Soar we now where Christ hath led, Alleluia! Following our exalted Head, Alleluia! Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia! Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia! I found myself tearing up at this verse of “Christ the Lord is Risen Today” as we sang it on Easter morning. Let me predict some of the reasons you would posit as to why I teared up on Easter:

Perhaps you’d guess that it was the beauty of our sanctuary. The brightness of the space, the paraments, the flowers lovingly donated, the cross covered in lilies…

Perhaps you’d guess that the power of the music caused the tears. The rousing voices of the choir, the stylings of Dennis at the keys, the melodies of those leading contemporary music, the well-rehearsed brass…

Perhaps you’d guess that it was gratitude for all of the extra hours put in by our staff sustaining us through lent and preparing us for Holy Week…

Perhaps you’d guess that it was wonder at the number of people who give of their time and energy stuffing bulletins, setting out snacks, organizing egg hunts, sending CD’s and the countless other tasks that happen behind the scenes…

Perhaps you’d guess the conversation and laughter that filled the gathering space before and after worship made me emotional…

Perhaps you’d guess it was the joy of looking out on a congregation of faces that were full of the joy of God’s spirit as we worshiped together…

And if this is the reason that you suspected as the cause of my verklemption, you’d be correct. But above all of that, as I sang I remembered why it is we worship, captured so beautifully in the historic words of Charles Wesley. This is the verse in which Charles so beautifully captures the way that our humanity and our eternity meet in the person of Jesus Christ, our risen Savior. We are gearing up to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the dedication of our Sanctuary. On Sunday, April 24, we will have one combined worship service at 10 a.m. Bishop Gregory Vaughn Palmer of the West Ohio Annual Conference will preach and lead us in the sharing of Holy Communion. We will also welcome the Confirmation Class into membership, be treated to gifts of music from the Chancel Choir and the Children’s Choirs, celebrate our rich history, and hear about our vision for the future. Following the service we will share in a light lunch in the fellowship hall. Please plan to join us for this exciting worship experience!

1. Caregiving is a job and respite is your earned right. Reward yourself with respite breaks often.

2. Watch out for signs of depression, and don’t delay in getting professional help when you need it.

3. When people offer to help, accept the offer and suggest specific things that they can do.

4. Educate yourself about your loved one’s condition and how to communicate effectively with doctors.

5. There is a difference between caring and doing. Be open to technologies and ideas that promote your loved one’s independence.

6. Trust your instincts. Most of the time they’ll lead you in the right direction.

7. Caregivers often to do a lot of lifting, pushing, and pulling. Be good to your back.

8. Grieve for your looses, and then allow yourself to dream new dreams.

9. Seek support from other caregivers. There is great strength in knowing you are not alone.

10. Stand up for your rights as a caregiver and a citizen.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 says:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ.

May we bless God as we serve and love one another.

Please keep in mind that this summary only reflects the programs that the Missions Committee directly oversees. Monday, April 11 – City Barbeque Day for Westerville Habitat Partnership. Enjoy a City Barbeque meal at the Westerville location (State & Schrock) any time that day, dine-in or carry-out, and they will donate 25% of your purchase to Westerville Habitat Partnership. Make sure you use the flyer attached to this newsletter or in your bulletin on April 10. Sunday, July 24, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. 4th Annual Tapestry of a Town, presented by Westerville Habitat Partnership. This year is special for us because Church of the Master will be one of sites on the tour!! That is exciting, but it also means that we’ll need extra help to showcase our church building. We’d like to hear from anyone who has knowledge of or memorabilia from the church’s earlier years. Please consider volunteering for 2 hours that day to help as tour guides and hosts here at church or as hosts at one of the other sites. We are also looking for musicians/artists to volunteer their time and talent at one of the sites. Last year we had more musicians from Church of the Master than from any other of the partnership churches, which just shows what a talented and generous church we are. To volunteer to help in these ways or for more information, please contact Norm or Frankie Exley. Tickets will still be only $10 and will be available in July. Save the date – July 24! So just what is Westerville Habitat Partnership? WHP was formed in 1991 and now includes 5 Westerville churches (Central College Presbyterian, Church of the Master, Church of the Messiah, First Presbyterian and Grace Lutheran) plus Columbus Academy. Our purpose is to financially assist Delaware County Habitat for Humanity through our fund raising events – Tapestry of a Town, Progressive Christmas Concert, and 2 City Barbeque Days. Donations are accepted any time. The part-nership is an example of what can be accomplished when churches work together to impact the community. Who qualifies for a Habitat home? Families are selected through a process that considers the family’s housing need, the ability to repay the loan, the family size, and their willingness to work for the house. How can you help? • Construction volunteers are needed. You would only need to attend a short orientation

meeting to begin building. The crews enjoy their time together but they need help – go to habitatdelawareco.org for information on volunteering.

• Become a Church of the Master representative on the Partnership board – it’s a fun group that meets monthly at Church of the Messiah to plan & organize the special events, but we could use more people. Contact Norm or Frankie Exley.

• Help with Tapestry of A Town – see above • Support and take part in the WHP events • Donate to or shop at the Delaware Habitat ReStore
