ver televisión, un esposo

le dijo a su esposa: "¡Hagamos algo realmente

emocionante esta noche!" Inmediatamente,

ella evocó imágenes de una noche en la ciudad. "¡Genial!",

dijo ella. "¿Qué vamos a hacer?". "Bueno", dijo el esposo,

"Intercambiemos nuestras sillas".

En una pequeña ciudad había un anciano que había vivido en la

misma casa por 50 años. Un día sorprendió a todos al mudarse

a la casa de al lado. Los reporteros de los periódicos locales le

preguntaron por qué se había mudado. Él respondió: "¡Supongo

que fue el gitano que llevo dentro!"

La mayoría de nosotros tiende a quedarse cerca de casa y vivir

en patrones de vida conocidos. A menudo se necesita mucho

para que cambiemos y sigamos adelante. Todos evitamos los

problemas y el dolor, los nuestros y los de otros. ¿Cuántos de 

nosotros seguimos alegremente las enseñanzas del Señor de que 

debemos visitar a los que están en la cárcel?   ¿Disfrutamos la 

oportunidad de conocer gente sin hogar, muy pobre o mental-

mente enferma?   Incluso en nuestras familias, tendemos a

evitar hablar de nuestros temores y nuestras penas. Hoy en día,

contamos con parques de atracciones, televisión por satélite,

eventos depor vos y redes sociales en nuestros teléfonos,

todo para distraernos de nuestra vida real; ¡no tenemos que

convivir con nuestras familias incluso cuando estamos todos

juntos! ¿Es así como Cristo nos llama a vivir?

El año 2018 celebra el 40º aniversario de nuestra diócesis. Nos

presenta una invitación a mirar hacia atrás, desde donde hemos

venido, y mirar hacia adelante, y visualizar los próximos 40 años,

tal vez llevándonos a lugares en que nunca hemos estado;

usando nuevos métodos para difundir el Evangelio, y sirviendo

como discípulos en nuevas formas significa vas. Tal vez en los

próximos 40 años, el 100% de nuestros feligreses habrán par-

ticipado en el Retiro de Renovación Parroquial. ¡Qué parroquia

seríamos! Cuando estuve en San Antonio en Upland, 450 de

las 1900 familias (23%) asis eron a este re ro y fui tes go de

cómo la gente cobró vida de nuevas maneras. La parroquia se

convirtió en una comunidad mucho más vibrante en Cristo, y lo

siguen siendo. ¡Imagínese lo que esto significaría para usted… 

y, para nuestra comunidad parroquial!

Hoy es el Domingo de Pascua y más personas vienen a la iglesia

en este día que en cualquier otro día del año. Para algunos, la

celebración de hoy marca el punto culminante del empo de

oración, penitencia y preparación que es la Cuaresma y que

comenzó hace 46 días con el Miércoles de Ceniza. Para otros,

la Pascua es una nueva invitación a cambiar de silla o dejar

que el gitano que llevan dentro comience a buscar una nueva

forma de vida. Hoy todos celebramos la Resurrección de Jesús

de entre los muertos; un día marcado con vida y esperanza

incluso en las noches más oscuras.

Encendamos nuestras linternas a la Alegría y la Paz que promete

la Pascua y crezcamos juntos. Felices Pascuas,

A er 35 years of watching

television, a husband said

to his wife, “Let’s do something really exci ng

tonight!” Instantly she conjured up visions of a night on the

town. “Great!” she said. “What shall we do?” “Well”, he said,

“Let’s switch our chairs.”

In a little town there was an old man who had lived in the same

house for 50 years. One day he surprised everyone by moving

into the house next door. Reporters from the local papers

asked him why had moved. He replied, “I guess it was the

gypsy in me!”

Most of us tend to stay close to home and live in familiar

pa erns of life. It o en takes a great deal to get us to change

and move on. We all avoid problems and pain, our own and

others. How many of us joyfully follow the Lord’s teaching 

that we should visit those who are in prison?   Do we enjoy  

the chance to meet people who are homeless, very poor,      

or mentally ill?   Even within our families, we tend to avoid

talking about our fears and our sorrows. Today, we have

amusement parks, satellite TV, spor ng events, and social

media on our phones - all to distract us from our real life;

we don’t have to interact with our families even when we

are all together! Is that how Christ calls us to live?

The year 2018 celebrates the 40th anniversary of our

diocese. It presents us with an invita on to look back

from where we have come and to look forward to

envision the next 40 years, perhaps taking us to places

we have never been; using new methods to spread the Gospel,

and serving as disciples in new meaningful ways. Maybe within

the next 40 years, 100% of our parishioners will have par ci-

pated in the Parish Renewal Weekend. What a parish we would

be! When I was the Pastoral Coordinator at St Anthony in

Upland, 450 out of 1900 families (23%) a ended a Renewal

Weekend, and, I witnessed how people came alive in new

ways. The parish became a much more vibrant community in

Christ, and they still are today. Imagine what this would mean 

for you…  and what it would mean for our parish community! 

Today is Easter and more people come to church on this day

than any other day of the year. For some, today’s celebra on

marks the climax of the Lenten season of prayer, penitence

and prepara on that begun 46 days ago on Ash Wednesday.

For others, Easter is a new invita on to switch chairs or to

let the gypsy within begin to look for a new way of living.

Today all of us celebrate Jesus’ Resurrec on from the dead;

a day marked with life and hope for even the darkest of nights.

Let us light our lanterns to the Joy and Peace that Easter

promises and grow together. Happy Easter,

origins. Nevertheless, Jesus chose St. Faus na

to highlight and renew this devo on at a crucial

moment - at a me when many people had lost

faith not just in God, but in mercy itself.

As we con nue our Easter celebra on and reflect on our

Lenten journey, we try to remember His promise that “the 

very depths of [His] tender mercy are open. [He] pour[s] out           

a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the 

fount of [His] mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and 

receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness             

of sins and punishment.”

in a bilingual celebra on of The Divine Mercy Sunday on

Sunday, April 8th at 2:00PM at the Olive Ave loca on.

There will be a procession and offering of red and white

flowers to Jesus followed by Adora on, The Divine Mercy

the many ways in which Christ’s mercy touches our lives.

Los estudiantes en su primer año de preparación sacramental de la Parroquia del Santo Nombre de Jesús y de la Academia del Sagrado Corazón se asociaron para decorar, ensamblar, y donar más de 150 bolsas de bocadillos para Youth Hope. Este proyecto les dio la oportunidad de conectar su experiencia de Primera Reconciliación con las prác cas de Cuaresma de oración, ayuno y limosnas, y dar esperanza a los adolescentes sin hogar en Redlands.

Holy Name of Jesus and Sacred Heart Academy Students in their First Year of sacrament prepara on partnered to deco‐rate, assemble, and donate over 150 snack bags for Youth Hope. This project gave them an opportunity to connect their experience of First Reconcilia on with the Lenten prac ces of prayer, fas ng, and almsgiving, giving hope to homeless teens in Redlands.
