SubaNews Letter ~ 3 ~ April 2013

Pres Report Number 6. Wow, that makes it half way there. Hi All Well, fresh out of a committee meeting and I know that you are all waiting with baited breath to find out what we discussed. Suckers! So, here is the follow-up info from the last Club Meeting:

The purchase of an EPIRB and/or Satellite Phone was researched and pricing wasn’t too

scary but it would still be a considerable outlay for the club. Further research will be needed

and the March 4WD show should give us an opportunity to check out all the competitors in

the one place. Hopefully we will be able to forward some more info for consideration at the

next Club Meeting. We also have a new club member who has first-hand knowledge of both

and we will definitely tap into his experiences before making any movement either way.

An order of stubby holders will be placed ASAP. The club plans to purchase 100 holders to

start with and we are hoping to have them available soon. Price is yet to be determined but

it will be kept as low as possible.

The spray jackets are still on hold awaiting info from the suppliers.

And please get those trip reports and pics into the Editorial Team ASAP. Although the

Newsletter is now electronic, it is still a big job and early entries to the Editorial Staff will

make their job just that bit easier.

Now to the new stuff:

Our Birthday party is closing fast and the committee would like to see if anyone has any

great ideas/suggestions for the event. Please bring your ideas to the next club meeting or

you can forward them to my NEW email address if you wish ‘[email protected]’. So far we

have the standard function format but it can be massaged into a bigger and better event.

The standard format is a BBQ get-together for the Saturday night, sleep over and the

detailing day on Sunday. BYO meats and alcoholic drinks are assumed and the club will put

on salad stuff and nibblies. Naturally there will be everyone’s favourite, the raffles. SO, over

to you all for some inspiration? I do however; have one little idea regarding the raffles which

I would like to float right now. Because bloody Gibbo always wins big at the Birthday

Parties, I was thinking of maybe accidently throwing his tickets from Rik’s part of the ticket

book into the bin, that way the rest of us folk might stand a chance at winning. LOL, if only

Rik could be corrupted.

Speaking of Rik, he specifically asked me to pass on a little teaser to you all. It is a

SPECIAL announcement to all those attending the Easter Weekend trip at Jondaryan

Woolshed. Rik will be running raffles, and he alluded that they would be “special”. For all

those fence sitters out there and those NOW swayed into attending, please ring Dave

Martin to confirm your travel details.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

SubaNews Letter ~ 4 ~ April 2013

The Property Officer is consistent in stating that “we have stuff” and that we do. Stickers,

shirts, recovery gear and more random stuff. Soon there will also be a fresh batch of stubby

holders to make your collection of Subie trinkets complete. And there are also a couple of

calendars left if you get in early. The property officer will also try and take a few limited

items on trips for those spontaneous purchases. This could consist of a few shirts, some

recovery gear and a few stubby holders when they arrive.

We are also trying to put together a camping trip to a 4WD park in April. There are 3 parks

in contention and we hope to have the details firmed-up by the next Club Meeting. DM will

also keep us updated via his emails so keep an eye out for those reminders.

Well, update done and as usual, I hope to see you all at the next Club Meeting and upcoming trips. Safe Travels

Peter Raymond George "Possum" Bourne (13 April 1956 – 30 April 2003)

This month April 2013, marks ten years since the tragic death of Possum Bourne a New Zealander and Subaru's long time number one rally driver. He won many events and championships including three Asian Pacific and seven straight Australian Rally Championships. He was critically injured in a recce accident when his Forester was hit by an oncoming Jeep in the ‘Race To The Sky’ event held near Queenstown in New Zealand. Days later in hospital his life support system was turned off. After an inquiry, the Jeep driver was charged with dangerous driving.

With more wet weather during February and early March doing more damage to some of the areas we use, the April Kenilworth rally has now been called off. To replace this trip we are going to Glendon 4WD Park west of Warwick on the 13th --14th April. We usually do one yearly trip to a pay 4WD park. Trip leader Shane Cramp was able get a Club discount. Glendon has some good grassy camping areas beside the creek and a good range of tracks that suit Subaru's. Hopefully we will have a dry Easter at the Jondaryan Woolshed. If you want to make a last minute decision and come there is still room, you will need to pay direct to the Woolshed. Also, you will see we have moved Inskip Pt to the October long weekend and for the June long weekend we are now off to Sundown N/P near Stanthorpe. So there is no reason to stay home, get out and about and enjoy our great outdoors. If you have an idea for a trip you would like to run please see me, so we can get it up and running.

Some more important dates to mark down are –

June 8th -- 10th Queens Birthday long weekend Sundown N/P Stanthorpe July 13th --14th ARC Imbil July 14th - RACQ Motorfest July 27th --28th Club's 34th Birthday and Detailing Day Sept 13th -- 15th WRC -- Coffs Harbour Sept 23rd – Annual General Meeting Oct 5th -- 7th - Labour Day long weekend – Inskip Pt Nov 16th --17th - Christmas Party -- Island Reach Imbil Dec 21st - Christmas BBQ and 2014 Calender pick up

SubaNews Letter ~ 12 ~ April 2013

Well as we're now at the hump point of our current year, I’d like to thank all our members (you know who you are) that keep consistently sending in reports, photos, jokes and the like to help us put the SubaNews together. The jokes are a blast, including the non published one's - one advantage of being the editor I guess. The photos as of late have been a bit slim, I’m thinking due to lack of trips we've been on, but if anyone has anything of interest please forward it on to us. We rely on your input to give the newsletter some content. My co-partner in crime (Marion/Maz) is now well on top of things which makes it easier for me to investigate other problems such as the coffee I’m supplying, tasting a bit off. I think I've found the problem. Please see attachment and turn the volume up on your PC.

No trips = no trip reports

The Lone Ranger and Tonto went camping in the desert. After they got their tent all set up, both men fell sound asleep.

Some hours later, Tonto wakes the Lone Ranger and says, 'Kemo Sabe, look towards sky, what you see? '

'The Lone Ranger replies, 'I see millions of stars.' What that tell you?' asked Tonto.

The Lone Ranger ponders for a minute then says, 'Astronomically speaking, it tells me there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets.

Astrologically, it tells me that Saturn is in Leo. Time wise, it appears to be approximately a quarter

past three in the morning. Theologically, the Lord is all-powerful and we are small and insignificant.

Meteorologically, it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What's it tell you, Tonto?'

"You dumber than buffalo shit. It means someone stole the tent.".

Cleaning Your Air Conditioner Air Filter Have you noticed your air con not working as well as it should, it also may have a dusty smell when it starts up. The problem is most probably a clogged up interior air con filter. All late models Subaru's now have these filters fitted. According to the Subaru maintenance service schedule, the filter should be changed every 12 months or 12,000 kilometres. Club member cars that do a lot of Club off road trips will notice that the filters will get dirty very quickly. Even cars that are only driven on the bitumen, will find that the filters can still get very dirty. To get to the filter you have to remove the glove box, there about 7 or 8 screws to undo (on a MY05 Forester) once you have removed the glove box, there is a cover to unclip above the round air con fan unit. Then you can slide the filter out (it has UP written on it so you cannot put it back, upside down) . The air filter is made of a nylon type material (it does not need to be replaced) it can be easily cleaned by brushing and tapping out and/or blowing out with compressed air. Then wash it out in soapy water, let dry and refit. Everything should now be back to normal. New filters cost over the $40 mark to replace, so cleaning out is a better option to try. VICKS VAPORUB

During a lecture on Essential Oils, it was explained how the foot soles can absorb oils. Their example: Put garlic on your feet and within 20 minutes you can 'taste' it.

Some of us have used Vicks VapoRub for years for everything from chapped lips to sore toes and many body parts in between. But I've never heard of this. And don't laugh, it works 100% of the time, although the scientists who discovered it aren't sure why. To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks VapoRub generously on the soles of your feet, cover with socks, and the heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition, it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly. I just happened to tune in A.M. Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good, due to the chemicals in them This method of using Vicks VapoRub on the soles of the feet was found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bed time. In addition it seems to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly. My wife tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her, coughing stopped in a few minutes. So she went from; every few seconds uncontrollable coughing, she slept cough-free for hours every night she used it.

If you have grandchildren, pass this on. If you end up sick, try it yourself and you will be amazed at how it works.

DON'T SHUN THIS ONE.. TRY IT THE NEXT TIME YOU GET A BAD COLD.

THE ONLY THING YOU CAN LOSE IS YOUR COUGH.
