Kathleen “Kitty” McGowan is a typical Florida na- tive as she was born in Pittsburgh, PA and moved to Fort Lauderdale with her family at the age of 5. “I was so fortunate that my family got involved with boating when I was young,” she said. “We would spend every weekend on the wa- ter (skiing, fishing, snorkeling) enjoying this amazing South Flor- ida lifestyle. It was a great way to spend time together as a family.” Kitty’s educational pursuits took her to the northern part of the state to Tallahassee, FL where she originally was enrolled as a musi- cal theater major at Florida State University. She says that her desire to be able to pay the elec- tric bill overrode her desire for the stage and she graduated with a bachelor of science in Communi- cations—Public Relations. Coming back to her “hometown” of Fort Lauderdale, she immedi- ately got a job in PR with Bro- ward General Medical Center. “It was a very challenging place to work,” McGowan said. “You never knew what to expect when you went to work.” This need for excitement and challenge pushed her to a wildly different career as a chef aboard yachts. “It was probably the most excit- ing, and exhausting time of my life,” she recalled. “I loved the opportunity to travel and ex- perience so many different places in the world. Thank God I was young, because I couldn’t keep up that kind of pace to- day.” She worked aboard such high profile yachts as Octo- pussy, Thunderball, Moon- raker, Mercedes and others. After seven years traveling the world, Kitty returned to the business world with a giant “hole” in her resume that Frank Herhold, Marine Industries Association of South Florida’s (MIASF) Executive Director felt was just what he was look- ing for. Kitty spent the next seven years working with the MIASF as the Director of Asso- ciation Services. “I quickly realized that working with peo- ple was what I really enjoyed doing most and the people in the marine industry were the best”! Kathleen “Kitty” McGowan is a typical Florida na-tive as she was born in Pittsburgh, PA and
moved to Fort Lauderdale with her family at the age of 5. “I was so fortunate that my family got involved with boating when I was young,” she said. “We would spend every weekend on the wa-ter (skiing, fishing, snorkeling) enjoying this amazing South Flor-ida lifestyle. It was a great way to spend time together as a family.” Kitty’s educational pursuits took her to the northern part of the state to Tallahassee, FL where she originally was enrolled as a musi-cal theater major at Florida State University. She says that her desire to be able to pay the elec-tric bill overrode her desire for the stage and she graduated with a bachelor of science in Communi-cations—Public Relations. Coming back to her “hometown” of Fort Lauderdale, she immedi-ately got a job in PR with Bro-ward General Medical Center. “It was a very challenging place to work,” McGowan said. “You never knew what to expect when
you went to work.” This need for excitement and challenge pushed her to a wildly different career as a chef aboard yachts. “It was probably the most excit-ing, and exhausting time of my life,” she recalled. “I loved the opportunity to travel and ex-perience so many different places in the world. Thank God I was young, because I couldn’t keep up that kind of pace to-day.” She worked aboard such high profile yachts as Octo-pussy, Thunderball, Moon-raker, Mercedes and others. After seven years traveling the world, Kitty returned to the business world with a giant “hole” in her resume that Frank Herhold, Marine Industries Association of South Florida’s (MIASF) Executive Director felt was just what he was look-ing for. Kitty spent the next seven years working with the MIASF as the Director of Asso-ciation Services. “I quickly realized that working with peo-ple was what I really enjoyed doing most and the people in the marine industry were the best”! Kathleen “Kitty” McGowan is a typical Florida na-tive as she was born in Pittsburgh, PA and
moved to Fort Lauderdale with her family at the age of 5. “I was so fortunate that my family got involved with boating when I was young,” she said. “We would spend every weekend on the wa-ter (skiing, fishing, snorkeling) enjoying this amazing South Flor-ida lifestyle. It was a great way to spend time together as a family.” Kitty’s educational pursuits took her to the northern part of the state to Tallahassee, FL where she originally was enrolled as a musi-cal theater major at Florida State University. She says that her desire to be able to pay the elec-tric bill overrode her desire for the stage and she graduated with a bachelor of science in Communi-cations—Public Relations. Coming back to her “hometown” of Fort Lauderdale, she immedi-ately got a job in PR with Bro-ward General Medical Center. “It was a very challenging place to work,” McGowan said. “You never knew what to expect when
you went to work.” This need for excitement and challenge pushed her to a wildly different career as a chef aboard yachts. “It was probably the most excit-ing, and exhausting time of my life,” she recalled. “I loved the opportunity to travel and ex-perience so many different places in the world. Thank God I was young, because I couldn’t keep up that kind of pace to-day.” She worked aboard such high profile yachts as Octo-pussy, Thunderball, Moon-raker, Mercedes and others. After seven years traveling the world, Kitty returned to the business world with a giant “hole” in her resume that Frank Herhold, Marine Industries Association of South Florida’s (MIASF) Executive Director felt was just what he was look-ing for. Kitty spent the next seven years working with the MIASF as the Director of Asso-ciation Services. “I quickly realized that working with peo-ple was what I really enjoyed doing most and the people in the marine industry were the best”! Kathleen “Kitty” McGowan is a typical Florida na-tive as she was born in Pittsburgh, PA and
moved to Fort Lauderdale with her family at the age of 5. “I was so fortunate that my family got involved with boating when I was young,” she said. “We would spend every weekend on the wa-ter (skiing, fishing, snorkeling) enjoying this amazing South Flor-ida lifestyle. It was a great way to spend time together as a family.” Kitty’s educational pursuits took her to the northern part of the state to Tallahassee, FL where she originally was enrolled as a musi-cal theater major at Florida State University. She says that her desire to be able to pay the elec-tric bill overrode her desire for the stage and she graduated with a bachelor of science in Communi-cations—Public Relations. Coming back to her “hometown” of Fort Lauderdale, she immedi-ately got a job in PR with Bro-ward General Medical Center. “It was a very challenging place to work,” McGowan said. “You never knew what to expect when
you went to work.” This need for excitement and challenge pushed her to a wildly different career as a chef aboard yachts. “It was probably the most excit-ing, and exhausting time of my life,” she recalled. “I loved the opportunity to travel and ex-perience so many different places in the world. Thank God I was young, because I couldn’t keep up that kind of pace to-day.” She worked aboard such high profile yachts as Octo-pussy, Thunderball, Moon-raker, Mercedes and others. After seven years traveling the world, Kitty returned to the business world with a giant “hole” in her resume that Frank Herhold, Marine Industries Association of South Florida’s (MIASF) Executive Director felt was just what he was look-ing for. Kitty spent the next seven years working with the MIASF as the Director of Asso-ciation Services. “I quickly realized that working with peo-ple was what I really enjoyed doing most and the people in the marine industry were the best”!
