Special thanks to all who, in their own way, made the Easter celebrations joyous. You may notice that churches are still decorated as we refuse to allow these circumstances to take away our Easter joy.

I am truly grateful to the “anonymous” parishioner who devised and prepared the “outdoor Stations of the Cross” at each site of our grouping.

Congratulations and blessings to Mary Schepis (SEAS) who recently celebrated her 100th birthday!

Because we have reduced the number of weekend masses from nine to two, we have many Mass intentions that will be rescheduled, when the regular schedule is permitted, to be honored. Also, there will be many “Memorial Masses“ scheduled for the souls of those who have died without funerals during this circumstance.

I again take the opportunity to thank you for your continuing financial support. The envelopes arrive daily! We hope to have a financial rundown for March soon. For the duration of this circumstance we will publish financial contribution summary of all three parishes at the end of the month. I remind you that donations can be made online through our parish website.

Without the regular healthy weekly influx of donations, some decisions have been made with regard to the staffing of the grouping. Some staff members are unable to work as their jobs require person to person contact. The “stay at home” rule also comes into play here. We are making use of the governmental “payroll protection program” to try to ensure that any staff members who are furloughed or reduced of hours, will be able to return to the previous reality.

“You, Christ, are the King of glory, the eternal Son of the Father. When you became man to set us free you did not spurn the Virgin’s womb. You overcame the sting of death, and opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers. You are seated at God’s right hand in glory. We believe that you will come, and be our judge. Come then, Lord, and help your people, bought with the price of your own blood, and bring us with your saints to glory everlasting.” (Te Deum)

Please participate in one of our online Masses on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.

Weekdays at 8:00 a.m. and Noon The Mass will also be repeated throughout the day for your convenience.

Please pray for the souls of the faithful departed. Colleen M. Bach

However, religious leaders are encouraged to find alternatives to in-person gatherings and to avoid endangering their congregants. Individuals should not gather in religious buildings or homes for services or celebrations until the stay at home order is lifted.” (PA.gov on “Stay at home” order)

With this in mind, and with every desire to adhere to the guidance: Today “Divine Mercy Sunday”, the priests and deacons will be stationed at each of the churches between 1:00-2:00 p.m. to bless with the Blessed Sacrament any cars that stop for this purpose. You are not permitted to leave your car. The churches will not be opened for visits. The minister will maintain the six-foot social distancing. All you need to do is pull-up and a Eucharistic blessing will be given to those in the vehicle. Following the blessing, participants are to immediately depart the property. Money memorials given for the Easter Flowers will be used for that purpose and for decorations when we return to regular community gathering for Mass.

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY Question: Where did the feast of Divine Mercy come from? Answer: If you were born well before the year 2000, you know the feast of Divine Mercy has not always been celebrated in the Church. In the early 1900s, a young Polish nun began receiving private revelations. Jesus appeared to her during her times of prayer, speaking a message of mercy and love for the world. She received a set of prayers — the Divine Mercy Chaplet — and the request to have a feast day established to remind the Church of the mercy of God. St. Faustina died in 1938, on the cusp of war and in the midst of one of the most violent centuries in the history of the world. Her story and her diaries began circulating in Poland and beyond. It quickly became apparent that this was a holy young woman, and the cause for her canonization opened. In the year 2000, she was canonized by the first-ever Polish pope, St. John Paul II. On her canonization day, he established the second Sunday of Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday, “a perennial invitation to the Christian world to face, with confidence in divine benevolence, the difficulties and trials that mankind will experience in the years to come.” ©LPi

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

1. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

2. Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

GLORIA

They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers. Awe came upon everyone, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their property and possessions

and divide them among all according to each one’s need. Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple area and to breaking bread in their homes. They ate their meals with exultation and sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

1. Give praise to the LORD, for he is good; his mercy endures forever. Let the house of Israel say, “His mercy endures forever.”

2. The LORD’s right hand has done mighty deeds; his right hand is exalted. I shall not die, I shall live and recount the deeds of the Lord.

3. The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. By the LORD has this been done, a marvel in our eyes.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM 118:1-2,16-17, 22-23

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you who by the power of God are safeguarded through faith, to a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the final time. In this you rejoice, although now for a little while you may have to suffer through various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious

than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Although you have not seen him you love him; even though you do not see him now yet believe in him, you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, as you attain the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

You believe in me, Thomas, because you have seen me, says the Lord; blessed are they who have not seen me, but still believe!

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.”

Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nailmarks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.” Thomas answered and said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” Now, Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples that are not written in this book. But these are written that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his

COMMUNION HYMN | O SONS AND DAUGHTERS

1. O sons and daughters, let us sing! The King of heav'n the glorious King, O'er death today rose triumphing. Alleluia! 2. That Easter morn, at break of day, the faithful women went their way to seek the tomb where Jesus lay. Alleluia! 3. An angel clad in white they see, who sat and spoke unto the three, “Your Lord has gone to Galilee.” Alleluia! 4. That night the apostles met in fear; amidst them came their Lord most dear, and said, “my peace be on all here.” Alleluia! 5. When Thomas first the tidings heard, how they had seen the risen Lord, he doubted the disciples' word. Alleluia! 6. “My wounded side, O Thomas, see; behold my hands, my feet,” said he, “Not faithless but believing be.” Alleluia! 7. No longer Thomas then denied, he saw the feet, the hands, the side; “You are my Lord and God,” he cried. Alleluia! 8. How blest are they who have not seen, and yet whose faith has constant been, for they eternal life shall win. Alleluia! 9. On this most holy day of days, to God your hearts and voices raise, in laud, and jubilee and praise. Alleluia!

ARING IVING ERVING

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS Awaiting Baptism for our Catechumens Our RCIA catechumens, by now, should be reasonably formed for living the Christian life. We can incorporate them into parish life the same way we involve the rest of our parishioners. With the help of their godparents and members of the parish, they should be encouraged to continue meditating on God’s word and be living as a Christian community in their domestic churches. They should be able to fully, consciously, and actively participate in the church’s worship through the Liturgy of the Word or the Liturgy of the Hours, and be a witness to their faith through acts of charity as much as they are able in these circumstances. (adapted from RCIA #75) While the sheltering in place directives last, we can continue to meet with our catechumens and parishioners online to break open the word and share faith. Once the quarantine is lifted, our catechumens are to continue in the life of the parish, especially Sunday Mass, as they approach their initiation in the future. We especially pray for these catechumens, who by necessity, patiently await their entrance into the Church.

On this Divine Mercy Sunday, in our time of pandemic, please remember in prayer all who are struggling with illness, depression, and anxiety; those who are alone; those who are grieving; those lacking security in food or shelter; those who are victims of abuse; and those who are living in doubt or darkness. This week, consider daily contemplation of one of the seven statements below that our Risen Lord revealed to Saint Faustina as recorded in Diary: Divine Mercy in My Soul.

“Proclaim that mercy is the greatest attribute of God. All the works of my hands are crowned with mercy.” (no. 301).

“You always console me when you pray for sinners. The prayer most pleasing to me is prayer for the conversion of sinners.” (no. 1397).

“There is no way to heaven except the way of the cross. I followed it first. You must learn that it is the shortest and surest way.” (no. 1487).

“My child, know that the greatest obstacles to holiness are discouragement and an exaggerated anxiety. These will deprive you of the ability to practice virtue. You should not become discouraged, but strive to make my love reign in place of your self-love. Have confidence, my child. Do not lose heart in coming for pardon, for I am always ready to forgive you.” (no. 1488).

“My child, life on earth is a struggle indeed; a great struggle for my kingdom. But fear not, because you are not alone. I am always supporting you, so lean on me as you struggle, fearing nothing.” (no. 1488).

“Speak, my beloved child, for I am always listening. I wait for you. What do you desire to say?” (no. 1489).

“Be always merciful as I am merciful. Love everyone out of love for me, even your greatest enemies, so that my mercy may be fully reflected in your heart.” (no. 1695).

Jesus, I trust in you!

A BIT

ABOUT

Lectio Divina has a lot to do with what we learn from the life of Mother Mary, who pondered, reflected, kept ‘all these things’ in her heart.

During this beautiful Easter Season, we are super-blessed with wonderful scripture readings that can lend themselves easily to this ‘reflecting’. Try this:

• Slow yourself down, take some deep breaths, and turn your attention to God

• Call to mind just a phrase from any of the recent readings, a couple of words that caught your attention.

• Prayerfully ponder that phrase in your mind, in your heart. What does it mean to you? Why did that particular phrase call to you? What does Jesus have to say to you about it? And what do you have to say back to him?

• Sit in the blessed quiet for a few more minutes

• Finish your prayer time with an Our Father, or a Glory Be, or a ‘Thank You, Lord!’

For more assistance with this type of prayer, feel free to contact Tess!

THE TOMB WAS EMPTY The empty tomb ... that’s what Evangelization is all about. That’s the impetus for our evangelization efforts. If we really believe that Jesus rose from the dead, and if we really understand that the whole reason behind his pitiful passion, and his merciless death, and his glorious resurrection was his unstoppable love for all of us, and his unalterable desire to have all of us be with him forever in eternity, then we’ll be impelled to share this Good News!

God brought Jesus out of the tomb. Jesus brought Lazarus out of the tomb. Who are you called to help out of whatever tomb they are in?

And he said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are! How slow of heart to believe all that the prophets spoke!

Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” —Luke 24: 25-26

PRAYER TO ST VINCENT DE PAUL

Fr. Jean Pierre Renouard, CM, a Vincentian scholar and researcher, composed this prayer to the Holy Trinity asking for the intercession of our patron to eliminate this epidemic that is invading the world.

O St. Vincent de Paul, our father and model, throughout your life you wished to imitate Jesus, the missionary and servant. In your time, you confronted the plague, the illness of the people. Intercede now with the Holy Trinity on behalf of all the nations on earth, visited by the modern scourge. Help the bodies and hearts of all victims. Strengthen caregivers, be close to all neighbors, and enlighten researchers. Walk with those approaching the portals of death.

As you gave strong and ardent advice to struggle against evil, so now come to our aid! Teach us how to expose our lives for the weakest among us, and strengthen us to help them better in fearless perseverance. With the sole desire of aiding them in their needs, open our spirits to God's infinite providence. Let us endow it with his total will for action. Inspire in us also, obedience to our leaders, as we now place ourselves in your hands, confident and fortified with genuine feelings of dedication and zeal for our sisters and brothers. AMEN

REMEMBER ST. VINCENT DE PAUL

People continue to call our help line and in the last four weeks we have helped our neighbors in need. Because of restrictions due to COVID-19 Vincentians cannot personally interview people to assess their needs; hence we've not assisted as many people as in a typical month. Nevertheless, the needs are still there and will be greater due to job layoffs, so your generosity is especially needed now.

Please notice that in your April envelope packet, many of you have received a special envelope for contributions to St. Vincent de Paul. It's a very challenging time and every organization is in need of money right now, but please remember that our St. Vincent de Paul Society helps people in need who are our neighbors- you may pass them on the street or stand in line next to them at the grocery store. If you can help, just mail your donation to your church; we are ONE St. Vincent de Paul organization within our three parish cluster.

If you are giving online, please make a one-time donation and note “St. Vincent de Paul Society” in the note. Visit CGScatholic.org

Parishioners are giving hope to all who see their homes by placing crosses in their windows. Join us! Display a cross, a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, or a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus! Illuminate it with an electric candle! We would love to see your window! Send a picture to [email protected]
