Commodores Comments for April 2015

Ahoy Members,We have been singing, sailing and socializing our way through March and having a great time.At least I have. Hope you have too. In this Newsletter there are some photos of the singing and sailing just to remind you. The Intra-Lake racing has been bustling and some of the OSC sailors have been active and winning some trophies. I'm happy to hear that one of our newer members,Herb Moore, has crewed on one of the winning boats at the Shamrock Regatta so hope he iscatching the sailing obsession.

Our April calendar will be starting to play out here soon. Our Napkin Nominations will be passed around as our Buccaneer tradition has done in years past. This year, as last, it will be at Cody's Roadhouse in Ocala. I have seen the Evite RSVP's and it looks to be a good turnout and I am confident we will have good results on the napkins. We’ll see all you anxious volunteers there.

We seem to have all of our bases covered for the Lake Weir Invitational & 11th Annual HarpoonNationals. See the listing of elements and volunteers in the minutes of this newsletter to confirmyour participation. If we all pull together it will be a success.... we're a team. Of course, it won'tbe a success if nobody comes. So please start signing up for the event on regattaregistration.com site as soon as possible. It will be more encouraging for other sailors from other clubs to sign upwhen they see a healthy listing. We have talked it up at the Intra-Lake races and they will be checking out the site.

The OSC Caps have been ordered and will arrive in time for the our mid-month dinner meeting.14 members have pre-ordered caps so please be prepared to buy them on April 16th and we haveothers left over to sell at the regatta and for inventory for new members and such. Another bit of good news is that Steve Taylor, a friend of Skip Archibald's, has confirmed to volunteer to use his boat to set racing markers. It is good to have the lion's share of these details resolved before our dinner meeting on the 16th, because we will be having the election of officers on that same night.

Now that all the organizational details are behind us ..... lets go sailing! Our #6 Rum Race, the 3rd and final race of the spring series, is Saturday, April 11th at 11:30 AM at Sims' Beach. It is nevertoo late to join in. If you remember, the Gigantic Bottle of Rum is a drawing as long as you have paid your $5 entry fee. The placing results enhances your winning chances the higher your score is.It is friendly, informal racing, so launch those boats and join in the fun. Leave your boats overnight and do more practice sailing the next day, Sunday. Practice build prowess.See you at Cody's.Your short-timer Commodore,

Art
