Northminster Presbyterian Church Sarasota, FL April 2020 Holy Week is the oldest celebration in the life of the Christian Church. It consists of many services all de- signed to help us reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Holy Week services begin with Maundy Thursday, April 9, at 5:30. This year we are having a more tra- ditional Maundy Thursday service. I pray we will hear the call to com- munity and the command to love one another. I love the picture of the basin and the towel - the call to servanthood that Christ gives each of us. The call is to community! On Friday, April 10, at noon, we will have our Good Friday Service. This will be a simple service, in the darkness, to remind us that there was darkness on the face of the earth for three hours that day. Early Friday morning you can join me at the Sarasota Ministerial Associa- tion’s Stations of the Cross walk in downtown Sarasota. What a great day to begin this holy day! Saturday is a quiet day as we reflect on Jesus in the tomb. Then we come to Easter Sun- day. While the Resurrection is one of the central doctrines of our Christian faith, the resur- rection does not stand by itself. The resurrection would not have happened had it not been for Good Friday and the cross. The resurrection is the visible sign that the work of Christ was finished, and it is the declara- tion that God declares Jesus to be both Lord and Christ. He is risen! He is risen, indeed! The celebration of Easter morn- ing is to be a constant call to us to live and walk in newness of life! May we live and walk into that each day! In the Church Library As Easter approaches our thoughts naturally turn to the cross and our Lord, Jesus Christ. A quick scan of the NPC library shelves reveals more than a half dozen books with our Savior’s name in the title including: The Jesus I Never Knew, A Portrait of Jesus, First Words of Jesus, The Humor of Christ, and Jesus + Noth-ing = Everything. All of these titles, in addition to the book The Women of East-er, can be found in the non-fiction section under Dewey Decimal numbers 232 to 232.9. Also, a book titled The First Easter, written by the well-known Presbyteri-an minister, Peter Marshall, who served as Chaplain of the U.S. Senate, is located in the non-fiction section at “200 Mar.” May we all rejoice as we proclaim “He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!”
