The Great Courses
Thoughts that breathe...
Poet Thomas Gray de-
fined poetry as
“thoughts that breathe
and words that burn.”
While poetry may be
difficult to define, it is
very easy to listen to!
On Friday, April 21,
celebrate National Po-
etry Month and the
beauty of the spoken
word at a Poetry
Reading and open
mic featuring Karen
Lee Ramos. Karen
reads her fresh and
accessible poems with
spirit and vitality. Re-
freshments will be pro-
vided.
Read poetry and color
your way to relaxation
with Coloring Page
Poems, available at the
library during April.
Each page has a poem
along with an image to
color — choose from
Whitman, Longfellow,
Frost, Rosetti and oth-
ers. For grownups (and
everyone) who appreci-
ates a little smart fun!

courses produced for adult lifelong learners.
The courses are produced for enrichment purposes only — no sched-
ules, no homework...no exams! Each course features a notable in-
structor or expert from some of our country’s best universities and
institutions, including Georgetown, Johns Hopkins and New York Uni-
versity.
The library’s current collection includes such diverse subject catego-
ries as economics, fine arts, ancient and medieval history, literature,
cooking and religion. New additions include Writing Great Fiction;
Essentials of Tai Chi; The Science of Natural Healing; How to Draw;
and How to Stay Fit as You Age. Most courses include supplemental
guidebooks.

A Stropshire Lad II
by A. E. Housman
Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands about the woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide.
Now, of my three score years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It only leaves me fifty more.
And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.

Washington’s Soldiers in the American Revolution — who exactly were they ? What
inspired them to endure appalling hardships during the most critical time in American
history. Many different opinions have been offered over the years by historians about
the common foot soldiers, the “grunts,” “doughboys” and “GIs” of the Continental
Army.
Historian and author Robert A. Mayers unravels their lives, and offers a true image of
the Yankee Doodles. Bob has published many works on the revolutionary War, is an ac-
tive member of many historical societies, and has spoken at West Point and the Penta-
gon. His military experiences (as combat officer in the Navy and Marine Corps) provide
him with deep perspective of the campaigns and battles depicted in his works.
