27th September 2012.

Volunteer to become a Crew member or Driver and attend an interview next week… (just turn up any time!).10am-5pm, Tuesday 24th – Thursday 27th April. Planning Room, SU building.

If you have the experience to lead a team then apply to be a Supervisor or Chief and attend an interview this week… (again, turn up any time!).10am-5pm, Thursday 19th – Friday 20th April. Planning Room, SU building.

Two Student Trustee Positions

An unparalleled opportunity to have strategic oversight of a large, Charitble Organisation with over 20,000 members...Newcastle University Students’ Union is looking to appoint two students on to its Board of Trustees. The Board has ultimate responsibility for the affairs of the Students’ Union as it is a fully registered charity. Student representation on the Board is essential to ensure that as an organisation, we remain very much ‘student led’.

The Trustees meet six times over the academic year and play a key role in shaping the future strategic direction of our organisation. Successful applicants are given full induction training.

It is desirable that applicants have an understanding of financial accounting and other business related skill-sets such as law (particularly charity law), business management or marketing and an interest in the future of NUSU.

Local Council Elections

5pm, Wednesday 18th April is the deadline for registering to vote in the Newcastle City Council local elections being held on Thursday 3rd May 2012.See the City Council’s website for information on registration:www.newcastle.gov.uk/your-council/democracy-and-elections/electoral-register

Certain areas of Newcastle currently have a high proportion of resident students and your vote can make all the difference!JesmondLocal are hosting their usual election hustings at 8pm on Wednesday 25th April at Café 1901 on St. George’s Terrace, Jesmond.

All candidates from both North and South Jesmond will be in attendance for you to meet in person and decide who to vote for! ALDI Open Day

Appathon

Entry for round two is now open! Sports Brands - Student Focus Groups

Want to earn yourself £10?!

The University is holding a series of informal focus groups to see how students feel about top sporting brands. Sessions won’t be longer than an hour, and you will earn yourself a £10 gift voucher for the trouble! Apply to become a School Rep

Applications to become a School Rep are now open to all students. As a school rep you would play a crucial role in helping the Students’ Union in our commitment to support and represent students in their academic lives, ensuring students in your School feel their voice is being heard.

You would be given opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge and you’ll receive £200 honorarium for your hard work. To find out more about this amazing opportunity, which positions are available and how to apply check out: www.nusu.co.uk/courserep.

The deadline for applications is Midnight, Monday 7th May 2012.

Career Development Module

Be inspired by the real world instead of having to face another text book!

Registration for the Career Development Module is now open. You can earn up to 20 academic credits as part of your course for volunteer work outside the classroom through the Career Development Module.

The National Student Survey (NSS)

LAST CHANCE to tell the World what you think of your course at Newcastle University …Calling all final year undergraduate students!

The National Student Survey (NSS) 2012 closes on Monday 30th April 2012.

The aim of the NSS is to gain a true picture of students’ perception of their experiences as an undergraduate. The University is offering 10 cash prizes of £40, to be awarded randomly to students who enter the online survey prize draw, plus your opinions will help shape your course for future students.

Student Advice Centre

As from Monday 16th April the Student Advice Centre is back to term time hours – however please check the website for any changes to the normal hours if you are planning a visit.

There will be an Academic Roadshow by the SAC, next Monday (23rd April) in the Students’ Union – for further updates and times please see the digital screens around the building and check website: www.nusu.co.uk/sac

SCAN Masquerade Ball

Wednesday 16th May: SCAN in conjunction with the MADfoundation is holding a Masquerade Ball at Lumley Castle in Durham. Standing proud for more than 600 years, the magnificent spectacle of Lumley Castle dominates the County Durham landscape. Surrounded by beautiful parklands overlooking the River Wear and Durham County Cricket Ground, Lumley Castle is the perfect place for all members and friends of SCAN to get together and celebrate the end of the university year. Convocation Weekend

Friday 15th – Saturday 16th June 2012.

This is the annual reunion weekend for Newcastle University Alumni – if you are in your final year of study then you can attend the events that are organised over this weekend, including a “Battle of the Bands” session and talks from a variety of University departments, culminating in the Convocation Meeting at 3pm on the Saturday.
