MANAGER’S MESSAGEMake sure to stop by your Club on April 11, between noon and 2 PM or between 4 PM and 6 PM, to cast your ballot for the election of three new Board of Manager’s positions. Tom Cline and Jack Rehmann have again graciously agreed to run the ballot box. Other alternatives to voting at the Club are by absentee ballot or online.

Once the ballots close, the Club will hold its Annual Meeting. Cocktails and complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be served on the first floor starting at 5:30 PM, with the Annual Meeting starting at 6:30 PM on the second floor. After the Annual Meeting, dinner will be served for all that would like to stay for additional camaraderie and a great meal. If you are planning on attending the dinner, please make your reservation as soon as possible so that we know how many to plan for.

The Club just finished its fiscal year at the end of February with March 1st marking the beginning of the new fiscal year. Thank you to so many of you that support your Club on a regular basis. 2017 food and beverage sales were up a whopping 13% over 2016 and were the highest since 2008!

Membership growth and retention continues to be a focal point of the Board as well as the staff. Our membership numbers have stabilized over the past year which is very encouraging. In order to keep the Club viable, we need to continue bringing in new members to grow our membership base. Overall, the Club’s financial situation is looking better than it has in a long time.

See you at your Club!

SAGINAW CLUB FLASHBACKThank you to Saginaw Club member John Morey for providing the following SC Flashback! The War Years

HERBERT LEO ZIEGENBEIN Saginaw Club President 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945

CONSUMERS POWER BUILDING, SAGINAW, MICH.

H.L. ZIEGENBEIN 1898 - 1971

Next to the Bank of Saginaw was the Consumers Power building on Federal at Warren Streets. Along with its offices, the company featured display rooms for appliance demonstrations. A 1933 newspaper advertised the Miller Sunlite lamp, which could bring the same rich, sparkling ultra-violet rays of sunshine to the user. Consumers sold the lamp, which could bring health and pep to sun-bronzed bodies.

Ziegenbein was Division Manager of Consumers Power Company. He also served 4 terms as president of the Saginaw Club. His residence at 1104 N. Michigan Avenue is now part of the Saginaw Art Museum.
