Community Access
Connection Laura Beth’s Flower Arrangements
Community Access is a program
designed to help individuals build natural
friendships within the community by
participating in community groups and
gaining their greatest level of
independence in doing so. Laura Beth
was one of the first
to participate in our
new Community
Access Program. As
one who both loves
and is
knowledgeable
about flowers, Laura
Beth expressed
interest in
volunteering with
Friends with Flowers, a volunteer group
who repurposes donated flowers into
arrangements that are delivered to
Hospice patients throughout Scott
County.
Most Saturdays between
September and March, Laura Beth was
accompanied by a staff member of
Quest Farm to Friends with
Flowers. Together they learned the ins
and outs of the group, from putting
together arrangements to getting to
know the other ladies who volunteer.
Throughout this time, she grew in her
knowledge and
ability to not only
arrange flowers,
but her friendships
with the ladies
grew into a
supportive
atmosphere for
Laura Beth. As
she built natural
supports with the
women of Friends with Flowers, it is now
no longer necessary for a staff member
to participate in the activity alongside
her. Laura Beth has become a vital
member of Friends with Flowers and
found in them, a group in which she can
independently participate and contribute.

Handmade, Customizable Gifts New skills have served our participants well by developing marketable
skills and one of a kind products.
In order to make our products more appealing to members of our
community, we have recently started to personalize certain items.
These make great gifts for friends and family, graduating students, or
for any special occasion. Stop by our Day Training location in
downtown
Georgetown
soon to check
out all that is
available.
Napkin holders, decorative crosses,
and seasonal gift items are just a few of the
crafts that are created and sold by
individuals in our Day Training program each
week. Together, with the assistance with
staff, our participants research and create
unique items that are not only beautiful, but
artfully designed. By utilizing the training
and expertise of staff and the wood shop
resources at our disposal, we have
broadened the scope of our crafts as well as
the skill of our participants.

What’s your best

Top 5 ways to prepare Asparagus
Now that winter has
finally broken, and the
sunlight has returned, we are
eagerly anticipating the spring
harvest of asparagus. Last
year, after a very harsh winter,
our field yielded just over 200
pounds of asparagus that
was enjoyed throughout our
community. We are eagerly
anticipating a strong harvest
this year and look forward
to sharing it with our
community. In just a few
short weeks, asparagus will
be available to purchase at
our Day Training location in
downtown Georgetown!
All asparagus available
for purchased is grown and
picked from our farm
location. Come in and taste
the difference. You will love
our farm fresh asparagus.

1. Egg-cellent Asparagus Love a good omelet? Add steamed asparagus to
your omelet and top with feta cheese and watch
as your tastes buds jump for joy!
2. Crispy Grilled Coat your farm fresh asparagus with olive oil and
some rosemary and throw it on a the grill over
medium high heat.
3. Cheese & Crackers Take your favorite cracker, a slice of soft cheese
(like goat cheese, or a cheese spread) and add a
crisp asparagus head on top. Watch as your guests
delight in how this simple appetizer spruces up any
dinner.
4. Steamed to perfection Steam your asparagus for 2-4 minutes or until
tender-crisp. An easy quick side dish to add to any
meal that the whole family will love.
5. Stock up Did you know that you can eat the woody stems
too? While they are often to fibrous to eat in the
same way as the rest of the asparagus throw them
in your next soup. This will add great flavor and
great sources of nutrients to any soup. Plus you
can be pleased that you didn’t waste any food!
