  • WELCOME

Westminster Presbyterian Church is a covenant family of believers called by God to fulfill His purposes here in Laurel, and as a staging ground for worldwide kingdom growth where we seek to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ – to fill the earth with disciples, subdue it redemptively for God’s glory, and worship Him joyfully. We are being redeemed and equipped by the Spirit to build up one another until the Lord returns.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic* church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

    PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION AND CHANGE

    CORPORATE CONFESSION OF SIN

O Lord, Who on this day entered the rebellious city
that later rejected You,
we confess that our wills are as rebellious as Jerusalem’s,
that our faith is often more show than substance,
that our hearts are in need of cleansing. We forget those things that make for peace, and we act as though You have not visited us.
Have mercy on us, Son of David, Savior of our lives.
Help us to lay at Your feet all that we have and all that we are, trusting You to forgive what is sinful, to heal what is broken, to welcome our praises, and to receive us as Your own. Amen.
(Hear now our silent and individual prayers of confession)

  • ASSURANCE OF PARDON AND THE LORDS PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. AMEN.

    HOLY COMMUNION

with Christ, my Savior and my God, with Christ, my Savior and my God.

  • Valerie Elliot Shepard was the only daughter born to missionary parents, Elisabeth and Jim Elliot. Her parents were missionaries to the Quichua Indians of the Amazon jungle. In January 1956, while attempting to reach the Waodani Indians (a primitive and savage stone-age tribe) with four other missionaries, Jim was speared to death. Valerie and her mother continued to live with the Quichuas and were miraculously invited

to live with the Waodani tribe that had killed Jim. Valerie’s mother along with another missionary, Rachel Saint, learned to speak the language and translated the story of Jesus to them.

Valerie has written two books, Pilipinto’s Happiness and very recently, Devotedly: The Personal Letters and Love Story of Jim and Elisabeth Elliot.

Please join us as Valerie Elliot Shepard tells the story of her parent’s missionary work and love story and her own endeavors as a pastor’s wife, mother of eight, she and her husband’s missionary work in Africa, and how they chose to live in God’s grace with joy.
