There were enough of us gone it would be good to include them in the newsletter for those who were unable to be present. These remarks are updated with current financial information as well as Administrative Council Summer Sunday Morning Structure times discussed Monday evening April 13, 2015. Still pondering Easter; a resurrected Body of Christ, be it the early church or a sacred space and place like CHUM, experiences ups and downs, times of thriving and times of surviving. We have survived a lot here within our community, and I believe we are on the rise. I also believe, as do many on our administrative teams, it is time to thrive rather than just survive. Here are a couple of bold steps we are going to make soon. One is the potluck we are going to have today. The idea came out of our finance committee. We want to have regular potluck dinners here at the church, a time of communion in the sense of feast and gathering, a time of community, (continued on page 4)

children, as well as how the rabbit became a part of the story. It was great to

see Irene Brown and her daughter! She is now living in El Dorado. We heard

Barbara Overstake was moving to a care home, so life changes for a lot of us.

We will be needing volunteers since the regular church school leadership is taking the summer months of June & July off. (continued from page 1) and, for those of us who are able, a time to drop a donation into a bucket that will go toward helping fund the ministries here at CHUM. However, the primary focus of the potluck is to deepen our sense of community and relationship. Even with a light attendance day we had a wonderful meal, conversation, and raised nearly $400.00. As you know we ended last year with a need to utilize a significant amount of our reserves. It is a concern, but I believe it is one we can and will overcome. As for our budget short fall in 2014, if we put last years ending finances on an individual basis, we have 300 givers in our congregation and if even half, 150 of our givers, each raised their contribution by $12.50 a week/$50.00 a month beginning this May, we would more than exceed our budget and be able to expand our ministry and outreach. I recognize there are those of us who cannot afford to give any more than we are currently giving, and those who could give much more than they are already giving. Perhaps there are already those us who have raised your giving over last year, TruDee and I have. All this being said, first quarter numbers look good, we needed $168,925.00 to meet our 2015 Budget through March 31 and we received $170,084.00. So, thank you for your generous gifts and investment in who we are as a community of faith. Another area of consideration is that of our Sunday morning structure regarding our worship services and Sunday school time. Included in the Newsletter a few weeks ago was the possibility of having two worship services on Sunday morning rather than three. I have heard this conversation has been going on for 10, 15, maybe even 20 years now. But we won’t know until we try. This summer let’s try two services, listen to feedback, invite input, tweak it as we go and then evaluate in the fall as to whether we want the change to remain or go back to three services. Monday, April 13, 2015 it was discussed at length by our Administrative Council Leadership to use the following time line: this summer beginning June 14, 2015, Early Traditional Service from 8:40 – 9:40am, Sunday School from 9:50 – 10:35am, and the Contemporary Service from 10:40 – 11:40am. These are just a few beginning ideas to help us begin again, to roll up our sleeves and keep the stone rolled away from the tomb, to truly BE the Risen, to be RISING thriving Body of Christ in the world around us. These are exhilarating times here at CHUM, may we be awake and present to the Spirit, immersed in newness and vision for our future. Thank you again for your commitment, passion, and love of CHUM.

Pastor Kent.
