Round Lake, IL 60073
April 24, 2016 5th Sunday of Easter
I want to take this opportunity to share a few updates on our parish.
St. Joseph Feast: All parishioners are invited to a special evening to celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph and to recognize volunteers from all ministries for their dedication and support. We hope that you will be able to show your support by attending this event which will take place at the Civic Center in Round Lake Beach. Event and raffle tickets are available for purchase at the rectory or after each mass. Dinner tickets are $30 per person and $10 for the raffle.
Parking Lot: A committee has been formed for the restoration of our parking lot. You will see the improvements in the coming weeks and I ask you to please be patient as traffic will be affected in different ways. We will inform you of the precautions to take. At the same time, I encourage you to continue to support the different parish fundraisers: “To Teach Who Christ Is,” “Summer Fest 2016,” and “Fiestas Patrias St. Joseph 2016.”
Phone System: We are upgrading to a phone system that will allow better communication with you. Some of the new features we are going to enjoy are: communication across our three main departments (Parish Office, Religious Education Program, and St. Joseph School), personal voice mails for each staff member, access to priests 24/7 for emergency anointing of the sick, among others. Please be patient as we may experience some inconveniences as we transition.
Staff: The coming months will be a time of goodbyes. In the first place, Deacon Elizarraras will be ending his time of service at our parish on May 1, 2016. Deacon Edson will share a few words with us at all the masses on May 1, 2016. We will have a farewell party for deacon Edson on May 1st at 3 p.m. in the Community Room. Deacon Edson will be ordained a priest on June 4th back home in Tucson, AZ.

Please join Music Director, Alexis McCormick, for children’s choir rehearsal on Saturdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. We will have a great time learning a variety of sacred music. Once we have a base of members, we will
sing at whichever Mass most of the children usually attend. Rehearsals will be in the school music classroom. Please enter through the gym (if open for Bingo) and turn right, or enter through the side door marked “CHOIR” to the right of the gym.
Due to her part time status, Alexis McCormick is only able to attend English Masses, so the Children’s Choir will be preparing English music at this time.
Adult Choirs Please join us for adult
choir rehearsals on Mondays or Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Rehearsals are held both evenings, but choir members only need to attend one per week.
Please enter through the side door marked “CHOIR” to the right of the gym. We use both the Misalette and the Glory and Praise hymnals. The choir members of all three English Masses rehearse at the same time. After each choir practice, there is a rehearsal from 7:30-8:00 for cantors and accompanists.
Due to her part time status, Alexis McCormick is only able to attend English Masses, so the adult choirs will be preparing English music at this time.

A Window into St. Joseph School From the Principal’s Desk
Boot Camp! Last week I mentioned Boot Camp. Are you
wondering what Boot Camp is and how it applies to St. Joseph School?
Boot Camp is a fairly new phrase used in education. It is a rigorous schedule of learning events. The format of the program is very structured and fast-paced. So what does it look like at St. Joseph?
During the first week of Summer Boot Camp, the students will concentrate on reading. The day will be filled with fluency drills, vocabulary games, reading, poetry, singing, and a wide variety of activities that focus on reading skills. There will be short brain breaks for learning a craft or physical exercises. Students will learn to transition between activities efficiently in order to maximize their learning time. Feeding our brain and body is also important, so we will have a short snack break and 30 minutes for lunch/recess.
The following week, we switch gears and focus on math. Students will be learning new games to increase their basic fact fluency. We will work on problem solving, math vocabulary, various games, and a variety of math skills. Boot campers will be armed with dice, dominoes, and a desire for learning. This week will also include the breaks to incorporate crafts and movement time.
The new school year will begin with 20 days of literacy Boot Camp activities that incorporate a camping theme.
If God is tugging at your heart about getting involved with Boot Camp, please contact the school office. Volunteers help with many different tasks. All volunteers must have completed the proper steps before assisting with child programs.
¡Campamento de Entrenamiento! La semana pasada mencione el Campamento de
Entrenamiento.
