THANKS FROM JUDY THANKS FROM JUDY

LLOVED the photos and a great memento of the workshop for me. Every single person in the class was fabulous. They all gave it their best shot and each and every painting produced I thought was worth framing. I had a really lovely time there with such enthusiastic artists. My special thanks too to Pam and George for pulling this off in such unpredictable times.

Artistic Monoprinting for Beginners Artistic Monoprinting for Beginners Often referred to as painterly printmaking, monotype is a type of print made by drawing or painting with ink on a smooth surface. The image is then transferred to paper using a press. Unlike other printmaking techniques the resulting image is a 'one off' that cannot be repeated. Best known for rich tones and spontaneous mark making, monotype is an easy to explore medium requiring no previous printmaking experience. In this two day workshop you will cover transfer or trace monotypes as well as additive and subtractive methods to produce richly toned monotypes. Peter McLean Peter McLean is a Queanbeyan based artist is a Queanbeyan based artist and master printmaker. He works in a wide variety of printmaking methods as well as drawing, artists books and ephemeral installation. He exhibits regularly, has undertaken a number of residencies and has extensive teaching experience including at ANU School of Art and Design, National Art School (Sydney), GOMA (Brisbane), Megalo Print Studio and Belconnen Arts Centre.

EEric ric Tyrie called in to QAS and stood on the footpath, pointing out things on the building, to people with him. When Eric came in, asked if he had knowledge of the place and that is when he said his grandmother had lived there. She and six children. He said she purchased the place and sold it at a profit which set her up for life. When she and the kids had to catch the train, the oldest child ran ahead and asked the stationmaster to hold the train till she and the younger children got there. The storeroom was a corrugated lean-to with a

window. No door. The lad who slept in it had to go outside and climb in through the window. Eric might be approachable if we asked him to address a gathering one day. I didn‘t ask if he was a local. Eric Tyrie, grandson of Ruby Oldfield Ruby Oldfield who lived in this building in 1931, visited the gallery. He gave his number for QAS to contact him for historical information, if requested. A very pleasant man, proud of his historical connections.

QAS can be reasonably sure now, of this subject at the Gallery.

Not sure, if anything is noted on the back of the painting. The ladies from Goodwin were definite as to the subject being Ollie Candish. The Goodwin staff enquired as to visiting hours. They would love to come back. Their outing was coffee next door and then to the gallery.

YOU OR A FRIEND COULD BE AN ART SPONSOR YOU OR A FRIEND COULD BE AN ART SPONSOR

MMEMBERS are asked to seek sponsorship as the coming year will be more demanding on QAS finances than

usual. We need to support the new Gallery and paint the main building inside and out. Sponsorship can come in many different ways, such as the naming rights for an Exhibition, naming a Media Section, QAS Calender month ad, Newsletter ad, and enter more works in Exhibitions. The bigger the pool the more awards for QAS members.

patiently waiting to apply. Please find an EOI form attached. You can send this to me or to [email protected]

A few of you have expressed interest in the July/August slots. The exhibitions run for 3 weeks typically but as a few of you have stated that you prefer a 2 week exhibition if 3 groups are put back to back to fill a 6 week slot, we may be able to accommo-date this. However it would require some negotiation and cannot be guaranteed. It acknowledges that many textile enthusiasts do not limit themselves to one technique and often create mixed media from diverse methods. Areas of interest include wearable art and jewellery, art quilting, embroidery, felting, millinery, book mak-ing and use of textile paints and pencils. The group of about 40 members run workshops and group activities where they share their knowledge or engage tutors to teach specialised techniques. ACTTAA holds an exhibition every second year and a wearable art fashion parade on the alternate year. These are accompanied by a rich and colourful textile bazaar where members sell their work at prices to suit all budgets. * The Queanbeyan Art Society will ―add another string to it‘s Bow‖ ―add another string to it‘s Bow‖ if it welcomes the ACT Textile Arts Association to stage their Exhibition in the QAS Gallery.
