Dave bested Bobby Campagnale’s 879, which Bobby bowled just about two weeks ago. Now the question is, how long will this record stand? I think someone at Del Rosa Lanes will bowl 900! Will it be Dave, will it be Bobby, or will it be someone else? Keep tuned. This 800 was Wodka’s fifty-eighth, and the perfect games were numbers 86 and 87. Dave’s PBA numbers in- clude twenty-four 300s and fifteen 800s. He has a PBA national title and fourteen re- gional titles. Until now, I be- lieve Dave’s high series was a 878 (299 - 278 - 300) bowled at DEL ROSA LANES two years ago. Last time I checked, Dave was averaging 242 this season. Last season, Dave posted a Cit- rus Belt book average of 233. He is the reigning California State and Citrus Belt Associa- tion Masters Champion. Our thanks go to the BOWLING NEWS for supporting Citrus Belt bowlers. Dave Wodka Maybe the Time Has Come for a World Bowling Tour TEXAS—Timing is every- thing. If you are in the right place at the right time with the right idea, it increases your chances of success tenfold. Let’s hope that former USBC executive Kevin Dornberger and others have chosen the right time to roll out a very ambitious project – a profes- sional World Bowling Tour. A WBT is not really a new idea. It has been talked about for years by visionaries in the in- dustry like Joan Romeo, Gary Beck, Dornberger, and many others who have hopes and big dreams for bowling. Dorn- berger however, since leaving his job at USBC a year ago, has stepped up the efforts to make the WBT a reality. Dorn- berger is the president of the World Ten Pin Bowling As- sociation, an organization that works with more than 100 in- ternational federations to gov- ern and operate events outside the jurisdiction of the United States. Initially, with the coop- eration of the American PBA and a few federations, the first official WBT was launched this year with five events; the Ballmaster Open in Finland; the USBC Masters in Reno, Nevada; the Euro Challenge in France; the Kuwait Open, and the WBT Bangkok Open in Thailand. In early February, WTBA announced that two events were added – The US Open in New Jersey, and the Australian Masters in Sydney. Commenting on the Australian event was former Professional Women’s Bowling Tour star Cara Honeychurch, who is now the CEO of Tenpin Bowl- ing Australia, the equivalent of the USBC in the land down under. “It has been many years since Australia hosted a sig- nificant international tourna- ment to attract the sports fin- est athletes from around the world,” said Honeychurch. “The foundations were laid with the 2010 Masters, but now, with its inclusion into the 2011 WBT, we look for- ward to taking the tournament to the next level.” “Our goals were limited for this first year of the tour; but the response has been so enthusiastic that goals will be aggressively ramped up,” said Dornberger. To launch the tour, WTBA created a world ranking sys- tem to determine the best male and female players; and they started a bonus pool to provide a financial incentive for the highest ranked athletes. Work- ing with the PBA, they have now added a WBT Finals with a $40,000 prize fund featuring the top three men and women, to be televised in late 2011 on ESPN in the USA. Promoters are also starting to notice the potential; a sports consulting firm has told the WTBA that they believe it is possible to sell the 2012 WBT Final to a city / country for a significant host fee, and ensure television coverage. “There are several events that have advised me that they will be increasing their prize funds to be includ- ed in the 2012 World Bowling Tour,” said Dornberger. “We anticipate the 2012 WBT to include 12-15 events.” The challenge? Getting more American pros to participate. And the key to that will be significantially higher prize money. Right now, American pros occupy four of the top five spots in the men’s rank- ings, (if you count leader Mika Koivuniemi from Finland) and three of the top four spots on the women’s list, led by Caro- lyn Dorin-Ballard; but we just don’t see PBA players and former PWBA players lining up to get their passports right now. Our guess is that most of them are in the “wait and see” mode. If the 2012 WBT sched- ule is published later this year, with good money available, a few more American pros will sign up. Pros like Mika Koi- vuniemi have been an interna- tional star for years. He leads both the PBA and the WBT rankings right now. He moved his family to the USA so he would have the opportunity to make a living as a professional bowler. If the WBT takes off, he may go back to his previ- ous lifestyle of globetrotting to bowl. How will this affect the American PBA Tour? As far as scheduling goes, not at all, because the two organiza- tions are working together to avoid conflicts. But the long range affect is hard to predict. It is no secret that the PBA is struggling to make ends meet; and maybe a successful WBT might make American spon- sors and media outlets step up to become a part of something bigger. It certainly had that result in Tennis; why not in bowling? Putting on our own visionary hat for a minute, a few years from now, we can see a WBT with an American Swing; an Asian Swing; and a European Swing. It certainly could change the image of bowlers from blue collar to in- ternational traveler. Another challenge will be that the WBT provides a le- gitimate platform for women. by Jim Goodwin - Publisher Stars & Strikes continued on page 11

LAS VEGAS—The Orleans welcomed the Vegas Monday, March 28, to officially close out the 2010-2011 season and we thank Wayne and the personnel for their super hosting.

Doris Lewis was star performer this year with 214-626 topping the singles and many other places in doubles. Others on the honor roll , and among the winners in the more than $1,000.00 prize fund, were Sue McGill. Karen Mauricio 566, Dee Phipps 221-556, Pris Mauri-cio 555, Linda Kinney 200555, Kathy Parrish 199-548, Nancy Soto 534, Roberta McNaught and Vi Wilson had 511 clusters and Margo McClain, 199-501.

The chartered bus left Cal Bowl at 10 a.m. and it was a brand new one with a super driver named David. In fact, we had two Davids on board because Roberta’s hus-band was also on board.driver. We stopped at Ontario to pick up the McNaughts and Doris Lewis who brought yummy Krispy Kreme donuts on board to share with the gals..

The passengers enjoyed the usual shut-box play and bingo en-route to Vegas , plus the rest stop at Barstow’s McDonalds. We re-gret two of our regulars, Sue Bar-rington and Lu Colussi had to can-cel at the last moment and missed the annual trip.

The Fremont gave us bonus books this year with free meals, gambling tickets and other good-ies. Some of our people had great luck, but alas, some did not. David McNaught hit a 4-of-a-kind hand at the Let It Ride table and collect-ed a couple of thousand dollars.

Nan McGill had us on the lookout for 92-year old Pat Will-more because she had lost track of her among the oodles of slot machines. She finally turned up and explained she had gone to the Bingo Room and she was among many of our Vegas winners this year. Alas, Sue McGill’s machine at The Orleans failed her this year but she still had good luck with other machines, and in the table games.

One last item that brought a roar of laughs on the return trip home. Nancy Soto lost a shoe on the bus and was on her hands and knees searching the bus floor. When she reached David and Ro-berta’s row, Roberta yelled “What are doing between my husbands legs?”

In closing this final column, thanks again to all of you that made the past 53 years a Vegas league leadership a joy. I will be follow-ing your activities next season and wish you all good bowling in good health. Your new officers will con-duct a meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, July 18 in Cal Bowl’s conference room. Betty Phillips, secretary-treasuer, is already working on the travel schedule and dates and you may call her at (562) 597-5441 for other information. Also, Vi Wilson, president, has indicated the league may return to 16 teams next year.

NATIONAL DEAF BOWLING NEWSby Connie Marchione

DEAF PBA SENIOR BOWLER JIM THEYKEN SEEKS SPONSORSAN DIEGO—Deaf lefthander James Theyken who celebrated his 53 birthday few days ago

is seeking a sponsor on the PBA Senior tour. As one of only four deaf members of PBA, Theyken averages in the high 200s with career several 300s and a high career 823 series bowled in San Diego leagues.

Even though Theyken misses the sold out 2011 PBA Senior Tour opener April 17-24 Don Carter Open at Winter Gardens, Fla. and other two on Seniors Tour, he plans to enter in his first PBA Se-nior tour at Allentown, PA on May 21-24. There he will try his best to score high enough to attract a sponsor.

Prior to moving to California in early 1990s, Theyken bowled on an all deaf team sponsored by Bill Tucker in a top flight Detroit All Stars League. Although Tucker himself is not deaf and is famed for winning the 1961 BPAA All-Stars Tournament (now PBA US Open), the other deaf bowlers besides Theyken were PBA veteran Pete Kaczmarczyk and former PBA members James Lombardi and Gerald Blakeley.

At that time Tucker who owned a Pro Shop there, recognized the talents of the deaf bowlers and gave them the rare opportunity of bowling in the top flight leagues. These top-flight leagues are very hard for a talented deaf bowler to break in. Nowadays, only Kaczmarczyk is still there among the top 5 in Detroit top flight leagues.

Since a young deaf right-hander from Deer Park, NY Frank Gallo, Jr. broke the barrier as the first deaf member of PBA in 1972, many talented deaf and hearing-impaired bowlers joined PBA with hopes of winning a tournament and getting a sponsor to continue his career. At one time in a year there were 13 deaf and hearing impaired PBA members.

But most found the PBA tour tough and futile to handle and gave up after a year trial. Though Theyken did not do well in his first senior year and found it as a learning experience and willing to try again. Only Gallo, Jr. now of Jacksonville, Fla. still lives on making it on his own now as a super senior (over 60 years old) on the tour. Kaczmarczyk only bowls part time, picking the ones near his home. The fourth one is John Wukasch, Jr. Montgomery, TX, following the footsteps of his father Wukasch, Sr., trying to better himself in the PBA Southwest Region tour.

As for length of PBA membership Gallo, Jr. is closing on to his 40th year followed by Kac-zmarczyk, Southern Californian Darrell Stogryn now of Tucson, AZ who quit PBA after trying on the Senior tour and Leslie Bob Brame, Texas had been PBA member for 25 years. These who had been for 10 years were Robert Stock, Chicago and Theyken’s former teammate Blakeley of Detroit.

As for the latest deaf PBA member, Theyken, Lets hope that he does well in his debut on Senior Tour Mark Roth Allentown Open in May.

GARRETT CARTER WINS $230 ANGEL WEST DEAF CLASSIC AT AMF CARTER BOWLFULLERTON—Angel West Bowling Club held one of its Classics last Saturday at AMF Carter

Bowl and the surprise winner was a 127 average bowler from Murrieta, Garrett Carter. Bowling way over his average with 160-192-182 in his 3 games plus huge 291 handicap, Carter tallied 825 to easily won the $230 prize.

There were only 25 entries and 6 places prize list with Violet Greenspon, Murrieta placing 2nd with 776 for $115 and Emad Aranki, Covina 3rd with 770 for $85. The rest of 3 prizes were taken by Angel West bowlers, Daniel Corral 768 for 4th $60, Francisco Navarro 754 for 5th $40 and Kevin Pearson 751 for 6th $20.

The high scratch game $24 prize went to Ed Abakumoff with his 247 game. Garrett Carter also pocketed extra $24 for his high handicap 289 game.

Thanks to Bob Bergan who submitted the prize list with complete details. Hope there will be improvement for more entries in future classics.

YOMA TOPS DEAF TRAVEL WITH 849 AT BRUNSWICK COVINA LANES COVINA—So. Calif. Deaf Traveling League had one of its rare early bowling time at request of

Brunswick Covina Bowl and all bowlers showed up at the 12 Noon start. Pablo Yoma shot all twos, 201-214-213-221for 849 to lead the day’s short honor roll of 4 bowlers.

Ed Abakumoff followed with 822 from 225-216-187-194 to extend his league leading average over Yoma and Bob Jones who had 791 from 193-201-212-185. Jones’ league leading S. F. Valley teammate Bob Bergan hit 217-740. There is no change in team standings.

The league thanks the management of Brunswick Covina Bowl for their generous hosting of the day. With some of the league bowlers going to Las Vegas for the 75th anniversary Great Lakes Deaf Bowling Tournament, there will be a bye and resume bowling at regular time of 1 PM at Action Lanes in El Monte on April 17.

WEST COVINA—We returned to West Covina this past weekend and had a nice turnout of 187 entries in a our one day event. We saw a tough, but fair shot again this week that kept the cut scores low. They were +34 for the men and +22 for the women. The Super Seniors added to the board (2 men) were Lon-zell Burnett (+32) and Jack Trongale (+31). There were no Super Senior women added. That would give us 47 bowl-ers making it to the semi-finals this week.

Our top qualifier of the event was Robert Ricketts with a +115. For the women it was Ada Wong with a +81. Each will get a paid entry into a future regular ABTA event. Rickets drew for the Match Se-ries Pot and a lucky man from the Valley, Edward Rodriguez happily took home a nice $616 for his 429 series. He is well deserving. We estimate the Se-ries at $300 this week for only a $2.00 entry fee.

In the 3-6-9 qualifying, Chris Marquez and Bart San-chez but both miss on the 4th round, so they will split the $50 consolation. We will add an-other $100 at Keystone Lanes giving us a total of $2,000.

The Optional Doubles went to Jhun Tan and Gino Mansi-lungan with a 1380 for $130. Finishing second was James-cart Alarcio and Jhun Tan with 1373 for $110. We had a total

ABTA Returns to Keystone Lanes this weekend 2 daysSpecial Saturday squad times of 12, 2, 4 and 6 pm, Sunday at 10:15 am Finals 12:00 Noon

3-6-9 is $2,000 at Keystone Lanesof $960 paid out in doubles with low to cash of 1305.

In the semis, Wilson Ch-eung who bowled very well, would finish with the lead at a +83 to sit out and bowl for the title. In second place, Vic Paolucci finished with a +66 to sit out the first round and came in during the 2nd round. It took a +21 for the men and women to make the top 16.

Wilson Cheung the top seed had the honor of drawing the Match Game worth $1,090. He drew a 163. After a review of all the scores bowled, we had two who bowled that score and they were Antonio Johnson and Eddie Kath, each will get $545 dollars. We estimate the pot to be $1,200 at Keystone Lanes. This week we had sev-en new bowlers join us. Let us welcome these new bowlers to the club, Jo Jo Diaz, Scott Parker, Ricardo Baca, John Camisa, Alex Arguelles, Rol-lie Ebilane, and Tina Swatzell.

This would bring us to our Match Play finals. In the first round the seven losers were Fred Galvan, Victor Fa-bian, Tao Yang, Tina Swatzell, Chris Kelly, Bryan Moore, and Mary Robles. They received checks of $100 each. In the second round, the losers were Ada Wong, Carlos Umana, Pengsean Chea, and Holden Au. They received checks of $107.50 each. This would get us down to the final five bowl-ers. At this point, our horses

would be paying anywhere from a low of $46 (Vic Paoluc-ci) to a high of $110 (Michael Benavides) depending on who would win. In this round we saw JJ Soon (6th seed) bowl-ing Vic Paolucci (2nd seed). In this match, JJ would get the better of Vic with a 225 to 193 finish. In the other match we saw Greg Velarde (9th seed) bowling Michael Benavides (11th seed). In this match, Michael would get the bet-ter of Greg with a 213 to 212 finish. Greg and Vic finished in 4th and 5th getting checks for $115 each. Our semi-final match was all set, it would be bowled on Lanes 53 and 54 and pit our 6th seed against our 11th seed. In our horses this week we would see JJ paying $88 and Michael paying $110 if they win their match. In this match, JJ would finish with a 188/231 to 158/191. That would give JJ the victory and for those lucky “investors” that had JJ as a horse, he paid $88. Michael finished 3rd and received $205.

The title game was set and bowled on Lanes 51 and 52. This would be an exciting match as it went down to the 10th frame. Wilson would fin-ish first and set the stage as JJ had opens in the 8th and 9th frames to allow Wilson back in the match, with an strike and spare. All JJ needed to do to win was match him. JJ got the first strike but left the

1-2-4-7 on his second ball, he needed to get 4 to win, but only got three, thus tying the game. In the ABTA, we bowl a complete game again if there is a tie in the title match, so we got to see an overtime match. In the 2nd match, JJ and Wil-son would both struggle early but then found their bearings late in the match. However, it would be JJ that would come out on top this time with a 168/211 to 160/199 finish for his first ABTA Championship. JJ would take home $1,000 for the win, and an additional $1,700 in Cash and Carry. This would give him a total of $2,700 for his win. Wilson, who bowled so well, received $500 for 2nd place.

Champion JJ Soon is from Cerritos and used a Storm Ice drilled by Mike Wahl. He is single, and a student at Cerri-tos College. He would like to thank his parents, his whole family and special thanks to Mike for the drilling. Proud parents Jenito and Mayla ABTA Members are next. They are great people and if it took “being nice” to be the champion they would have many titles. Congrats to all.

Wilson Cheung (2nd Place) is from La Puente and used a Storm Reign drilled by Jimmy Wong. He is single with girl-friend Adrienne Mak, a pretty ABTA Member I might add! He would like to say thanks to the Mou-Liu bowlers and special thank you to Michael, Samson, Ryan, Tao, Christina, and those who cheered at West Covina.

Michael Benavides (3rd Place) is from Duarte and used a Storm Virtual Energy drilled at King Pin pro shop at West Covina Lanes. He is single with another Pretty ABTA member, Mary Huynh as his girlfriend. He would like to say thank you to his family and everyone who supported him.

The weekly ball winner courtesy of our sponsor 900 Global Ball was Scott Parker, he received the Profit ball. Each time you bowl, you get a free ticket for this prize giv-en away by our Sponsor, 900 Global. This week the raffle winner of a regular ABTA En-try was Andy Yu, a Memorial Entry was Ngheim Tran, and 1 night in Las Vegas was Carlos Umana. 2 nights in Las Vegas was William Garrett. Other re-sults are in the payoff column in this paper.

This week we will be at Keystone Lanes, squads times are changed this week, they are 12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm, and final squad at 6 pm on Satur-

TORRANCE – Here is another update from the JAT Farm Club, where our last tournament found us at Palos Verdes Bowl. This was our second Adult/Junior tournament of the season and this article will update you on those bowling in the handicap divi-sion. Seventeen teams took to the lanes and “claimed” their team average was under the 409 cap. The format: both team members – five games qualifying each, then five games Baker match-play, followed by the top four in a Baker TV-style roll-off. And the lanes and oil did their part and held up throughout the tournament with high scores showing up in every round. We also had a mix-ture of talents on both the adult side and the junior side, making this tournament and the end result pleasantly surprising. Overall, a very good tournament and we thank the staff and management of PV Bowl.

Reportable scoring in the qualifying round for the juniors found Kirk Chui leading all with his mix of 277-227-226-232. Other high games from the juniors came from Kendra Kale 243, Kaprice Booker 242, Adam Dubia 238, Kyle Duster 235, Bau-jee Harlan 235, Michael Ma 224-226, John Struckman 225-223, Gabrielle Mayfield 224, Marguerite Evans 222, and Luke Holley 220.

Now the adults in qualifying made their point that they’re not washed up and posted up the following reportable scores of their own. Tournament high game came from Marcus Battiest ending the round with a perfect 300 game. He also had a 223 and 228 earlier in the round. Congratulations Marcus. The big sets though came in from Joe Jimenez 243-236-258-247-279 and DeeRonn Booker 230-244-267-255-259. Whopping 252 and 251 averages respectively. Handicap division? Other highs came in from George Clemens 265-247-242, Steven Maida 265, Cheryl Robinson 256-231, Joshua Trajiri 246-222-255, Marc Sy 255, Paul Phounsavath 234-235, Jayson Fisher 225, and Tim Holley 220. And a quick note and thank you for our pacing team of Kevin Peterson (232) and Will Jackson (250). The cut of top eight, advancing for the next round came in at plus 162. The leading team was Booker/Booker at plus 316.

The match play round had quite a bit of position changing, as maybe the adults were getting tired? Now it’s one thing to shoot big on your own, but then to rely and keep pace with a partner to shoot high takes a special focus. Big games (over 230) came in from these teams: Phounsavath/Chui 258-233, Maida/Duster 233-257, Holley/Holley 256, Booker/Booker 237, and Jenea Cox/Ma 235. A lot of surprises coming up, so keep on reading.

For the finals and just like match-play, one-half of the team’s handicap was applied to the scratch score. However, this never became a factor in the three final matches. Therefore, I’ll just give the scratch scores and only mention the handicap when needed to give perspective of the team. So to start the finals, the 4th seeded team of Booker/Booker (+393) faced off with 3rd seed Phounsavath/Chui (+420). B & B took this match 248-182 and the right to meet the 2nd seed team. Holley/Holley (+433) kept their low-key demeanor and protected their position with a 234-182 win. Note that Holley/Holley had a full 45 pins handicap under the 90% of 409 structure. And if you think they were low-keyed, our top seed team of Dan Mayfield/Evans came in with 58 pin full handicap and quietly led at plus 567. Steady and true prevail here as well as Mayfield/Evans put away the Double-H team 230-201. This is Marguerite’s first title in only her second tournament. Also Dan now has a JAT title for the Mayfield household (sorry Gabby – I had to go there). Con-gratulations to our tournament winners and all of the bowlers for a great tournament.

Our next event is this Sunday at AMF Valley View Lanes in Garden Grove. We are back to a regular event with check-in at 8:15. I’ll be back next week reporting on the Farm Club, as we’ll have back to back tournaments, with Brunswick Vista Lanes the following week. Have a good week and I’ll see everyone on Sunday.

Palos Verdes Bowl – March 27, 2011 (L—R) Dan Mayfield and Marguerite Evans – 1st; Tim Holley and Luke Holley – 2nd.

LAKE FOREST—I promise to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me bowlers: It was the DARN 4 PIN in the first frame, of the last game, on lane 16, on a Wednes-day night, March 16, in the year of 2010, that kept the infamous PHIL NEWMAN from shooting a 300 game. He was bowling in the MEGA VEGAS 2011 LEAGUE on the team known as “Lor-rie & her Nutz” when the competition got heavy and Phil buckled down and shot a 290 game! Truth be told; if he had only shot a 252, his team would have lost the game.

GIL JAY MEN’S W2010: Don Capobianco scored an im-pressive 671 with games of 235-226 and 210, followed by other high games scored by Lou Johnson with 217, Larry Cullinane’s 206 and Bernie Gebler’s 200.

DORIS OZMENT W2010: Yoshiko Pitkin bowled the two highest games and the high series for the ladies this week 176-175/506. Yoshiko moved to the US from Japan in 1958. She still has family in Japan but thank goodness, they are all OK. Yoshiko is 78, has 3 children and 7 grand children. Second high game was shot by Loisanne Sage, a nice 182 game, and Eloise Boortz scored a 177 game and second high series of 477. It was a plea-sure watching these enthusiastic ladies bowl.

The energetic TUESDAY MIXERS 2010 was pleasantly sur-prised this week when it was Mary Rowan who shot the high game of the week with a 205 and a great 542 series. Sheri Tat-eyama also showed her talents with a 200 game and 504 series. For the Gents Walt Merriam scored like a pro with 201-200/579 followed by Bill Yamaguchi with 191/532,Tiden Cheng 189 and Larry Anderson 185-184/546.

In the HITS AND MISSES Brent Evans dazzled us with 257-222-248 for a whopping 727! Don Capobianco shot 684, Fe-lipe Oiague 683, Ken White 636, Drew Sebilian 610 and Howard Goldman 605. Ladies, Ladies, Ladies show your stuff! Sonia Sabado 549, Merly Croox 530 and Barbara Painter 510.

The lane pattern (which I won’t mention) presented a real chal-lenge this week in the SCRATCH CHALLENGE LEAGUE, but that’s what it’s all about, right? Only five guys hit games over 240 this week, those were Mike Belair 258, James Maloney 258, Keith Klagge 254, Jeff Carr 248 and Sam Hitchcock 246. The five that shot over a 630 series were Sam Hitchcock 693, Keith Klagge 691, Jeff Carr 669, David Lindsay 660 and Winston Arm-strong 631.

Highs for the ladies were Kimberly Martin 253/568, Nancy Moore 533 and Carole Reese 526.

THURSDAY MEGA VEGAS: “Top Guns” Joel Tatlong-hari 267- 234/ 683, Dan Fontanilla 265/660, Toby Sanford 246, Mike Hollowell 235/608, Chuck Anderson 223/ 644. Ladies highs; Tia chang 187-180/537, Regina Shiroma 187-180/534 and Lisa Kindsfather 203/531,

FUNSEEKERS are always having fun while looking for fun. No? Vincent Choi had the most fun by shooting the league high series of 606, Jim Wessling 549, Stephen and Janosik 515. Ladies having fun were Carol Beers when she stroked 214/586, Messody Wiser 502 and Liz Mahoney 488.

SVUSD 2011 None other than Dan Moreno led the scores with 257-232/680, then Howard Stephens impressed us all with 224-221-213/658. Stephen Robitaille was third high for the men with 219-219/623. The three highest ladies were Tish Witkin 458- Laura Blackie with 445 and Dianna Harrison with 430.

SLOTS OF FUN Oh My, but the gamblers had a “hay day” this week There were 26 games over 220 and 12 shooters over the 600 mark starting with Steve Zimmerman who shot well over 600 with a blazing 289-258-224 for a remarkable 771 ! Then Rob Piroozshad scored close to 700 with 248-242/684. David Cox did himself proud with 241-211-210/662. Richard Whitmark shot 660, Mike Deliberto 654, and Frank street 650. ***Side note; 6 bowlers shot 223 games. Ladies high scores were bowled by Gayle Vartanian 528, Janice Whitmark 525, Missy Manning 523, Donna Raidy 521 and Dianne Burdick 505.

DUTCH WELLS SENIOR SCRATCH Loved watching Don Capobianco shoot 237-233/665 and Larry Cucenella and John Ondejko tied with 568 each. High scores for the ladies were bowled by Joanie Cisneros 518, Juanita MacMorris 495 and Zeni Stallings 471.

The up dates on our junior league high scores will be contin-ued in their own little column this week. Sweepers is April 16 th and includes a scotch doubles with their parents, a pizza party and a talent show.

Forest Juniorsby Treesa

Our management, staff and junior coach, Chris Shiroma, wish to extend our heart felt gratitude to all our “Unique and Special Junior Bowlers” for participating in our Saturday morning Junior League. We especially want to thank all the parents who take time out of their busy schedules, to be with, and support their children’s efforts and accomplishments.

We personally think that we have the finest Junior Bowlers in America, right here at Forest Lanes.

The winter league is coming to an end and our sweepers event is scheduled for April 16 th.

We honestly believe that this event in comparable to none other, because it is an adult & Junior Scotch doubles and all kids invite their parents, to be their doubles partner. After this fun filled competition, there is a pizza party for everyone and league awards will be presented to the Juniors.

This year will be even more exciting because many talented kids have volunteered to participate in a “Talent Show” under the direction of volunteer father, Jeff Muscat.

We look forward to seeing all our Juniors and their parents on April 16th at 10 am. Cameras welcome.

All junior participants and accomplishments will be listed in our next weeks article.

** Our Summer Junior League will start Saturday April 23 rd, meeting at 9:30 AM, Bowling at 10 AM

*** We also have another special league for Adults and Ju-niors called the Marvel hero, starting on Sunday afternoons at 12 noon. It’s only $20 for a team of two which covers bowl-ing, rental shoes AND a spectacular Marvel Hero Bowling Ball (value over $100) for each Junior bowler at leagues end. Sign Ups are now being taken, so don’t miss out! Let the fun begin! Call Treesa at (949) 770-0055.

Howard/Glover Take Adult/Member #2TORRANCE—The JAT made their second trip of the sea-

son to Palos Verdes Bowl for the second of our Adult/Member Doubles event. 16 teams took to the lanes in the 410+ scratch division and the scores were off and running. Andrew Stewart excited the crowd in the second game with a perfect 300 while Danny Ontiveros was nearly perfect with a 289 and Jeremy Glover helped lead his team to the qualifying lead with a 279. After 5 games of doubles, Krischna Howard and Jeremy Glover led the pack at +402 followed by father-son teams of Alex and Brian Hernandez at +361, Harry and Cort McPherson at +300 and Scott and Brandon Kraye at +293. Low-to-qualify was Da-vid Brown and Daniel Updegraff at +160. In match-play, the tournament leaders Howard/Glover continued to pull away with a 5-0 match-play record and a +662 mark followed by the father-son Hernandez duo at +575 and the Krayes at +564. In the top-3 rolloffs, the Hernandez and the Kraye teams met up and Brian Hernandez came up big throwing some clutch strikes to tie the game and force a rolloff which they won to advance them to the title match. In the final, it was a wire-to-wire win as Krischna Howard and Jeremy Glover continued their dominance and took the title. Congratulations to Krischna and Jeremy on a great day of bowling!Special Prizes - April 17 – Brunswick Vista Bowl – Palmdale

When Will BOBBY CAMPAGNALE Bowl 900 ( After 879 ) ?

by Frank WeilerSAN BERNARDINO — Two weeks ago Bobby Campagnale

set a new DEL ROSA LANES record with an 879 (300 - 300 - 279), in the Elks Invitational League. The previous record (878) was bowled by DAVE WODKA two years ago.

Campagnale’s record didn’t last long though, just about two weeks, because Dave Wodka rolled 890 (300 - 290 - 300) last Wednesday. This is the second time Campagnale has started a league series with consecutive perfect games. In 2008, he scored 847 (300 - 300 - 247) at Del Rosa Lanes. Bobby may be the only Citrus Belt kegler to roll consecutive perfectos twice.

So my question is: WHEN WILL BOBBY CAMPAGNALE BOWL 900? He has knocked on the door twice now, and only a few single pins have kept him from being the second bowler to bowl 900 twice. I think it is just a matter of time before this two-hander rolls a “PERFECT SERIES,” what I call a “TRI-PER-FECTA.” It was a solid ten pin, in the seventh frame of game three, that denied Campagnale this time. Next time, there will be no ten pins denying him. At twenty-six years of age, Bobby has plenty of time to score a tri-perfecta.

Campagnale’s high series before this big night was 856 (278 - 278 - 300), rolled at Arrowhead Lanes in 2008. He has led the Citrus Belt in average the past two seasons, with a high of 243 two years ago. He also posted a 250 average for twenty-eight games that season. Campagnale used his Columbia World Beater for the 879. He wants to thank CORKY De MAIO for drilling the ball, and his teammate JAMES DIXON for his support. To date Bobby has twenty-six 800s and fifty-seven 300s, including a PBA 300. My thanks go out to SID GOLDING for providing in-formation about Citrus Belt bowlers, and the BOWLING NEWS for publishing the articles about our bowlers.

It is a shame that there has been no women’s pro tour since 2003. We hope that the WBT recog-nizes the potential of women’s events; that they will garner equal if not greater television ratings; and that the marketing of women will greatly enhance the image of the tour. We hope that they do not simply create a “women’s division” or a “wom-en’s series” with very limited players and prizes. With recent events in Japan, we may also see more pros like Wendy Macpher-son turning to the WBT for her bowling. Wendy has made good money in Japan since the Ameri-can women’s tour stopped in 2003. Here’s hoping that Japan gets back on its feet, and in a few years becomes a regular destination for the WBT. The World Bowling Tour is an am-bitious project to take bowling in the direction of Tennis and Golf; but with the planet getting smaller every day, it is inevitable that this would happen sooner or later. Now, it looks like it is on the horizon. Another thing we hope the WBT settles once and for all – the issue of amateur v. professional; but that is another column. “My gut tells me that the potential of the WBT is enor-mous,” said Dornberger. “We are actively discussing common me-dia platforms, sponsorships, and charitable partners for 2012 and beyond. I think the WBT will be successful because most of the players will feel that they can’t afford not to bowl.”
