April 12, Easter Sunday 3
Dear Parish Family,
Happy Easter! Rejoice for Christ is risen, He lives to die no more. I hope that you all were able to enter into
the mysteries of Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection through private prayer and participation in the papal
or diocesan liturgies. The penitential spirit of Lent has given way to a spirit of joy. Let us rejoice with the risen
Lord and the universal Church throughout this Easter season. Pray for me, I will pray for you.
God bless you,
Fr. Andrew
The Resurrection of the Lord is the “culminating truth of our faith in Christ, documented by the New
Testament, believed and lived as the central truth in the first Christian communities, transmitted by tradition
as something fundamental, unforgotten by true Christians, and, today, something made more profound,
studied, and preached, along with the Cross, as an essential part of the Paschal mystery” (John Paul II,
Audience of January 25th, 1989). It is for this reason that the Apostles are presented as “witnesses to the
Resurrection of Christ” (Acts 1:22) and they were chosen to give witness to the fact that Christ was risen. This
is very clear in the election of Judas’ replacement, which finally fell to Saint Matthias: Peter says that they
had to look for someone who had not only been their companion during the time when Jesus was teaching and
carrying out His ministry, but rather, and above all, this replacement had to be “a witness to His resurrection.”
The Resurrection is the culmination of Revelation. In this regard Saint Paul says something very strong: “If
Christ has not been raised, then empty (too) is our preaching; empty, too, your faith” (1 Cor 15:14). Our faith
would be in vain if Christ hadn’t resurrected, because He would have been just another man: a man with a lot
of wisdom, yes, but man nonetheless. It is clear that Saint Paul finds the foundation for the Christian faith in
the Resurrection, and in it, too, the key to the vault of the entire Christian life. Why? For the Apostles, this is
because, first and foremost, the Resurrection constituted the confirmation of everything that Christ Himself
had “done and taught”: the divine seal was placed upon His words and upon His life.
He Himself indicated this definitive sign of truth to His disciples. Thus, the Apostles will say, “He has been
raised just as He said” (Mt 28:6). With the Resurrection, Christ shows that He is God; He shows His divinity.
He had raised Lazarus, and the daughter of Jairus, showing His divinity, yes, but now He shows it even more
because He Himself comes back from the dead by His own power; in this way He places a seal of truth on
everything that He had said, done, and taught.
“The Resurrection,” says John Paul II, “confirms the truth of His very divinity… In the Resurrection, the fact
that “in Him dwells the whole fullness of the deity bodily” is revealed (Col 2:9)… Thus, the Resurrection
‘completes’ the manifestation of the content of the Incarnation. For this reason, we can say that it is also the
fullness of Revelation” (John Paul II, Audience of March 8th, 1989). The Incarnation is fully understood only
now, at the end; the whole of the life of Christ comes to show, little by little, the reason behind the Incarnation.
The Cross shows it too, but it is completed with His Resurrection.
Pro Life Those who die in God’s grace and friendship live forever with Christ. Heaven is no an abstract idea, but a
true and lasting relationship with God that is beyond all earthly description and understanding. We look
forward to the resurrection of the dead and everlasting life by preparing now, in hope, for our passage from
this life into eternal life.
Rosary Society
The Rosaries you pray this week will be for those mourning the loss of a loved one. May they find peace in the hope
of the Resurrection and Christ’s promise of eternal life.
