April 17, 2016 4th Sunday of Easter

The will of God is that every person is free of every oppression. Every form of sin is an oppression which Christ, though his resurrection, has conquered, and therefore, freedom is possible. Eternal life is the perfect state of freedom and truth. However, as long as we live under our own limitations, we get to struggle through what is true and what is not. But we are not alone; God gives us wisdom and guidance throughout our life. We find this wisdom and guidance in the scriptures, the tradition of the church, and the words of our spiritual fathers.

Jesus says in the Gospel this weekend: “My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand.” The stress of life and, again, our limitations, could make us wander away from the church or from God. And while this is a reason for discouragement, it is important to hold on to the promises that give us hope—no one can take us away from the hand of God. Even when we are away, God is still at work within us. If you have a family member, a friend or a neighbor who has left the faith or the Church, fear not! No one can take us away from God. Even in the dessert of life, God is transforming our hearts to make us live in freedom and truth.

I also want to take the opportunity to share a recent change. Some of you have noticed that there is more than one petition on the weekend masses. The liturgy committee discussed it, and it was decided to expand the number of petitions. The reason for this change is that St. Joseph Parish is a growing community. More and more parishioners are requesting intentions. We pray for God’s mercy which is shared with the whole church and not just with one person. We hope that these adjustments will not deter you from requesting a mass for yourself or a loved one. I encourage you to pray for your own intention as well as the others listed alongside.

Please stop by the rectory to request a mass for your intention.

Please join Music Director, Alexis McCormick, for children’s choir rehearsal on Saturdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. We will have a great time learning a variety of sacred music. Once we have a base of members, we will

sing at whichever Mass most of the children usually attend. Rehearsals will be in the school music classroom. Please enter through the gym (if open for Bingo) and turn right, or enter through the side door marked “CHOIR” to the right of the gym.

Due to her part time status, Alexis McCormick is only able to attend English Masses, so the Children’s Choir will be preparing English music at this time.

Adult Choirs Please join us for adult

choir rehearsals on Mondays or Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Rehearsals are held both evenings, but choir members only need to attend one per week.

Please enter through the side door marked “CHOIR” to the right of the gym. We use both the Misalette and the Glory and Praise hymnals. The choir members of all three English Masses rehearse at the same time. After each choir practice, there is a rehearsal from 7:30-8:00 for cantors and accompanists.

Due to her part time status, Alexis McCormick is only able to attend English Masses, so the adult choirs will be preparing English music at this time.

A Window into St. Joseph School From the Principal’s Desk

Thinking About the New Year! April and May are months that have the St. Joseph

School office hopping. We have our thoughts split between this year and the new approaching one. Every day is rewarding as we serve our families.

Thank you for your support of Premier Night. It

was a night filled with food, fellowship, and fundraising. Local businesses and families donated items to be used for the auction. Class aprons and projects also raised money to support our school budget and the needs of our students.

Planning is taking place for our annual Walk-A-

Thon, Imagination Day, and graduation. A team of teachers is also planning this year’s first

Summer Boot Camps for reading and math. Registration is still open to current and new

families. We are fortunate to have scholarship money still available for the 2016-2017 school year. School tours are available to view the classrooms in action. Stop by the school office or call us if you have any questions or to schedule a tour.

Schedules are being developed to deep clean the

school. We will be relocating some of our classrooms and updating some painting. The classrooms used require different types of paint. The color scheme will be appealing to students.

As you can see, there are so many tasks that need

our attention as we approach the end of the year. Please keep us in your prayers during this busy

time. You are in our prayers too.
